Two versions of the Great Movie Ride?

I've done both versions, and I prefer the Bandit scene myself. I just enjoy it more (plus it's more fun being in the front car for the Oz scene).

So, the gangster gets fried when he/she tries to steal the jewel. How does the bandit meet his fate?

We have ridden both but usually get the gangster. I like that version the best.

Btw, what was the name of the book that you are talking about? Was it the imagineering guide to DHS or something else?

I went several times with the gangster scene, didn't visit Disney-MGM for several years and got the bandit scene. I thought they had changed up the Great Movie Ride!

Since then, I've been on both and would say they are both good scenes. Personally, I think the animatronics are better in the gangster scene, but the effects are better in the western scene so they even out. Having good cast members is the key. :king:

I can't remember the name of the book, nor the author. But the name was something along the lines of "600 WDW Secrets", or something like that. And it was a black cover, if I remember correctly.

I like the bandit scene better. The bank blowing up makes it much more interesting in my opinion. What bugs me about the gangster scene is that the car never seems to be working. Most of the time it's already sitting there when the ride vehicle pulls into the scene.

The whole system that makes it move is a bit touchy.

Thanks! I ask because if there is a Disney book I don't have, I want it! :ROFLOL:Our Waldenbooks is crappy though, they never have anything. I will have to check Books a Million.

I never knew that there were two versions, as (like most people) every time I'd been on The Great Movie Ride before I'd had the gangster scene. Then on my trip in August we got the cowboy version! And until reading this thread, I just assumed that the ride had been changed! I think it's quite interesting that many WDW fans didn't know about this!

I have seen both, and luckily, my wife (soon to be disney convert) has seen both too! We didn't realize the two different shows till our last trip.

Really, it doesn't matter to me which one I see.

Are there currently still two versions? Here now and haven't seen the cowboy version
Yep. If they're running both trains.

If the front half at load is empty it's just gangster. If load is full (two trains) ask a cast member to ride bandit. Unless they won't pay for the gas anymore.
