Toy Story Mania... Now on the Wii

I find myself personally playing 360 more than the other 2 systems. The 360 games have better online, sometimes, but not always, look better. I use my PS3 for the console exclusives and Blu-ray.

(BTW-Check out Bolt in high definition. Absolutely gorgeous, and I can't wait for Monsters Inc. next month.)

I rarely use the Wii, because it doesn't work well with my TV. No HDMI output makes it a pain. The first party games are good and there's a smattering of worthy Capcom releases, but the massive amount of shovelware disappoints me to no end. One or two party games is fine, but an entire industry of clones only hurts the developers by splitting the market.

Despite my Wii misgivings, I will get Midway Mania if it even remotely attempts to be like the 2 rides.

PS3 and  World of Warcraft mostly.

I'm liking me some Call of Duty: World at War right now. I was a big fan of the CoDs for computers.
360 here but I rarely go online. When I am gaming I want no contact with humans at all...not even on the other end of an internet connection. I did PC gaming for a long time before I got my 360 but got sick of the constant upgrades. I avoid MMORPG's like the plague because I know that I would get so sucked into them that I would never leave my house.

First screens are out. They look identical to the ride. Unless they are hold back some stuff, it looks like a direct port of the ride onto a disk.

Those have to be ride screens. The Wii doesn't have the horsepower to produce those images. The scenes may be the same, but it won't look like that.

The fact that so many ppl on this forum are actually excited about this speaks volumes

I don't blame Disney for refusing to invest in the parks if there guarenteed your money no matter what.

I have no personal opinion on the release of this for the Wii, even though I own one... But that being said:

They are going to sell an INSANE amount of these around the resorts. An INSANE amount. People ride the attraction on their vacation, then in the gift shop see they can almost take one of the attractions home with them.

Whether the game is good or not, I bet this thing sells hundreds of thousands of copies.

Well, technically the Wii could look identical if most of the visual elements are used as a CGI backdrop, with only the constantly changing elements using sprites/polygons.

Although this limits the amount of interaction, is does make it possible.

The screens are straight from IGN, and they say they are the first screens of the game.

Understood. Wasn't arguing that point. I really appreciate you posting those. I just know that nothing on the Wii looks that good. I'm sure those came from Disney Interactive and IGN hasn't actually seen the game, yet.

I guess. Personally I don't think it looks that great. But who knows.

So far in this thread we have:
  • People judging it before it comes out.
  • People splitting hairs over the smallest detail.
  • People getting upset over said hairs.
  • People blaming upper management.
  • People blaming departments that probably have little to do with the game.
So we need someone to throw some DVC hate in here and it is a typical "new product" WDWMagic thread.

I'm probably going to buy this. You know why? We are adopting a 9 year old boy who has never been to Walt Disney World and this game will be a perfect tool to get him excited about going.

It may suck for me, a pretty hardcore gamer, but it doesn't matter. It will be something I can do with my new son to get him excited about a family vacation. That's going to be worth the $50 (or whatever) to me.
:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

I am going to get this game also..sounds fun to me...

and are you really?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY!..I am so excited for you and your wife!!!!:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:;)

I'm so excited for this! My husband & I used to stay up all night in college playing Kingdom Hearts. I haven't found a game I like as much since - but TSM for Wii sounds fun! I need practice, I'm terrible on the ride.

Now if only Wii would do a Kingdom Hearts 3 :)

I guess Ma, Pa and my sisters will love it. Will have to make sure they don't bring a copy home with them when visiting WDW though. Those US disks are unfriendly with our UK systems :ROFLOL:.

I would like to echo the comments about the Kingdom Hearts series moving to\being re-released on the Wii.

The games will be exactly alike. The only difference will be that you are not in a ride vehicle and the screen is smaller and without set pieces. Other than that it is the exact same thing. Maybe' if the games were different then it would make sense. but from the description it is just the attraction on the Wii.
Why go to a baseball game when I can watch the exact same thing on TV? Many things are simply a better experience in person, TSM included.

I agree. I would much rather play party games with my family on a mediocre system that is accessible to them than play top of the line games with faceless people on the internet.

Unless this game is completely horrible, it will accomplish that for my family.
Couldn't agree more. As a recommendation for third party titles on the Wii, I highly recommend checking out Boom Blox and World of Goo (WiiWare). Boom Blox is totally accessible fun that is so simple in concept and execution, anyone who can swing their arm can play. World of Goo is just awesome. It satiates even a hardcore gamer like myself, although my infant has made me more of a casual gamer these days.

I avoid MMORPG's like the plague because I know that I would get so sucked into them that I would never leave my house.
Probably a good idea. Having been a former EQ, SWG, and WoW addict, I am happy to say I've been MMO-free for over a year now. I didn't even need a patch or gum!

Hi again - not trying to start a ruckus or anything - just pointing out that although some references (signage, etc) may include the word "Midway" - the name of the attraction has officially been shortened to Toy Story Mania. Please check the official WDW website for confirmation.

Have a nice day .

You can CALL it Toy Story Mania if you really HAVE to, but that's NOT the name. Barring the quote from one of the lead imagineers ("It's why we put MIDWAY MANIA as the biggest part of the sign on both coasts.") you can get plenty of confirmation. Like the curtains when the ride starts and ends. The GIANT LOGO on the back of the Cast Members. The HUGE sign above the ride, the countless safety signs, and even most of the newer merchandise. The name of the ride is TOY STORY MIDWAY MANIA. Only the Marketing people (AKA the same people who make the poorly run WDW website.) say it without Midway.

Not to sound mean, that's just the truth.

Regarding the difference between Midway and not Midway, I thought it was the difference between the DCA version which looks much more like a boardwalk midway and the DHS version which isn't.

Nope, they are both Midway Mania.

Are you Midway?

Yes!
:D

I wonder if the new Wii Game will post more "realistic" high scores. I'm so tired of the fake ones in the parks. :lookaroun

 :sohappy:

You know I'd be REALLY happy if it was a WDW-DL-Exclusive, that would be a great trade off.

The next Kingdom Hearts will be appearing on PSP, with a possible sequel for PS3 after (with a likely port to 360).

Third-parties have been losing money on the Wii releases.

Unless FF Crystal Chronicles moves a lot of units, I'd doubt a Kingdom Hearts on Wii.

The controller isn't all that suited for it either...

Yeah, that would be me. The world around me could completely fall apart but as long as my internet connection stayed solid I would never even look up to notice.
