hey Brian, would you mind sharing the original cube pics?![]()
For Jerry:
*man hugs you* Thank you!! :sohappy:
Hmmm the wagon is growing on me... *smacks self* NO... I must get the coupe. :lookaroun
Cool! Thanks Brian.
The Solstice coupe looks very nice, but I'm having trouble getting into it. I would have much preferred a true coupe to the targa.
And what were your in-person impressions of the Solstice coupe and 370Z? Do either look better/worse than they seem in photos?
How about the Camaro, Challenger and new Mustang (I'm assuming all were there). Any thoughts on those?
The Solstice Coupe, IMO, looks a little better. I hate saying that but it does. I love the styling of the new 370Z...but the lines work better on the Solstice. If I could take the front of the 370Z and meld it with the back of the Solstice, it would be great.
I really dislike the interior of the 370Z. It looks like SEMA and the aftermarket truck catalog from JC Whitney had a baby. It almost looks too rugged and mechanical for a car like the Z.
All that being said, it's a great improvement in styling (exteriorwise) and I'd still consider it over the Solstice just because of it's performance numbers.
Challenger: Leader in the musclecar category as far as "muscle-car looks" go. It's the "meanest" looking of the three and if it wasn't so heavy and the interior wasn't as lackluster as it is...I'd consider it over a Camaro.
Camaro: I wish they didn't bring a silver one. (And a V6 at that). Silver hides the lines of this car. I saw a yellow one at another car show and it looked A LOT better. I'm not crazy about the "Playstation-controller" center stack...but I love the retro cluster gauges in front of the stick...and I love the retro gauges. It's still lightyears ahead of Challenger and Mustang as far as "total packages" are concerned.
Mustang: I'll be honest, I wanted to be wrong about the Mustang. I wanted to see it in person and feel bad the way I've ripped it apart. I can't. They really screwed up here. I don't know if it's because it was a pre-production model or what...but it looked like a plastic kit car made from last year's Mustang. The interior is a heckuva lot nicer (even though they only thing they really changed were the materials.) I don't know how the taillights got through so many "design meetings" and ended up on this thing. It makes the car look even MORE like a "chick car" than it was before.
Overall, my top 3 cars of the show (and you'll notice the Camaro not even on the list)...that will start UNDER $100,000. LOL (No ZR-1...no AMG...no AM's...no Ferrari's...hehe).
1. BMW X6 (Wow did I love this thing. If I had the 68K laying around, it would be a no-brainer for me.)
2. CTS-V. (Yep, Jerry will be happy when he reads this.)
3. G37 Convertible.
Hehe, kinda sounds like a joke...
So, a Japanese, an American, and a German drive into a car show... hehe.
(Best concept: Saab 9X-Air)
Nicely done! Thanks.
I was wondering about the 370Z interior. The people on the Nissan boards seem to love it, but it didn't look that great to me. I guess maybe the 350 set a low bar.
So far, the "retro" gauges (like on the Camaro) haven't grown on me . . . but I haven't seen anything in person yet.
I really like the shape of the Challenger, but - like you say - it's just so HEAVY, I can't really see getting one.
Your comments on the X6 are interesting. I've heard some very negative comments on the styling from some BMW faithful, but it looks good to me.
I would never want anything that big, but if someone is considering an SUVish vehicle, I'd think it would be up there. Much better looking than the X5 IMHO.
I do. It's different, and I respect thatTell me that you REALLY don't like that thing?
The pics are actually on my sister's camera because I left mine at home...Hopefully I'll see her this weekend and can get them for you.
I am up in the air about something.
I don't know what to do...and here is my dilemma.
in April I will be in the market for a new vehicle. I have been following the Camaro for a long time and up until now...it's been a no-brainer for me.
The problem I'm having is that I want a convertible. Due to the economic crisis with the automakers, the convertible has been delayed (GM's website says it will be released Summer 2010 but they released a statement that it has been delayed with no real release date in sight yet.)
No real pricing for the convertible was ever released but I'm assuming that the model I wanted with the options would've run me about $40K MSRP.
As of right now...I am probably going to get the Coupe...and then trade up when the Convertible comes out but I really don't want a coupe. I love the styling but if I'm going to have a "fun" car...I want the sun on my skin.
So, after cruising the net looking...I realized that slightly used Corvettes (again, due to the bad economy)...are in reach.
I found an '07 with 9,000 miles on it for $36,995 (sticker). No, it's not a convertible either, but it does have the removable glass targa top. The cons with this is that it's only a 2-seater...where the Camaro is a 2+2. I don't have kids right now...but that's not saying that I don't see kids in the near future.
(Also, the winters in New England STINK...)
So, help me out...do I...
1. Just say screw it and get the Camaro Coupe (leased) and then get the convertible when the lease is up...
or...
2. Pick up the Corvette (not a lease...to own)(did I mention that I've always wanted to own a corvette since I laid my eyes on the C3?) around April...and then save up in the summer to buy a mid-90's Jeep to tool around in during the winter?
The Vette (with the amount I'd finance) would be basically the same/month (if not a tad less) than a leased brand new Camaro. (The problem is, whatever I save in monthly payments, I make up for in insurance).
Another thing is...with a used Vette, the majority of it's depreciation has happened...I'd lose a ton of money just driving the Camaro off of the lot.
Well, I test drove the Lancer Evo this past weekend. No way i can afford the 44k price tag. Since I need either AWD or 4WD, I know I am going to go with the Ralliart.
I like the Ralliart and WRX. And for some strange reason I'm not all that interested in the EVO or STi.
The top models just seem to go too far, but the mid-range models seem to have a nice balance without going overboard.
I'd take the Corvette over the Camaro no question, but that's just my taste.
Regarding winters, it's all about the tires. If you get the high-end Camaro, it will likely come with "performance" tires and you'll have to swap them out. The only concern there is that the Corvette does use some big-______ tires and it will probably be harder/more expensive to get an all-season or snow tire.
The kids issue is something you'll have to figure out for yourself.:lookaroun
