TSI / Frontierland Addition

I've said it before and I'll say it again... After working in Frontierland for 9 months, I can safely say that it doesn't need an expansion. In fact, Frontierland is actually one of the most popular and best structured lands in the park. With two of the biggest E-Tickets in the park (Splash and Thunder) plus two decent minor attractions and a good eatery, it's a solid land that doesn't need expansion. Tomorrowland and Adventureland could use it before Frontierland and all three of the other parks could use an expansion before MK.

I agree in every single aspect. Frontierland is at the moment the best of all MK lands. There is no reason to change it as long as TL and AL are much more in need of a change after FL now gets the FLE.
However I would appreciate a new ride in Adventureland or at least a major refurb of the JC.

Potential space available for expansion:

Such a huge area outside the berm? I don't think so_Only if they use it for a ridebuildung with the entrance area inside the berm like PotC or the HM in DL.

Any expansion in Frontierland will require some major overhaul in order to provide access to TSI and (eventually) the back corner behind BTMR. Filling in the back part of the Rivers of America might be necessary to support the attraction, but it would likely not be the main access for the island. I seriously doubt that WDI would route the new access past Splash and BTMR - already the most congested part of the park. I'm sure that's why they're looking at bridging over to the island, for easier access and eventual expansion beyond TSI and past the berm. TSI is theoretically large enough to hold an E-ticket. I’m hoping for a Grizzly River Run–style attraction (done right).

I'm assuming that area outside the berm won't be developed for quite some time, but isn't it a designated expansion pad? (Please correct me if I am wrong). If they do develop that area in the future, I imagine it will be organized somewhat like DL's ToonTown - a dead-end cul-de-sac beyond the train tracks. I only show it here because any development on TSI will need to address potential access to this plot.

We need some Flavious27 map skills here. How much space is available at MK to expand frontierland?
ED. And then I found it -

I will say this, though the map looks good, I just don't think this looks like a very "accessable" expansion plot. It's sooo far removed from the Hub and I think it would be difficult to find/get to for non-seasoned park guests. I don't think we would see any Frontierland expansion without some major rework/redirecting of the Rivers of America, and if that happens, I think the plot North of the Haunted Mansion would be a better candidate.

One of my friends developed a Tales of Ichabod Crane attraction for tsi...it was accessible via a new bridge that connected the island to Liberty Sq. He entered this concept into WDI ImagiNations 2006 Design Contest. . .I would be excited to see it happen. Doubtful that the theme would be Irving's LOSH but it's still cool. That this may happen.

It was themed to a re-imagining of sleepy hollow. somewhere between tim burton and reality. It was designed as a dark place, accessed by a drawbridge from liberty square that "had not been crossed for many a year due to the frightening tales coming from Sleepy Hollow". It concentrated more on the headless horseman than Ichabod. Had a great story of townsfolk trying to escape to new york city through the forest. The ride system was essentially the EMV but with a randomized chase sequence through the forest. Vehicles were carriages, and there was an elaborate theatrical trick to make it seem like the carriages were being pulled by horses and piloted by a driver.

TSI would have been used for the mini-land and would have maintained many of the trees and nature/quiet aspect of TSI. Queue and entrance would sit on TSI but the rest of the ride would take place north of TSI via the ride itself taking a bridge northbound.

The riverboat would maintain movement due to the drawbridge.

Lee, PM me if this is even close to what is being rumored, i'd love to know.

I would much rather see an entire new section at DHS. It needs it. MK has plenty to keep you busy at the moment, and the FLE will make that even more true. I'm all in favor of getting rid of Country Bear Jamboree and Diamond Horseshoe review and redoing the area to move shops and get one more nice full service restaurant in there.
Now the purists will cry that Country Bears can't go because it was Walt's favorite AA show, blah, blah, blah. It's tired and needs to go bye bye.

To access the back part, just make another stop for the train.....

The other way is to make a path past HM.

I was thinking this also. Alter the coastline somehow to allow a walkway around HM. It could actually have a closed loop from over near the Village Haus and go behind the iasw show building.

I would just add another river boat or two and make that or the train the only access, don't worry about having to make walkways where they wont fit.

But I really think all of this is just pipe dreams anyway.

This is one of the rumors that, if true, would completely change the MK experience for me. There is a kinetic energy around the ROA, and the riverboat is one of the most iconic aspects of the park.

That said, it never feels like the WDW leadership really respects this area to me. The keel boats are gone, Aunt Polly's is gone, and the island seems to be neglected. It's kind of being left to die a slow death. In DL, this whole area is crazy busy and loaded with energy. At night, due to NOS and fantasmic, it is an amazing place to see and visit. Maybe that's due to the emotional connection that people still have with Walt's dreams. The "Mark Twain", Pirates, and TSI are all very closely associated with his original vision. But that has never been true at the MK. So I can completely see it being appealing for change.

In the end though, Blue Sky is Blue Sky and many many ideas come and go. Wild and crazy dreams. I bet there are many ideas that would make us crazy if we knew about them. By the time they actually do any of this I will probably be too old to enjoy the park. And that's a long time off (I hope)

Well, then, you really did just commit sacriledge by saying that.

Anything like this is going to be a long way down the line. There have been talks of Frontierland additions for over 10 years now - and so far nothing has materialized. Fantasyland moved ahead of it, and I don't see MK getting another large attraction for a good few years after 2013.
Agreed.
As I said, this is just as likely to end up in an Imagineering book as in the MK.
That said, I'm told there is some art to be seen if you happen to venture into the right offices....

Nope. Not close at all.

That makes a lot of sense. I think pulling Frontierland around to be north of HM would have to happen eventually, even if they did expand behind BTMRR
