Toy Story Mania... Now on the Wii

Are you Midway?

Last time I checked I wasn't some surly, pot-smoking, dirty-looking, pony tailed carny who loves to give people a chance to buy deep fired goods or play a rigged game of ring toss. Could be wrong though.

And it's Midway Mania, that's what the sign says outside and in the ride (on both coasts) and that's what the designers called it. Anything else is just crappy marketing.

Any new Disney game that doesn't have the words "Kingdom" and "Hearts" in the title probably aren't worth playing.

You, Sir, get one of these: :sohappy: I would even settle for a port of Kingdom Hearts on the Wii. I'll remain cautiously optimistic and hope that the extra levels they are adding to this game are not the same ones they have on the website.

I have a sneaking suspicion this marketing approach had something to do with the craptastic "Disney Parks" brand somehow.

The games will be exactly alike. The only difference will be that you are not in a ride vehicle and the screen is smaller and without set pieces. Other than that it is the exact same thing. Maybe' if the games were different then it would make sense. but from the description it is just the attraction on the Wii.

What set pieces would you be refering to??

I think it's just marketing. I don't believe the name ever officially changed. It was always marketed as Toy Story Mania. The billboards and signs in CA labeled the ride without the "midway" well before the ride even opened. As far as I know, DCA park maps still label it "Midway Mania", but the website and marketing materials do not. I have no clue as to why the mixed message. Especially in DCA, where there is indeed a Midway.

Good point about marketing. I am basing my comments on official websites and fact sheets, etc from Disney media. I don't care if it's with or without Midway, but some folks were passionate about the inclusion of Midway although it is absent from most print documentation. I agree that a majority of guests who see the signs or ride the attraction would call it TSMM. Peace .

I think this is a cool idea, and I hope the game is good. My oldest son is the only one of my boys who has been on Toy Story Battle of Midway Island Mania, and he could not get enough of the attraction. Now, he has his chance. If the Wii game sells well, and it should, I can see Disney plastering the attraction all over their TV ads as a reminder that the "real" one is at WDW.

Interesting idea

First off, everyone should admit that Nintendo has turned a blind eye to its hardcore fans. The Wii could have been better, the controls SHOULD have been better (hence the upcoming new Wii-mote attachment) but they saw an opportunity to cater to an all new audience. Back in the day, first-party Nintendo titles were legendary (that's why the company still continues to package and resell its classics still).

That said, I'm also a Disney fan at heart and will probably pick up this game. It'll probably play like crap, but if it can help me boost my score at the park-more power to 'em. It's a double-edged sword, really. Do they make it exactly like the ride-or do they just use the name recognition and go off that?

I was surprised that this wasn't in the works for the Xbox Live Arcade, or Sony's downloadable service. Compared to 3rd party sales on the Wii, these venues generate a lot more money with less financial costs due to the digital distribution.

Still, I'm interested...

BTW-for those interested...

The Meet the Robinsons game was surprisingly good. Sort of like a watered down version of Beyond Good & Evil, with a tad more collecting and puzzles thrown into the mix.

Also, I'd love to see a modern remake of Adventures in the Magic Kingdom with polished gameplay.

First person outside of Square to see the original Kingdom Hearts...my claim to fame.

This game sounds great! The Wii tech is a perfect fit for the TSM tech...I think it'll be a great family fun game! Can't wait to try this out!

I'm excited. I'll buy it and any attachments that go with it. I love the wii. I haven't been disappointed with any of the games I've purchased for it.

Why go to the park if you can play it at home? Very dumb move and for the last time Disney' it's MIDWAY MANIA! maybe they can release the descent of Spaceship Earth as a video game too.
Sorry, but I have never subscribed to that kind of logic because it simply is not correct for the majority of people. I can watch any one of a hundred videos if Illuminations, Wishes or Fantasmic, there are ride throug
videos of every attraction in every Disney park on the planet available on line at a moments notice and all watching them does is make we want to see them in person because the experience is much better in person. This game will make people that have never heard of TSMM make a trip to WDW to play the game for real. If this game is done correctly it will be a gold mine for the mouse on both the video game end and the theme park end.

So far in this thread we have:
  • People judging it before it comes out.
  • People splitting hairs over the smallest detail.
  • People getting upset over said hairs.
  • People blaming upper management.
  • People blaming departments that probably have little to do with the game.
So we need someone to throw some DVC hate in here and it is a typical "new product" WDWMagic thread.

I'm probably going to buy this. You know why? We are adopting a 9 year old boy who has never been to Walt Disney World and this game will be a perfect tool to get him excited about going.

It may suck for me, a pretty hardcore gamer, but it doesn't matter. It will be something I can do with my new son to get him excited about a family vacation. That's going to be worth the $50 (or whatever) to me.

Do not forget to add the obligatory "Walt would not have done that"

I am a hardcore gamer myself but it is hard to deny that the Wii is a fun system. I am the only gamer in my house but the whole family likes the Wii.

I agree. I would much rather play party games with my family on a mediocre system that is accessible to them than play top of the line games with faceless people on the internet.

Unless this game is completely horrible, it will accomplish that for my family.

Oh, I agree that it's much more fun to play games with people you know. My problem is that developers don't put the time needed into Wii games to make them anything more than mediocre. Sure, most of the games are fun, but even my little sister tires of them pretty quickly.

That is pretty much the skinny of it.

Do you play the 360 or the PS3?
