Universal announces yet another major attraction, Disney taking a nap

I never said WDI wasn't working on other projects, just that a big percentage of their manhours are being directed to DCA's phase 1. As that project winds down they will be able to direct attention to WDW in a more comprehensive way. Stay tuned.

But wouldn't that take us out to 2012 as Cars Land goes into testing mode and prep for opening? By that time WDI would be pulling personnel and resources out of the phased DCA makeover, but that's still three years away and Magic Kingdom needed a new E Ticket and a lot of TLC two years ago.

Little Mermaid E-Ticket construction has begun last month at DCA with construction walls up and bulldozers moving in, but still not a peep about a clone for WDW.

Magic Kingdom needs to see Anaheim-style construction walls like this ASAP in my opinion... http://darkbeer.smugmug.com/gallery/8368351_Ea6oS#549006829_fEe7J-A-LB (Photo taken last week)

I guess the point I was trying to make is, that overall, new additions to Universal Studio's and SeaWorld will make occupancy rates go up in the Disney Resorts.

I would highly doubt that. There are many high quality resorts that are closer to Universal than the Disney resorts. One of which is the Nickelodien Hotel which will probably bring in more families.

There are phases to these type projects. For instance the experts who create blue prints will be finished far before DCA's phase 1 is complete. For all we know Carsland has cleared the blue print stage and those Imagineers are already working on blue prints for WDW attractions.

I expect Little Mermaid could roll out to WDW in the same way. As the specialists complete their work on their particular phase of that project they will be sent to the next park to do the same task.

As an example, some people are specialists in house foundations. They don't do the foundation and then sit around for the house to be completed. No, they move on to the next foundation while the first house is going through it's next stage of being built. I think the cloned "one Disney" attractions will "roll out" in similar fashion. In my opinion.

Although this thread has many different faces, the one item brought up revolves around whether or not the average Orlando vacationer is going to head to Uni instead of WDW when HP opens.

I think I am 1 of a decent sized demographic:
live in the Northeast
stay off property in timeshare
goes down once every year or 2 (for 7 days)
and finally, money of course is tight

so the option is get the 7 day ticket and spend the week only at the World
or get a 4 or 5 day ( at the same cost) and spend the extra $70/day (per person)to either visit Uni or SW.

if money is not an issue I would probobly get the 4 or 5 day ticket and spend the other 2 days at Uni or SW to see the new attractions.

I think many people will agree that would be a good option.

But if money remains tight I would just stay my 7 days at the World and be perfectly happy.

hope this wasnt too much of a thread drift...I would love to see HP and Manta etc...but not at any cost.

why is the conundrum even on this website he is obviously either a pessimist or a non disney fan

My guess is he is a former employee who is disgruntled he was not elevated to WDI in short order.

Or he works for Universal :ROFLOL:

By the way, there is a web site called the wizardingworldofharrypotter that has some amazing pictures of some of the facades being created off site.

I have to say I am very impressed.

You are probably right. But it just seems to me that if Mermaid was heading to Magic Kingdom just behind the DCA version we would be hearing rumblings of rumors and such by now. The DCA version has begun the demolition phase last week, but still not a word about a version headed to Magic Kingdom.

My hunch is that we will start hearing about rumors about it being greenlighted for Magic Kingdom 12 months or so before the demolition phase begins. But we still don't even have rumors about it getting the greenlight, which means 2012 at the very earliest for WDW, or more likely 2013 at the earliest.

That seems like a huge strategic planning mistake on Team Disney Orlando's part to me. But then, what do I know?

Would there have to be as much demolition for Magic Kingdom though as it is rumored to go on the old lagoon? I would think that may make it a quicker process.

I don't think so. In Anaheim you've got an abandoned theater building, nothing elaborate or architecturally unusual, that takes up about half the area that could be bulldozed in a week or two, with the rest of the area just empty backstage space. And in Anaheim you have the blessing of dry, sandy soil on top of solid coastal bedrock which makes digging and foundation building quick and easy.

In Orlando you have swampy land and a high water table adjacent to carefully constructed "utilidors" sitting on top of all that swampy land. That's not a recipe for an easy large project, regardless of what buildings may or may not be presently sitting there.

I'm no expert on construction, but that's my take on it. Demolishing the old Golden Dreams theater, which was a basic one story tall modern structure, can't take up more than a week or two of the construction timeline.

If money is tight, you do not go on a 7 day trip to WDW.

Wait until they are actually put together:D

Actually there was a rumor it has been green lit for the MK. Time will tell.
