Wand coming down in the fall?

I'm sure the alucobond was not drilled through...the spaces between panels would seem wide enough to have the stars attached pretty sturdily. And if we buy that Disney originally intended for the Wand and Friends to be temporary, I can't imagine they'd drill through the outer shell of SSE (which couldn't be so easily fixed if something went wrong) if they didn't have to.

A question from those in the know... did they have to drill through the alucobond triangles to put in those few stars that are actually on the geosphere? If so, there are gonna be some holes to patch. :lookaroun

Actually, they would probably just take some of the panels from the fake Sphere in China....

I feel dumb -- silly me was thinking China pavilion in EPCOT, rather than that fake park.

I was hoping they had done the stars in the grooves between the panels, but I've never been able to get a good enough look.

It`s the inner shell I`d be worried about; the Alucobond layer is held on average 3ft from the inner, waterproof membrane - it is this you don`t want to drill through! As mentioned earlier, the tiles have gaps between each of them (each tile is infact 4 triangles) so I`d imagine the bits of wand fallout was attached to the supporting struts on the tile interiors.

I really see nothing wrong with the wand...it adds a touch of magic to sse. There is really no reason to take it down, maybe update the red sparkles on it and add some night time lighting effects, it could be even better!
Unfortunately there are always winners, and losers in issues like this. When the Wand does come down I'm sure all the people who liked it will miss it. That's just one of those things that can't be helped. I'm also sure shortly after it comes down we will see some "I Miss The Wand" threads pop up from time to time. It definitely was both a unique, and controversial structure in it's life span. I would really be interested in how many people think SSE looks incomplete once the Wand is taken down. Remember there are folks out there that have never been to Epcot without the Wand. I just really hope they find a spot for it. If you can remove your emotions, the Wand is realy A structual piece of art, and absolutely one of the most stunning scuptures at night, that you can find anywhere.

Regardless, it pales in comparison to SSE changing colors at night. I miss that light cycle - and I think most people will agree it's better then the static amber/lavender ball with wand.

I vote that they use the Pani projectors that they tested out on Sleeping Beauty Castle for the 50th. SSE would look cool with a couple of those things working on it. :D

I think you'll be surprised

A lot of the people on here who like the wand were in favor of any and all changes, no matter what they were. And part of their love of the wand is partially to spite people who don't like it. So they would be incredibly hypocritical if they complained about that "change" if it does happen. Granted there are some folk who just like the wand for what it is and that's fine. Personally, I think SSE looks a thousand times better without it. Hopefully it will come down sometime in my lifetime. It isn't the worst thing that could happen to the parks if it does stay up forever though.

Come to think of it...

If they'll just give me a circuit schedule I'll get up there and run the lights myself. I'll even sit there at night and push the "Go" button for a few hours after the park closes if they want me just to use equipment I can beg/borrow/steal.

If you can just hang on for a few more months you will see exactly that happen.

They should string a couple thousand feet of fiber optic cable around the geosphere and have the entire structure itself glitter and glow.:lookaroun

On a more serious note, a crane has yet to be ordered to EPCOT.

I honestly would miss the wand if it came down but I wouldn't mind it to come down. I can see where most people hate it but I really like seeing it I dont know why

That's true, and a great reason to move the wand where it can still be seen(Like from the Monorail)but not distracting from the visual symbol of SSE.
