Wand coming down in the fall?

I'm not sure what to think because it's become such a fanboy fantasy that I pretty much instantly write it off every time I hear anything about it. But if it's all just a rumor, then I do have to wonder what happened this time around to convince so many people otherwise. This isn't just coming from one source.

Perhaps it's the runaway success of The Secret that's causing people to apply the "law of attraction" in order to effect reality through sheer will power.

Now lets all visualise the wand coming down...

Just read through the rumors floating around about this on all of the other WDW sites...

Apparently the initial source of this rumor claims that the wand will be removed for Epcot's 25th celebration, returning SSE to it's former state. This goes on to say that WDW usually alters the park icons like the wand for millenium and castle decorations for marketing the celebrations they have. Since the wand is already there removing it would create something to market for Epcots 25th celebration.

Ummmm... wouldn't marketing something like this require Disney to actually confirm that it is true??? They are going to remove the wand for a marketing ploy but they are going to keep it secret.

I'm going to chalk all of this up to people's overactive imaginations and fantasies of a wandless SSE until someone posts pics of it actually being removed.

Well, the usually-reliable source I got the info from on Micechat and LP didn't say that. Just said the Siemens never liked it and that they want the work to be finished by the end of the rehab.

Who said they were doing it to celebrate the park's anniversary?

who said there was a celebration for the park's anniversary? Someone should tell the folks working on the SSE rehab project...

And Lee just said (for the second time) that Siemens didn't care either way.

Funny how we have very knowledgeable people on this site such as Corrus and Lee who have an inside scoop on things that go on at WDW, and they state specific facts surrounding rumors such as this to squash any misinformation. Yet people continue to argue about these situation based on their personal idea of what they think the truth is, despite what has already been said. :brick:  :brick:

They didn't care if it stayed or not. That what I heard.
It is true that they want the refurb to finish all at once, not have the inside reopen while there is annoying, distracting work happening on the exterior. Maybe that is what he meant.

Just reporting what the other guy said. You and I don't know which person has the correct info.

Hey, I'm just telling you what another source who "has an inside scoop" and has proved very reliable said. I don't know who's got the correct info this time, but my response was to someone claiming that the main source for the info was saying the wand was coming down to celebrate the park's anniversary thus discrediting the info. As far as I've seen, that's not true.

But, hey, just go on only reading one source of rumours and have a blast.

it's definitely been that way for several years. I wanna say the wand was removed within a couple years of the Millennium Celebration ending. This is a circa 2002 map with Wand:
epcot-map.gif

By 2003, we see Mission: SPACE has appeared and no Wand:
epcotmaplarge.jpg

What is wonders of life ?
And on top of that where is soarin and Why isn't Nemo and friends labeled....lol:ROFLOL: Just Kidding I know what these places are and why they are missing....

I was bored last night and did a web search for "epcot wand".

Read a ton of posts on the subject from all kinds of Disney boards and found that was the funniest post by any of the "reliable sources".

My bottom line is this - I will believe that the wand is going to be removed when WDW confirms it...

or Merf posts the link to the comptroller site for the notice of commencement...

Fair enough. It is all speculation mixed with wishful thinking to a large extent, but if we can dream it then we can do it, right?

If it doesn't end up coming down by the end of the refurb, I propose getting a group together to pull it down using ropes a la the Saddam statue in Baghdad. Then we can spend the next few hours hitting it with our shoes.

I know I'm new here, but I find this to be one of the oddest posts I've read in a while. Are you suggesting that, because Corrus or Lee stated something, that it's a confirmed fact? They have their contacts inside the Disney organization, just as other people do. And sometimes some people within the company don't have all of the definitive information. To suggest that everyone needs to quiet down and not express opinions because Corrus & Lee have made a proclamation is just silly.

Sorry, Corrus & Lee - I have no idea who you are, and I don't mean to offend. I just find it unusual for someone to want everyone to have total faith in only one source, and just cover the ears and go LA LA LA LA LA when other information comes to light.

What web site did you get this initial source for the rumor off of? When I started this thread I made it perfectly clear that the person stating this was on Laughing Place.com. Maybe I missed something, but I don't remember him saying anything about it being removed in celebration of Epcot's 25th anniversary. Am I just missing something in your post or did I interpret it wrong. I believe Lee has already said that Spirit is reliable, not that he was right or wrong, so that should clear that up. Lee has been clear from the start that he was on the sidelines.
Everyone knows that things can change at the drop of a hat at Disney, and they are not known for broadcasting their decisions. It seems like the only time they speak up is when they have something to market. Removing the Wand or refurbishing SSE will not get a commercial made about it. The only people that it really effects immediately are repeat visitors, and Disney Geeks. Thousands of people will look at SSE this time next year, and not even know there was a Wand there. Many people will look up, and be sad that it's gone, many will be happy. I just hope they find a spot where they can put it. I think it was a marvel in it's own way. I am very pleased that this thread never got nasty, I can think of only three inappropriate post. That's not very many out of over 200, especially when it's such a hot topic like the Wand. I don't blame anybody for being skeptical, and taking a wait, and see stance. I only thought it would be a good topic once again because of Spirit being so reliable with what he saids, and the importance so many people put on the Wand.

They've been right a lot more than they've been wrong.

So if you have Lee or Corrus saying one thing, and some other 'source' contradicting it, Lee and Corrus are more likely to be trusted, at least around here.

First, all I have said recently concerning the wand is that I have been told that Siemens had no real opinion or say one way or the other. I was told that from a reliable source at WDW, in person, last week.

Now...is it coming down? Maybe. I'm pretty sure one way, but due to the nature of the information, and who gave it to me, I need to stay quiet for a bit longer. I'll just sit quietly over here in the corner and watch how it plays out.
I thought I was the only one in that corner... :lookaroun

Just to be clear....
NEVER once in this thread, or in the last couple weeks for that matter, have I said the wand wasn't coming down.
As I said in my first post in this thread, I was at Epcot last week and picked up some wand info which I was asked to sit on. That's it.

Nothing I have said at this point is contradictory to Spirit's info over at LP. As I indicated in an earlier post, from what I have read of his stuff over there, he has the goods.

I was talking about 'in general' not in this particular instance.
