Tom Staggs drops some REAL information about the future

Like Cedar Point, right? Even King's Island has a few great rides (The Beast is still the best wood out there other than morning, IMO) Simply put, I agree with a lot of what "JustinTime" has said. I have been able to go to WDW 4 times. First back in 1997 with my wife, then in 2004 with my wife and kids, again in 2007 with my wife and kids, and finally in 2011 with my wife and kids. This last time we went in June and also made a day trip to see WWOHP. The ride was super and the themeing great. Still, other than Potter, I was not overly impressed. We had a better time at the Disney Parks. This was with two teenagers. Maybe the jet stream is causing some pixie dust to be blown up into the Ohio Valley, but, given the choise between the two, I'll go with the Mouse and the Disney IP.
What does Cedar Point have to do with any of this? That is an amusement park. That is what Cedar Fair operates and is what they themselves say they operate. It's why they dropped the Paramount name and intellectual property when they purchased those parks. Intellectual property does not create themes and of the two, Disney versus Universal, it is Disney that has far fewer of its big concepts and attractions tied to pre-existing intellectual property whereas Universal's parks are almost completely based in pre-existing intellectual properties.

Down (lazy)Boy. Just responding to Lee's premise that ride trumps IP. Thrill/Amusement/Theme Parks, whatever you want to call these Benjamin eaters, I was simply expressing my opinion that I would rather head to WDW. Case in point, we get to go to a Show Choir event this coming April at Hard Rock Live. Very much looking forward to seeing Potter again. Will we extend out trip to see more of Universal - NO. Then, come November, we may be heading to WDW for a Marching Band trip. Will we extend our trip to do more at WDW - YUP. It is all good. Now for the OP, would I like to see WDW move forward, absolutely. But I represent one of those visitors that only makes it down every 3 to 4 years, fwiw, and will spend my time and benjamins first and foremost with the Mouse.

And... I rest my case. Thank you.
Enjoy your nap. I will put your walker next to your crochet needles in the sitting room. "animated wink" No issues DXER, just pointing out that you took all of 2 sentances to throw 3 names out. Was that really needed? Tongue in cheek - who, after all, is the adult :D

And Lee's premise was clearly discussing rides as they appear in theme parks, not the multitude of hard steel rides that would populate an amusement park. You're offering up your opinion of superiority with a false choice. Your preference of Walt Disney World, unless you greatly limit yourself while there, only furthers his point as it is the Universal parks which are more focused on intellectual property.

OK. Gotcha. I do not try to limit myself wherever I go, it is counter productive. Safe to say I rather enjoy the Disney Parks as they provide a significant upgrade in experience versus my local offerings. Still, even KI introduces new things on practically a yearly basis. . .

All the parks are more focused on IP than they used to be. But Universal still builds attractions not based on IPs. Disaster! is a recent example. But yes, Universal is very IP based. Heck, their ad tag line is "Ride The Movies". And yes, IPs get stale. That is why you either freshen the franchise as in MiB III, or replace the attraction, see "Back To The Future."

Maybe you need to go read what I originally wrote... I said td ACTS like all of the above... I never said he WAS all of the above... He ACTS like an immature little whiny 5 year old brat...

Which again, is why I said, idiots unfortunately have a voice on the internet.. well, cause it is true...

Oh, let me toss in here... IGNORE works wonders if any of you want TD to go away, since the mods and Steve won't kick him out...

Thanks for sharing the love. My 'daddy' passed away after a long fight with Diabetes and a Heart condition. I suppose I could ask him when I get to Heaven? All I was saying is there are other ways beside name calling.

You replied right as I was editing... I took that part out cause, well, it was too harsh and since I have no qualms with you, it didn't need to be in there.. So, sorry if that comment offended you in any way...

I hate to question the mods...but how is this guy still allowed to post here?

He adds nothing to the discussion and seems only intent on derailing threads.

God forbid people actually want to defend the things that they love when awful little trolls like you appear.

Just hit 'ignore.' Threads get derailed even further when members call out others for being trolls, brats, etc A simple click of the button would have solved all of the problems. To be honest I feel some people don't use 'ignore' just so they can pad their own individual "like" count when they call out the trolls.

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com...ar-land-cars-land-resorts-chairman-tom-staggs

Knock yourself out with the link but for those that want a summary:

- Avatarland budget between 400-500 million dollars.
-Cars Land has (obviously) been a huge success and will be used as the model going forward. They want to focus on building entire lands for properties instead of just 1 ride like in the old days.
-He hints/basically confirms Cars Land is getting cloned (Doesn't mention when or where)
-Promises bigger Lucasfilm presence in all of the parks.

I hope this comes true. Not to be pessimistic, but I really can't believe anything until ground starts moving. I wish I could, and all of these projects sound great in theory, but so have a lot of other projects. Budget cuts and value engineering will be sure to play a role in these projects.

And it pains me to say that, but that seems to be the reality of TDO today. Again, I'll be the first person to say I was wrong, but to quote Walt Disney "The best way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing"

Uni is doing, and doing a lot. TDO needs to stop talking about what they will do, and just do it already.

Or when everyone says the Forbidden Journey ride building needs to be themed. Everyone agrees with that. Or that Ripsaw Falls needs more theming. Or that Twister is terrible.
Ore ven when people just calmly and politely state, "Universal just isn't for me and my family."
