News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

I found a video that shows the outside of the ride in Shanghai for a period of time so I could see the time between trains which was between 33 and 40 seconds. Each train holds 14 people so the THRC would be between 1260 and 1526.
I'll bet $5 and say this is was video:

And thanks to you, I'm stuck listening to the great area loop.

Those numbers are unacceptable. Unless they make some train or length adjustments, which looks highly unlikely, this ride will have a horrific wait time for possibly decades.

So like Seven Dwarfs? 90 mins for something like that is a joke, at least to me.
That one's bad, but I think Tron's much worse. Seven Dwarf's is a family ride Disney didn't think would be the hit it is today. Tron is an E-Ticket coaster, and I believe all E-Ticket coasters should have a THRC of 1800-2000 at the lowest (and I'm being generous with those numbers). If this ride can't even hit that, it is a pathetic E-Ticket from an Operations standpoint.

This attraction certainly has its faults, location and capacity being 2, but I’m sorry, I continue to be excited about this one, no Tron fan wouldn’t be.
And you can be super excited for this ride. I'm still excited to experience it. I'm just worried about the coaster from an operations viewpoint.

Absolutely, that’s a vaild concern for sure. My concerns are similar with GotG and Epcot as a whole, so my energy is spent there haha. Outside of my super fandom of Tron and honestly the fact this didn’t replace a beloved attraction, I don’t have as much worry or disgust of this one.

The flip side though is that many MK patrons will be excluded from riding Tron just due to the height restriction (should be 48"). Unlike 7DMT where the height restriction is pretty low and allows most kids to ride.

The Shanghai version also is pretty restrictive in terms of body size/shape, so it will be interesting to see if accommodations are made for the WDW version.

WDW, which used to be by far the most accommodating park in America for people with different body sizes/shapes and for disabled guests, seems, in the last few years, to have completely abandoned such accommodations. Among the price increases and quality declines, this newfound disregard for allowing as many folks as possible to experience new attractions is one of the most troubling decisions Disney has made.

So in short, I would be immensely surprised if they change the ride vehicles for the Orlando version. That would cost money.

1) The only ride which can be considered for the "abandonment of plus size individuals" is Flight of Passage so far.

2) These ride vehicles are modified Vekoma Bike Coasters. I really don't know much that Disney could do to make them accessable for larger guests.

I don't agree with the "MK is for Kids" statement but there is something to this. I used to roll my eyes at the Speedway - until we took my son to MK for the first time and I saw his face as he got behind the wheel. And we'd been on other "car on a track rides" at other local amusement parks - but this one, for some reason, was magical for him. So much so that on our next visit to MK later in the week, we rope dropped the speedway at his request. You know your a parent when you rope drop the Tomorrowland Speedway.

I also read somewhere (probably here) that the idea of removing the speedway was surveyed and scored low. Apparently there is a nostalgia factor, and many parents who went on the speedway as a kid with their parents dream of taking their children on it. Kind of a rite of passage. So I can see why there is a desire to keep this attraction, whereas if you asked me about this a decade ago, I would have been right there advocating for taking it down for a better attraction.

All that said, it does need a reimagining. I believe the current rumor is that it will be rethemed with Tron styling and changed to electric cars.

My problem was always that it was a poor speedway compared to the others. I hope it's plussed in this re-theme. My stance was that if they aren't going to update it, rip it out (but I liked the idea of having an Autopia behind Test Track ....). Sometimes it's not about "us" too and that's fine (I shout all the time about having a variety of experiences for EVERYONE). I just don't like the mantra "MK is for kids" either. When did "family park" = "kidz only"? LOL. I wonder when that shift happened. I hear it a lot.

Aren't there vehicles on TRON where you can ride in a cab car (I'm not really explaining it right) or something like that? or am I totally making that up? LOL

They’re only really modified in that they are custom bodies. The updated restraint system is Vekoma’s.

Yes, there are traditional seats available.

FoP is also lousy at accommodating disabled guests, as I mentioned. So, oddly enough, is River Journey. Dwarfs, I understand, is quite cramped for larger guests.

As for Tron, I am not an engineer, but my suspicion is that Disney could modify the ride vehicles, at least to some extent, if they so chose. In any case, this issue is linked to WDWs recent focus on coasters over other ride types.

It’s worth noting that Universal is worse at accomadating different body types, though I have found them markedly better in assisting the disabled.
