Tom Staggs drops some REAL information about the future

Took the family this summer. The Minions Mayhem ride caught them completely off guard. DW and our teenage children loved it. So much so that we bought the movie having never seen it before, which they also adored. DD-14 now has an oversized stuffed Minion in her room and several of her friends have them as well. They think Minions are cuter than a puppy.

P.S. Sorry for the thread drift but in the absence of real news from Staggs I thought it important WDW fans realize that Uni is offering a lot more than Potter. I still prefer WDW but Uni is seriously gaining ground.

my 4 year old was the same she had never seen DM, after that ride she is obsessed with minions i bought her a tshirt and a agnus doll from Universal and when she saw the Girls M&G and was wearing her new shirt she was so excited and ran to them, they loved it and so did she.
she still hasnt seen the movie but Santa has a copy for her, fantastic ride in my opinion loved the room before with the lion head and little mini minion door.

I hope you are joking. There is a wee bit more to the SW universe than Star Tours.
I understand that, but what new attractions could they do?

When I watched Attack of the Clones for the first time, I thought the scene where they are chasing after that bounty hunter flying fast between the skyscrapers of Coruscant would be an awesome Disney ride.

I wish they would do a pod racing ride. That would be a cool way to do a bike coaster. A full out simulator like mission space could work for maybe putting guests behind the controls of an x-wing.

There were blueprints posted here awhile back showing designs for a dueling coaster x-wing/tie fighter combined with a shooting game. Turned out to not be done by Disney but it had everyone pretty much psyched out if their minds. I wish they'd do something like this.

Have you experienced Dispicable me at UO? Arguably better than anything WDW has produced in the past 6 years.
Interestingly, DM is still using the motion base platforms that were installed in the building for the opening of the Hanna-Barbera ride. 23 years ago. They have been upgraded to give smoother motion over more axes of movement and parts replaced many times over, but the basics are still the same.

Even putting rides aside, an expanded Star Wars presence in DHS in the area around Star Tours lends itself easily to a number of non-ride attractions (think Hogsmeade at WWHP) like a Cantina (with an AA band!) or an Animatronic Jabba the Hutt, or a permanent, indoor setup for a modified Jedi Academy where Sounds Dangerous! is, or...

Just stopped by to see if after 15 pages anything of REAL Information was actually given...and nope. Still nothing of value from TDO.

That being said, so I can add something of substance Despicable Me was a great ride and a great example of a smaller ticket attraction that can still be good. This as well as a new nighttime show(and Spiderman Upgrades at IOA) were added this year.

Also, a thousand Butterbeers were just given away free in honor of the five millionth(!) sold. In 2011 they gave away free Butterbeer in honor of the millionth sold. One year later we have Five Million sold. What does that tell you about attendance and more importantly, guest spending...on a drink?

Also on a progress and related note. Potter actors from the movie series started filming yesterday for new theme park attractions for the Wizarding World Expansion attractions.

The 6-8 person ride simulators are pretty cool and the screen clarity is stunning. Like I said I seriously think it's better than anything that WDW has produced since EE.

Midway Mania, ST2.0? I'd take DM over both.
What's the nausea factor?

Very light in comparison to Star Tours. The motions are not very extreme and the action of them is more reaction to things coming out of the screen. Sort of like a hyped up 4D show but done much better than Shrek as the entire vehicle sections, not just the seats move. The ride system was essentially a prototype for what was Back to the Future but now is The Simpsons. Same concept with a less range of motion and the vehicles are not as separated. The actions of the vehicle are much more of a bounce than swift intense flight maneuvers.

If you can handle Star Tours you are more than fine.

DM is a little like HISTA crossed with a ride simulator. (Even down to the ray gun that "transforms" you into a minion that resembles the shrinking ray gun in HISTA.)

And, I agree, the 3D in DM is very good. Nausea factor isn't high, and there are stationary seats in the front for anyone not wanting the motion.

Others have already given some great answers but how about:

- Speeder bike through the Endor Forest (Return of the Jedi)

- Snow Speeder ride where riders harpoon AT-AT walkers (Empire Strikes Back)

- There are a dozen walk-through attractions they could create. Just walking the bridge of a Star Destroyer would make fanboys living in their Mother's Basement weep happy tears.

Well unfortunately for the Star Wars fans the only thing coming to the parks will likely be an interactive Star Wars themed merchandise tied in game such as Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom for Hollywood Studios.
