TTA to be replaced with...GYROBALLS?

This dude on laughingplace says he saw the imagineering plans for New Tomorrowland at Disneyland and said that among the concepts is a "gyroball" type attraction to go on the peoplemover track. It is a new generation of ride vehicle that sits two people and allows them to rotate 360 degrees.

Al Lutz had mentioned this attraction awhile back stating it would include an "interactive" element that would allow the passengers to actually rotate the ride vehicle themselves. Seems intersting and im wondering if it opens at Disneyland and proves popular could this eventually replace the TTA at Magic Kingdom?

Here is the original quote concerning Tomorrowland from Mr.F:

"-The NEW New Tomorrowland
Another revamping of Tomorrowland is being planned. This New Tomorrowland would have a Silver, Blue, and Orange Color scheme, similar to the current color schemes of the Tomorrowland Cast Member Costumes. The Astro Oritor would be painted to match the new color scheme, and relocated back to the top of the old Rocket Jets Platform, but instead of Rockets, passengers would now be strapped into Jet packs, and experience the sensation of flying (Like Superman). The old space at the front of Tomorrowland (Where the Astro Orbitor is currently Located) would be converted into a fountain, as well as the two planters to the side of TL's Enterance. The old People Mover Track would be home to a new Gyroball ride. Riders would be completely enclosed in a clear sphere shaped vehicle which would turn and flip them around as it traveled along the track.

-Star Tours 3.5
This is the tittle I saw on some storyboards for the New Star Tours remake. One storyboard showed Darth Vader with some Storm Troopers, and another showed Star Speeders traveling through Tatooline. I'm guessing they want to make a different movie for each planet, since there were storyboards for each planet."

That's very interesting!

Sounds exactly like Disneyland's Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin in ToonTown, a dark ride where you can spin your car as fast as you want and the show takes place all around you.

Yeah well, you haven't been able to spin Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin "as fast as you want" in a LONG time. Thanks to the very litigious society we live in, those cabs were capped long ago at a very mild spin.

Thinking about it, if they could create a Roger Rabbit type experience except with a 360 degree gyrosphere motion, this might be a really fun attraction.

I'd like to see it at Epcot instead of sacrificing the TTA for it. With General Motors on thin ice and a new sponsor needed for an aging attraction concept that is getting weaker every year, perhaps it's something that could replace Test Track?

Uhm no, sorry. How about they just add it someplace else in Epcot, if they ever did want to add it to WDW.

A don't agree with you on SM but I definitely agree with you here.

While Test Track is not one of those rides you go on over and over it is great for the occasional visitor. There is a reason it has long lines. But it could use a new story line and plussing.

The suggestion people keep making that it should be removed seems ridiculous.

then lets call em "gyronuts"

or how about a ride i the "gyrosack" (I think this is more fitting though especially if the ride can only hold TWO, and sometimes one)

Let's just wait for confirmation kiddo

Maybe its just me, but this topic should be in the Disneyland section of WDWMagic... I think the relation to the TTA is a large stretch, and even you (the OP) have admitted that the relation is slim. I look at this slight relation as a means to shoehorn this rumor into the WDW forums, but really it doesn't have a place here (at least not in my eyes).

I will admit that the plans have been suggested for the next Tomorrowland update, but it is certainly not the first priority for the resort right now.

As for the Star Tours news, I believe that what he was describing were actual, individual scenes from the upcoming ride film--not individual ride films themed to various planets. I've heard nothing about a varying film per pod, and doubt that the implementation would be feasible, as you'd be dealing with guests trying to aim for a specific film. If one film were to become too popular, the attraction's wait times would fluctuate. Also, to sell an attraction to an audience without offering them the ability to get the full experience (all films) would be difficult, considering how heavily the company focuses on every seat and every circuit offering the same experience for every guest. Looking at this from a Disney perspective, the idea is neither logistically friendly or guest friendly.

As for the TTA, I think it has a right to be in here, I mean they are doing a 6 month referb or something, who says that they aren't going to put new ride vehicles, it's always a possibility. Just b/c a poster says that they're doing it 1st there n they're not gonna bring it here for 10 years, doesn't mean much without evidence. I speculate (via common sence) if they are going to referb it now, install the new ride vehicles now (1 so you dont do it 2ce and 2 make it look like incredibles and change the name) so they can start to build up incredibles 2 buzz before its even been filmed (kinda like that whole DAK 'dinosaur' disaster)

I would imagen problems like that would be welcome for an attraction whose attendance levels the last 3 trips I made to Disney (jan09, dec08, may08), wern't existant. Twice I walked stright through into my line, once they had just boarded to after walking stright through I waited an an empty line the full time of 1 trip to 'endor' Everytime I had between 10-20 MAX people on my voyage (yes I always look around n count when a ride I like doesn't have nearly as many people as I remember). They were also always running 1 pod. So getting work out of 6 pods, getting people to come to DHS OTHER then for ToT, RnRC, n TSM, moving around the theme park and maybe riding other rides, etc is worth having to say, "wait for a sec honey n ill get you on the next trip to hoth" I do it ALL THE TIME with RnRC "Hey can I have the front?" 'Sure wait right here n i'll put you on the next one'. It's not that big of an issue, n if people are WILLING to wait for a seat on a ride they wanna go on, then it will be a welcome change from the Star Tours we all know and love today.

....just my two pennies....

They arn`t. The Orlando peoplemover has a perfectly good infrastructure in place to run the induction propulsion system. Anahiem has a Rocket Rods busbar and guide system that is trashed and needs to be replaced from scratch. The forthcoming TTA rehab is more doing work whilst they need to have it closed for SM. There was one proposal about 2 years or so ago for a Jetsons-style bubble car to replace the TTA vehicles but it was scrapped.

There are some very kewl concepts for DL's T-Land and some were close to getting off the ground before George Bush broke the world (Seth Meyers SNL this past weekend's true words, not mine). With the economy collapsing, Disney's Anaheim focus became largely DCA, the resorts and filling all the vancancies in DD that keep popping up as places go out of business.

The concept mentioned here has been bandied about for the Peoplemover tracks, but there are a few ideas... and there's also the possibility they'll just rip out the track and do nothing. It really is up in the air.

Best case is an E-Ticket type experience gets done there.

But it won't come here. TTA is easy to maintain, cheap and popular. That's why it will go no where.

The only reason it is closing now is because you couldn't possibly keep it open and rebuild Space Mountain.

If it gets a few cosmetic touchups, then consider it a plus.
