Wand coming down in the fall?

Well, one litmus test..

Marni, would you need a crane to work on SSE's air conditioning or air handler room? Where is it located?
There are mechanical equipment rooms on the 28, 52 and 90 ft levels - I`d guess they are here somewhere. There is nothing higher per se where this equipment could be. All ride and show. It does make you wonder if all the equipment was made small enough to be removed via the entry/exit tubes - the side hatches are at best doorframe sized. Incidentally, the side hatches were designed more to allow access to the gutter system for cleaning.

Also, on the roof above the rubber membrane and below the alculobond are at least 3 air venting units.

Nah. None of us wand haters would have a tombstone. We wouldn't want to leave a legacy. :lookaround

Nice to see no one is being rude today. However some of you folks need to work on your joke material, and come up with some new stuff. By the way I don't have a reliable source. That would imply that I have inside information. I do not. What I did say was the person posting this, on Laughingplace.com, is very creditable. This person has proven himself correct on things over time.

Reliable sources told me....

I also have heard that this fall, they will be putting a crane up next to spaceship earth to work on the A/C up near the top of the globe. They will then turn the crane right around and take down the wand.

Is there anywhere closer to the ground (at ground level or below) where the exchanger coils could be housed? If not I wonder if they just used numerous smaller evaporator coils instead of a few larger ones. That would make sense as they would be small enough to get in and out of the structure for routine maint/replacement and would also eliminate the need for huge ducts taking up a lot of space.

Notes...

That Star Tours refurb was also mentioned by the same source who said the wand will come down. Lee said Star Tours refurb is a go.. and I must say again..

Die wand, die!
Glad you did your research Merf, I knew you would. I would have brought up some other things that he has offered up, but I didn't feel like taking that kind of a beating. At least not today anyway.

hello im new and I was just wondering...isn't all the work everyone is speaking of for the new refurb? although i don't know if they are taking the wand down...i hope they are...but it would seem to me they would definitely finish they refurb before they did anything with that horrible wand.

I think there's been a misunderstanding. While the big Epcot is coming down, its simply being replaced by "Siemens" and the wand will stay.

This of course creates a dilemma for Disney in how to make sure everyone knows Epcot is a Disney park, so Mickey's 2nd arm will be going up on the opposite side of SSE floating a huge crystal ball that reads "Disney's Epcot Park"

:D

I can't wait to see what happens when the lights on the "i" and "s" burn out at the same time.

Sorry to bump this to the top again, but there are even more rumors that the wand is coming down during the SSE refurbishment. These come from the recently reliable Screamscape:

Screamscape sources tell us that when Spaceship Earth goes down for rehab there is also a plan to remove the giant magic wand from over the top of the sphere. This likely wont happen until towards the later end of the project when crowds are lighter and they can close off the pathway on that side of the ride. Of course that would also coincide with the peak of hurricane season.

Several other WDW rumors were posted today on Screamscape.

I enjoy reading Screamscape for rumors, but it's no secret that most of the updates end up being only rumors.

HOWEVER, it is very good that at least this story is picking up steam from various places around the net. Let's hope there is actually something to THIS rumor.
