Even tho I enjoy WDW's flagship version..I'd say the Disney Sea Version of ToT is by far the best themed version..There site even has a huge backstory since Japan's version isn't themed to The Twilight Zone. http://www.tot1899.com/english/

The back story to that version is very interesting, and after watching the ride through on youtube i was very impressed.

TOT is really an example of how theming can make what would otherwise be a rubbish ride amazing. Without the detail, we would be left with Doctor Doom's Fearfall :p.

Dr. Doom's uses a different ride system than TOT. Dr. Doom's is an air powered launch tower while TOT is a unique drop tower (that's more of a pull tower) that pulls you faster than gravity (of which the acceleration of gravity is about 9.81 meters per second squared) to achieve "hang time" for maximum effect.

Yes there are issues with the vehicle moving forward through that scene. It does take a lot of maintenance to keep it working well. It's also sensitive to guest dropping thiings in that area and activating sensors that shut down the vehicle. The complexity of that part of the ride system is the reason why only Orlando has the vehicle capabale of moving forward.

Wow, that website is amazing, and Tokyo Disney seems to have the best version. Their hotel looks amazing and the story is great. I still like the TZ factor to mgm's but still theirs is really cool.

Anyone else wish they would put a suite in the tower similar to the one at Cinderellas Castle for guests to win an overnite stay for a new promotion.

ToT is one of my favorite rides also. Not because of the thrill. TBH i do not believe it is that much of a thrill. Simply going on ToT at nighttime is like nothing else. Walking up the twisty path in the dark, the music, the view, the walls. The CM's are usually great. The story behind it. Read The Imagineer's book and it is really interested how they chose it. I never knew there was not a twlight zone episode about an elevator. I think it was perfectly planned. Well i pretty much love everything Disney does.

Great thread!

Question about ToT in WDW...
When the drop sequence is over and you are about to be brought back to the unload area, the doors close in front of you as you are moving backwards. Before the doors shut completely, you get a quick glimpse of Rod Sterling and a few objects, and it appears that Rod is speaking, although nothing can be heard.

Why is this? Was he supposed to have a concluding remark post-ride or something? We found it strange that he appears for a few seconds, then the doors close and that is all.

Thanks!

I think the images are supposed to represent a summary of what happened, Good ole' Rod speaking being one of them.

I agree with you. Its the atmosphere that makes ToT so great. I love riding it at night, esp. when there is no line it just makes it feel more real. But just like every disney thrill ride, its all about the experience and story rather than thrill, because most of them arent really thrilling at all.

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems to me that sometimes the "welcome back to those of you who made it" plays at a slightly different time than others. I don't know what could cause this, and it's definitely possible that I just don't remember correctly, but when I was there in February, once it played so soon that it was silent by the entire time the elevator was spinning and moving to the exit, and another time it was so late it wasn't quite done when the doors opened to let us out.

I always assumed it was supposed to play earlier, rather than later, so that the welcome back sequence corresponded with what was on the screen. Maybe not, though?

Hmm maybe that is it...? I'm not sure, but I just find it weird that he is shown so quickly and that's it.

Jeffk410; GREAT avatar. I now have a picture that I will try to recreate for myself in November.:sohappy:

I love it because in the background mainstreet is empty also. I actually did not take this. This was done by another member on the site. I asked for his permission, because i loved the picture so much. It was Figments picture.

that may have been when they were working on the audio on the ride i think. the sound was also a bit off during my trip in january. and a couple cm's mentioned work was being done audio wise as well

ps. here is an eerie photo i took
