I'll be in the Dunedin Brewery Friday night celebrating the storm that rocked the Gulf Coast. Or didn't.
Either way we'll know by then, and I'll be in there for those in the Clearwater area who want to relive the soon to be infamous (or not) FRIDAY THE 13TH STORM!!

BwanaBob - if you're buying, where will you be?

Well, my thoughts and prayers are with ALL of you Floridians and tourists, even if you are in a normally "safe" inland area. I know that it can be bad, especially near the coast. Also, I know that flooding and lengthy power outages can be destructive to some.

[I was out of power for 10 days, and knew at least one person who was killed from a tree falling through her roof onto her sitting on the sofa, in Hurricane Isabelle last September, here in Richmond -- inland in Virginia about the same distance that Orlando is inland. Of course, Isabelle was larger than Charlie.]

So, I hope everyone is safe. It turns out that we could not come down to WDW this weekend, weather or not. I may come down later.

In the meantime, keep us posted.

As for WDW, I have one question: what if the power goes out? Has it ever gone out throughout the resort before, say like during these storms.. Anyone ever experienced that?

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for all of you also.
This is the first time in a century that Florida has been hit simultaneously with two full blown hurricanes (Atlantic & Gulf).

We are usually in Bradenton this time of year so I'm glad we visited Florida in July . We were on Anna Maria Island during a "normal" rain & it flooded.

Take care & BwanaBob, I'll buy a round.

I think we'll all be fine, the ones who should be most concerned are the ones who live on the coastal areas.

I'm looking forward to my free day off from work tomorrow :D \o/

I think you've lucked out as both storms should be gone from Fla. by Friday, so hopefully everything should be refreshed and clear for your visit. Post hurricanes/trop. storms often provide some of the prettiest weather and lowest humidity (for Fla.).

hopefully it will cool Fla down some so it won't be so darn hot! the only thing we will have to worry about is running into the storms in GA, SC, or NC as we are driving from Virginia and not flying (its cheaper that way!)

Oh gosh do I remember that storm! I remember hearing the tree cracking out front of my dad's house. We all thought it was going to fall and the best place was to be in the kitchen at his house and Boo was in the living room in his cage and it had me worried because I couldn't take him out of his cage and he was in the tree's path had it come down. One house around the corner of me was completely demolished when the tree in their front yard came through the middle of the house. luckily, they were on vacation at the time. we lost our power for 10 days too! we cooked bacon and eggs for breakfast every morning from a pan sitting on the grill. we did what we had to do. luckily we had a half-a$$ generator to keep at least the fridge going

Caribbean storms trigger alerts
Millions have been put on alert as a hurricane and tropical storm sweep across the Caribbean and head towards the US state of Florida.

Hurricane Charley is expected to hit the Cayman islands on Thursday.

It caused heavy rains in Jamaica as it passed off its southern coast on Wednesday. No casualties are reported.

Tropical storm Bonnie, located in the Gulf of Mexico, has forced the evacuation of more than 100 oil rigs and is now moving towards Florida.

Governor Jeb Bush has declared a state of emergency as the twin storms approach Florida.

Schools and government offices have announced closures.

Hurricane Charley has winds of about 75 mph (120 km/h), which are expected to strengthen.

I've never been in a hurricane before - I'm kind of excited
US tourist in Cayman Islands
Although it did not hit Jamaica directly, rains from the hurricane are believed to have caused mudslides and flooding in parts of the island.

Jamaica's main airport has been closed and some cruises have been diverted.

Charley is now headed for the Cayman Islands, which are under a hurricane warning.

The Caymans are a wealthier and better-prepared British dependency and some tourists there are taking the alert in their stride, the Associated Press news agency reports.

"I've never been in a hurricane before," a US visitor from Las Vegas told the agency. "I'm kind of excited."

Cayman residents and businesses worked through Wednesday to put hurricane shutters over their doors and windows.

Charley is expected to hit Cuba and the Florida Keys by Friday.

Meanwhile, tropical storm Bonnie is headed towards the Florida Panhandle.

It has already caused widespread disruption to oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Gulf oil production has been cut by 25% and natural gas by 17%, according to the US Minerals Management Service.

The storm is also thought to be accelerating and could turn into a hurricane later on Thursday.

Hey, hold tight guys. I'll be thinkin' of ya :)

Well, this'll be my first hurricane since I've been down here.

Couldn't happen at a worse time considering we leave out of Port Everglades on Monday for western Carribean cruise.

Sounds like the perfect time to hit the parks. Bonnie + Charley = less crowds!! Fasten your seatbelts Florida. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

"p@$c0" *hee hee* Sorry, though I grew up in pasco, I live in Pinellas now and have for the last six-odd years. Though my mom lives up that way. I'm not going anywhere tomorrow. My little Mustang is old and in bad shape and doesn't drive well in watery conditions. I'm thinking a hurricane falls under that catagory.

We saw plenty of people stocking up on alcohol though tonight at publix so someone's gotta be near you to keep you company! :)

Well, considering they're projecting the storm is gonna hit here around 8pm tomorrow night, Dunedin Brewery might not be open. I got a friend who lives maybe a half mile from there and he's gonna ride it out at home. But we're gonna keep in touch as much as we can tomorrow to make sure we're both okay. He's one of my closest friends so I'm going to be worrying my butt off until this is all done. I'm far enough inland that I'm not in an evacuation zone.

One good thing about a hurricane though is it doesn't hang around too long. It blows through in a matter of hours and that's it. It doesn't hang around for days. I was laughing at people going nuts buying probably way too much stuff at the grocery store. I got enough supplies to last me for the next week for the most part.

But it's so calm here right now! No wind at all! Kinda freaky.

Oh... and those heading to WDW after Friday should be okay because it'll be all done with by early-mid Saturday. Cleanup will probably be a pain in the butt though.

It's the aftermath that could cause problems.

and after purchasing this, I've found out I'm on PM on call with my work, which means from 1pm onward, I can be called in. Plus side, free food and hotel room. Downside.. I just spend over $100 on all this crap (And filling up my tank with gas)
