Try to charge admission on your event and see how that works out for you. Spirit summarized all of Lou's special treatment on the laughing place social media thread. Required reading for everyone
Is this on the Laughing Place website message board? Looked but couldn't find it. Any particular section?

Is Disney changing the policy or something?

You get three Fastpasses a day, split into tiers (eg 1 x E-ticket, 1 x B-ticket, and 1 x C-ticket).

At the moment there's no upcharge for rides as such, but it seems like for the future they're looking into letting you pay extra to have more than the base amount of Fastpasses, and if attractions go Fastpass only, then those who have already used up their Fastpass for a specific attraction's tier will be able to purchase a ride on another attraction in that tier for an additional upcharge.

I suspect the end game we're heading to is the following: Your base cost might be $105 to get into the park, including three Faspasses you may use for Big Thunder, Buzz and 7 Dwarfs. You then pay an extra $5 for a compulsory Fastpass to Space Mountain, $5 for Splash Mountain, and a $10 package that gives you all the Fantasyland dark rides. Possibly everything else (Carpets, Treehouse etc.) will still have regular standby lines.

Even if you decide to ride Space twice, you're only paying $25 dollars extra over regular admission but for that price will never wait in a very long line as you will always have a Fastpass, or be going to a near-enough walk-on, so you will have lots more time for shopping and dining. That's also a lot cheaper than an Express Pass at Universal too, which provides similar benefits.

Yea that really doesn't sound all that bad

I am still amazed that Disney allows this to happen. $179/person...are you freakin kidding me? They are seriously letting him do the last tour after the park closes.

The Tower event is odd, but not unprecedented. Then again, the similar event I'm aware of was for charity; I see no indication this is anything but a for-profit venture on Mongello's part. So slimey but not necessarily something anyone without a moral compass and with a cult-like following couldn't do themselves.

The tour, tho--no question he must be on TWDC payroll to do something like that so openly. Just have to trust me on this one, but TDO is very aware of all private tour operators on its property, and nobody gets to do that. Raises questions for Disney and the social media team at Celebration--but even more for the Sentinel, Fox 13 and anyone else who relies on this guy as a news commentator.

Just wanted to add to the DLP discussion that my German newspaper is reporting that it is likely that if Disney ends up with most of the new shares that it will be forced due to French share market regulations to make an offer to the other share holders to buy them all out. Just as I originally thought. Seems like this is Disney's intent behind the whole thing.

And it totally makes sense that this has been planned for a long time. This must have been the reason behind Disney taking over all the debt some time ago. I am pretty sure they had that plan laid out then already. And @ParentsOf4 analysis was quite spot on. That's why they waited until they got the really bad results for the last business year (which are not surprising).

So you really think that if all or most rides became FP only, a ticket to the park would only buy you entrance + 3 rides? Additional FP's for a charge, yes, I can see that happening- but the normal price ticket only giving you entrace + 3 rides would be ridiculous. That would be taking away what used to be free!

I think it is important to know when information is not given in a way that is impartial.

Readers or listeners need to know if the person giving it to them is being influenced by the producers of the product that is being discussed. Many of the Disney blogs are heavily influenced by Disney through fear of benefit removal.

I completely agree, but even more so when the person in question is treated as an independent commentator by the real, non-blog media

Anyone can rent out an area for a private event, and as far as I can tell, there are no restrictions about charging your guests extra to attend your private event.

That's not entirely clear-cut. As I said, I know a non-profit that did that, but they played the 501(c)(3) card. Typhoon gets rented out every year to what I believe is a for-profit event, but similar deals proposed for the shuttered PI clubs (when they were still standing) were shot down on the grounds tickets couldn't be sold. I think it largely depends on Disney's attitude toward you--which just further points out to some relationship between TWDC and Mongello.

I'm not debating that Lou doesn't get special treatment, I think it is pretty obvious that he does. But there are other groups that have arranged for these special events and have charged admission. There were several different illuminations dessert parties arranged for Epcot's 30th that charged a fee to attend. I paid around $80 to attend one.
