And so is the naivety.

What makes Disneyland Disneyland. The “charm” people talk about. The stuff that separates Disneyland from the MK at WDW is being erased week after week right in front of our eyes.

Don’t let the haters fool you. MK is a great park with plenty of its own unique “charm” (I really hate that word) to be found. It’ll turn 50 yrs old in 3 years, it ain’t no spring chicken.

Haha ok to be fair I’ve never been but between the expansive grassy hub and other things I’ve read and seen it doesn’t sound like it has the nooks/ crannies and intimate feel Disneyland has. I’m sure it’s a great park in its own right. But I’ve never heard of anyone refer to MK as charming. Mostly just huge and other synonyms for big.

I never think that the park will ever look anything like Magic Mountain, or even DCA for that matter. But I do agree with you that the things that make Disneyland arguably better than Magic Kingdom are slowly being taken away.

Read some good retro WDW blogs like Passport2Dreams, you’ll see how wrong they all are.

They aren’t taken away and left as a blank wall. They are piling new details upon the old.

I said it before. They should just build a giant ramp over DL to Galaxy’s Edge and be done with it. All these half-hearted widening projects aren’t making anybody happy. Not even the miserable people who bring their SUV strollers.

Frontierland/Liberty Square is charming and there are a few parts of Fantayland that are charming. The rest? Not much charm.

I find charm at WDW, but in a quirky 1970's Design By Corporate Committee sort of way. But then I'm a weirdo who misses the giant swaths of slurry painted ground and thinks this type of 1970's mall architecture is swank.

To me it is not soo much about charm per say, even though Disneyland has tons of it, it is about personality. Disneyland has it. MK does not. period. Disneyland truly is magical in that the second you step into it, you feel Walt's presence. You feel his personal touch and presence throughout the park. You feel that history. Disneyland was designed as something truly original and they had to do it within certain size constraints. they designed it to be unique. When they were building it, they did not know there was going to be a sequel park or future resorts. They did not even know if the park would be successful. So they focused on making a park that could stand the test of time. Love, care and personality went into it. MK can not say the same. They wanted a park in FL and made a copy of Disneyland. Oh sure it had the first SPACE MOUNTAIN and the Mansion is in a different location, but it is just a copy. no heart or personality of it's own. space was not a issue so the imagineers were able to try to improve upon things they thought needed improving upon on the attractions but there is something to be said for art that comes from diversity. MK is a nice looking park but DISNEYLAND will always be better. end of discussion.

And as much grief that Sleeping Beauty Castle gets for it's size, I am glad we can not see it from all over the park compared to that monstrosity in MK. Let's take the Haunted Mansion in both parks for examples. once I enter the yard of the Mansion in DISNEYLAND to me that is where the rid experience starts. I am full immersed that I am in a yard of a house. I would lose that immersion if I could see a giant castle. where as in MK the mansion is right next to the castle. so you have this Victoria era run down mansion next to a giant fantasy castle that can be seen from the que of the ride it ruins any immersion. Haunted Mansion in DISNEYLAND fits perfect into NEW ORLEANS SQUARE I don't even know what land the MK mansion is supposed to be in since it is right next to a giant castle. the castle in Disneyland is perfect the way it is.

I like seeing other parts of the park in the park. I don't like that Galaxy's Edge won't even have the DLRR in it. Bothers me.
I don't mind a little sight line spill over. it works in certain areas. my point was in relation to everyone saying how our castle is too small and it needs to be bigger so you can enjoy it from all over the park, my counter is Disneyland was built to have the lands be as immersive as they can be so you don't see the castle while you are in the jungles of adventureland and so on. sure you can see big thunder from new orlean square but it works because it is off in the distance not towering over Pirates or Mansion. if I am in the que for Masion I cant see big thunder for I am fully immersed once I am in the yard

When Disneyland was built, you were able to see the castle from everywhere in the park because Walt wanted to guests to know where they were and how to get back to the hub from wherever they were in the park. Everything now is just overgrown. Disney World still follows how Walt wanted the park to be. Where you can always find your way by using the castle from anywhere in the park.
