News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

Just out of curiosity, why do you find that to be an issue? Seems no different to me than having Snow White's Scary Adventures and Winnie the Pooh next to each other.

With that logic, you could say no dark rides should be next to each other. However, the difference is that those rides are completely different. In my opinion, two roller coasters that are suppose to be major attractions next to each other looks tacky in WDW.

Well to me, it would be because neither Pooh or Snow White was designed to be the focal point or "showpiece" ride of Fantasyland.

Whilst Space Mountain is clearly the focal point, and the showpiece ride. Having Tron next to it will have an impact on that.

That's not to say I'm not looking forward to it. The idea has grown on me, I wasn't that interested at first, because of the IP. And I'll take it where it is rather than not at all.
Fair point, I get that. Though I would argue from a practicality standpoint it is better for the park to take some stress off of Space.

That was my whole point. The same logic applies to saying no coasters should be next to each other. Again, just my opinion.

Devil's advocate - Mystic Manor could certainly sit next to Haunted Mansion.

Tron is a bit more half way in between in my opinion. So I see both sides.
Agreed, but many would mind it being in Liberty Square lol. I wouldn’t mind seeing Mystic Manor in Adventureland, though.

I don’t mind Tron next to Space Mountain. They’re both coasters, but wildly different, so that’s fine. My question is if they complement each other. Tron’s facade is wavy and fluid while SM is angular and rigid. Do opposites attract or will they clash?

Gentlemen,

As we begin to bathe in the satisfaction of another Friday, another week completed, I felt it prudent to stop and address a serious issue here in the Tron thread. I don’t mean to make waves @EricsBiscuit - but disagreeing with @marni1971 has historically been, at best, a practice known to not work out well for most. While I certainly understand your opinion in this matter, it would be a sin of omission on my part to not present you with references of persons who disagreed with Martin in the past. Here then, in abbreviated form of course, is a small sample of such celebrities:
  • Harold Fizzul - Inventor of 6 UP Soda
  • Herr Heimlich Kersplodin - Scientist responsible for dirigible gas selection
  • Allen Sinken - Proprieter of Submarine Screen Door Superstore
  • Sven Tinkle - Creator of the Swiss Army Urinal
  • General George Custer - Pincushion
As you can see, a more disreputable cast of characters the world has not been witness to. And I’d hate to see you end up associated with this lot, mainly as you like steam trains and seem like someone quite on the level. (Editor’s Note: I also now hope you have a great sense of humor.)

By way of closing this post, I quote another:

Hear! Hear!

Cheers all...
Haha! Thank you good sir

Tron and Space Mountain are completely different though. For some reason it seems that coasters are all lumped into one group while dark rides don't face the same scrutiny.

Gentleman, by my count, 2 Space Mountains are better than one Space Mountain.
Magic Kingdom has two Space Mountains.

They’re not that different and a properly maintained/updated Space Mountain would be even less different.

Can we just think of TRON as a third track for Space Mountain? Simply extra capacity for TL coastering?

A hope... maybe a too optimistic hope... is that TRON's presence allows WDW to finally refurbish Space Mt, and not just with a new track, but a whole new ride system with cutting edge SFX.

I still say there is an opportunity to do something with the two track layout. Could they leave one track as "Classic" and the other as "2.0" with a new track and cars, etc.?
