TRON Lightcycle Overlay coming to WDW Monorails

Why would that be a consequence from the crash last year?

I thought I heard that there would be nothing covering the windshield (Stitch) anymore, just to keep the pilot's view completely unobstructed.

Anyway, about the overlay... just please, please, PLEASE take it down in a timely manner! I think it will look pretty good in person, and it's not the same as having a 'G-Force 2' monorail, but there's NO reason for it to be up after the DVD comes out.

If we did not love Disney why would we care? We expect what Disney has conditioned us to expect and when Disney does something incredibly tacky and stupid they are going to hear about it. Otherwise we would be Defenders of Mediocrity.

I am not sure I understand what it is that you feel Disney has conditioned you to think?

Walt himself was all about innovation, trying things, doing things a little different or placing the unexpected with the expected. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

You realize that Disneyland itself was a great experiment. Unheard of at the time. No one thought tying elements of movies and other entertainment to an amusement park would work. And yet, here we are 55 years and 13 parks later.

:ROFLOL:

Let's all go back to the seventies or early eighties when everything was perfect. Back when Disney did everything for the sole purpose of making the fans happy. Back when aesthetic value was held in higher regard than fiscal responsibility. Back when the company was on the verge of bankruptcy and needed to learn useful corporate techniques (from michael eisner no less) like cross promotion to stay afloat to build more theme parks with more attractions and make more movies.

The glory days may have been great but they couldn't possibly have lasted any longer.

Oh, and "deceiving" would be a better word than "conditioning." They deceived themselves about the proper way to run a company, and they deceived the current disgruntled fans to expect a product that could only be delivered at the cost of perilous financial times.

Like it or not, it's things like this cross promotion that pays for new e-tickets. If they had cross promoted PatF more fiercely, then "tangled" might still be "rapunzel."

I just had a though, disney could either cover the monorail with a bus wrap... or do what they do on the busses and plaster advertisements on the inside, maybe even try something new by broadcasting ads in between talking about the hotel your passing...

As long as the wrap looks attractive I have no problem with it, especually since It wont be on there for longer than a year. (March through movie run then DVD sales like 5-7 months later...)

I am a big fan of Tron (though I have my reservations about the new film) and while that may make me a bit biased - I will take this over the balloon stickers any day. I think it is a bit early to be doing this - film is out this Holiday season - I think it looks good. Keep it on the Epcot line, remove it in a timely fashion, and it is fine by me.

Think for yourselfer
It is a bad idea not because advertising with the monorails is a bad idea in general. It is a bad idea because it is ugly, gaudy and tacky. If this was a cool overlay, maybe a little more subtle, then it would be just fine with me. This just looks like doo doo.

As for the actual movie, I think Disney might be in some trouble with it. The Budget was At Worlds End huge. And quite frankly it doesn't have nearly the following. I think this movie was a huge unwarranted risk.

In my opinion that looks horrible... Of course this is coming from someone who is not a fan of Tron... But the design looks gawdy.... :hurl:
What else will they promote on the side of it? When the new Pirates movie comes out will we see a pirate ship design..... Disney monorails are not mobiel billboards

Oh come on...a pirate ship wouldn't make sense on the monorail beam or on the Epcot loop. but a sleak futuristic Light Cycle makes some thematic sense on what is supposed to be a sleak futuristic monorail. Ant the fact that it goes through Future World also adds to it. Great tie in!

Apparently they haven't learned from this.

I don't know if you can compare this Tron overlay to that...unless to say that the Tron overlay is done much better than that advertisement!

EWWWWW, this thread is ugly. It's just an advertisement for Disney and it ruins the iconic internet forum.

I like my threads static, mediocre and unchanging.

And keep advertisements out of Disney, I can't turn a corner in those parks without seeing a lousy excuse to hawk castles, Mickey, and junk...Let alone all those nations selling me their koreaican stuff in Epcot...Speak America, we're in America!

haha  I have a feeling that the people on this forum will NEVER think that Disney will do something right. They don't like this overlay, they don't like Fantasyland Expansion, they don't want MSEP coming for a few weeks over the summer because Spectro is so great. :brick:

I am not a fan, but it's not that bad. At least it is only temporary and not like some of the other things they have done... like the wand, the hat, or turning the castle into a cake, which in my opinion had to be the worst decision ever made.

I can deal with the TRONorails for this year...

Crap! You beat me to it!

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

I have nothing against Tron. I'm tired of them messing with the look of the Monorails. It's like a moving billboard. I'd rather see them bring back the "pixie vomit" from year of a million dreams.

The two trains will be designated as "Epcot Only" but they will still be on the express beam twice per day when they bring them to/from shop...and it could even be mid-day if there's a malfunction of some sort. Imagine how that will look going around Seven Seas Lagoon...through the Contemporary, past the Wedding Pavilion...in front of the Main Street train station...etc. Not to mention it will be completely visible from World Showcase.

Monorail Coral is the 1st train up to get the paint overhaul. I mean it needed a new paint job, but this isn't what I had in mind. I hope that it's still referred to Coral instead of something like "TRON 1" or "TRON 2".

I hope people that think this is such a "cool idea" will be as responsive when Disney starts plastering advertisements all over Spaceship Earth, Cinderella Castle and the Tree of Life. Never gonna happen you say? Too iconic you say? What would you call the monorails?

This is just the beginning folks. Buses, boats, ferries - All soon will look like minor league baseball parks.
