As I understand it, it's the size not the type of plastic. They slip right through the machinery. Maybe if they made the straws as big as bottles it would work ... but then why not just buy a bottle?

No. I forgo straws if they are the paper ones. It’s tough for little kids though.

Do you really think its realistic to walk around a theme park with an open cup?!? Unless you are finishing it right there its impossible. Between people using strollers going on rides etc.

Maybe the new AI task force will program a straw dispensing and lid-handing-outing robot stationed behind the counter that we can ask. It can scan your magic band with it's robot eyeballs each time to make sure you get one per day per guest, up to 4 guest in your party.
You can ask for a lid at the counter and they will give it to you.
I mean seriously. I'll respect what they're trying to do if they include changes that cost them revenue rather than just things that (shocker) save them money.

I Think it has more to do with Disney pretending that they are doing it for the environment. If they were actually making an environmental effort, people might be annoyed but they'd probably understand.
Your post was about walking around without a lid. That's what I answered. Otherwise.

Fair enough. I think my feelings on the matter stem in large part from my being British. In the UK (at least when and where I grew up), straws came pretty much only with those juice drinks in cartons and at McDonald’s. Otherwise, you just drank your drink straight from the glass or cup, even as a child.

I really was just teasing you.
I mean, there are good reasons to use a straw (certain kinds of drinks, dental stuff, staff that hand you your cup holding the lip of it, etc.) but for the most part, it's kind of the way we were raised when drinking out (like a restaurant) and nobody thinks about why.
In the case of the parks, cups without lids means easier spills and messes and without any sort of containment, ice melted outside faster but they probably could have moved to some natural material lid with a little spout like some coffee shops use if they were really trying to avoid the straw for environmental reasons.

I’ve done it with blue and green milk multiple times and not had any issues. The cups they come in are small and sturdy, however.

Don’t get me started on ice! I’ll never understand why Americans are content to pay for a soft drink and receive less than half their money’s worth.
