Two coasts: One very different world

Not true.
They have two substantial projects in active development, even "fast tracked" according to a few sources.
Perhaps Bob doesn't consider them "major" since they won't cost $500mil....
I was just quoting Bob Iger. You can spin it as you desire.

Is it wrong of me Spirit that I want to see DCA over DL first on my next trip? I feel like I'd see you kicking and screaming dragging me through the Esplanade holding a churro over me to drag me into walt's magic kingdom.

You WILL go to DL first because that IS the way it is supposed to be ... as to the churro, well, I'll hold something over you that's for sure! :D ... We should also get you to UNI and maybe even Knott's too!

Do you not believe that Bob Iger lies? Do you think he bends and twists things to suit the moment?

FWIW, I look at the context of the whole story and that is that Disney will be spending less in P&R reinvestment, and that is very likely true. DCA's Extreme Makeover is done -- and the second phase will likely be fodder for a coffee table book. Two billion dollar cruise ships are in service and making oodles of $$$, instead of costing it. Two of the three new lands at HKDL are done with the third ahead of schedule. Even the MK project is nearly completion.

The Avatar project is, indeed, the only $500 million type project actively in development for the domestic parks.

But ... that in no way makes what Lee stated 'spin' ... DL just had a major addition given the green light, but it shouldn't cost $500 million (although with WDI plus John Lasseter's interest, it could) but even if it does, spending for P&R will still be down the next few years.

And Aulani, everyone always forgets that's another cool Billion

They decided to combine the domestic park numbers to hide the massive decline in WDW visitation during the last several years. It worked!

Also, DL is not going to see any new major capital investments for a long time according to Bob Iger:

"We don't have any other big projects right now" in the U.S., Disney President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger said during a separate presentation. The lone exception, Iger added, is a "land" planned for Disney's Animal Kingdom based on the movie"Avatar,"which isn't expected to open until at least 2016.

That's just to hush up the investors. Which is odd, because there's lots of folks on Wall Street who love what they've done with DCA.

Just wanted to make sure that the edit process does not alter this message. Thanks for the insight.

It looks like the third gate at DL will be put on hold for awhile or perhaps they'll build it out of bamboo.
Maybe it's because I'm a sports fan that my first inclination is distrust authority figures. "No, we are not looking to trade player X.", "We are definitely bringing back our coach next year.", "We have had some good progress with his agent and we expect to re-sign player X.", etc.

*cough* Peyton Manning *cough* (R.I.P.)

Money talks. Money wins. "Authority Figures" are typically associated with paychecks and fondness of their positions. Why take risks when you have everything to lose, but everything to gain if you keep everyone's pockets full simply by maintaining?

I'd say spin to about 2-300 million.

Bless uncle Bob.

Bless his heart ... bless his heart (they say that a lot in the south, as I found out on my recent N.C. sojourn, have no idea what it means ... but they say it, even when they hate someone ...)

Anyone who is overly impressed (or perhaps impressed at all) with what Disney is doing in the MK, should go take a look at pics and video from Anaheim, Hong Kong and Tokyo and see what they have going for them this summer, while y'all get your pick of Dumbo spinners (unless one gets shutdown for an extended time to fix this shoddy work) to ride.
To toot my own horn a bit, I took some daytime and nighttime photos of Carsland over the last few days. I didn't end up buying the soundtrack for sale, so the music is "Life is a Highway", but I think you'll get the point. The visuals are stunning, it doesn't have the claustrophobic feeling of Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Radiator Springs Racers is up to the Indiana Jones Adventure in terms of quality for a thrill ride.

My biggest beef is that Tow Mater's Junkyard Jambroee and Luigi's Flying Tires are more or less kiddy attractions, and I would have much preferred a single dark ride over these two. Having said that, for what they are they are both well done when it comes to detail. The queue for Luigi's Flying Tires is excellent.

There's actually quite a big chunk of land there, north and west of ESPNZone, almost totally unused except for a big landscaping area and a two lane road they haven't used since the fall of 2001 (when that periphery road was shut down after 9/11).

The land in question would be directly at the bottom of this picture, and quite a bit of it out of the shot below the photo. Plenty of room to build a fourth tower parallel to the park directly north of the existing Adventure Tower. And you could dedicate the top floors of it to DVC and get at least another hundred new DVC units in Anaheim, bringing the total to 150 villas. Al Lutz has mentioned it would be the "Tomorrow Tower" and themed to Tomorrowland.

Here's the area around Disneyland, including the Toy Story Parking Lot:
http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=33.8017016&lon=-117.9148114&z=16&l=0&m=b

That's amusing because a Glendale type told me last week about CL and BVS that 'this is our best stuff ... our OLC level' ... and it sure looks like that.

People are talking about how Carsland makes them feel like they are in Radiator Springs and I've often described TDS as being in the movie where the other Disney parks make you feel like you're on a movie set.
Kids are asking their parents, "Was this where they filmed Cars?" That’s pretty cool stuff. Also, the Larry the Cable Guy songs in Tow Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree are all earwigs.
