As for the Apple announcement...I have NEVER cared about their announcements. I have an iphone 5s because my contract expired a while ago and my previous cheap phone had died. My choices were limited and my phone choices were WAY more than I had ever had or ever needed. I liked it because it was green. I don't know how to use 1/8 of the features and it frequently p***** me off. Also, I am purposely low tech on my transactions (cash, gift cards) and jump on any breaches of security immediately. Those of you who look up my posting history may find a huge "tin foil hat" bent to my MM+ related posts so, yeah...Apple? Why are you even on a Disney message board.

ETA: my kids taught me how to turn off tracking things.

The announcements included Disney...

Yes, I am aware. I just think it is relatively minor compared to the other product announcements. My local news didn't even mention Disney, just local businesses that may accept the payment method. The market is Minneapolis/Saint Paul. They don't talk Disney.

One quickee, but anyone here see the special $199 DVC Pass for WDW? It's a four day ticket, BUT you can only do one park per day and MUST do EACH/EVERY WDW park.

Seems like desperate move to get DVCers trapped in parks that they have given up largely to me.

Your thoughts?
How many DVCers are also AP holders? Wasn't there a time when you got an AP or two for owning DVC?

Sounds like you have a 5c and not a 5s.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
The projection mapping is very well done in a very well chosen place that adds to the legacy rather than destroying it.

Circle of Life however.... playing in that scene? Really?
This hit the nail on the head. One thing my girlfriend found interesting (as a former WDW JC skipper) is that they can talk in the temple. Here the skippers take that as a little break from the constant spieling, as the echo in the temple makes it easy to hear skippers in other boats if they don't shut up.

Technology can be a great thing, especially when it's used for things like medical care.

But let's not mix that up with people needing charging stations at the MK (a place that exists to take people away from the outside world, right?) so they can charge their iPhones (boy, is it me, or does the average one last about 75 minutes of use before it needs a boost? Perhaps, that's what Apple should be working on?) and connect with life outside the berm. Many days, I'll leave my phone behind when heading to a theme park. I don't get the need to be plugged in. And I don't view it as a generational thing. I view it as an addiction. Because it is.

And, yes, I have both smart phone and tablet and use them regularly.

My question is, why does Disney want me hooked to my phone? While in WDW last year I felt far more tied to my phone than I do in real life. I got sucked into using the MDE ap instead of a simple list of reservation times jotted on a piece of paper. Not to mention using the ap to check ride stand by times! Yes I was able to switch a reservation in the park which was convenient but not worth feeling tied to my phone. And yes, I found myself scrambling for charging spots.

I don't have any trouble believing this. We had a blast in DA (and spent more than I had planned), but I was surprised to see how many shops had permanent overflow queues built that I doubt will ever be used. As someone mentioned, the one place that needs is the ice cream parlor!

(@Gabe1, I think you have Len Testa confused with Lou Mongello?)
No I don't. Been an ongoing conversation where wdw brought Len into our conversation. Go look at my, wdw' and lens comments and you'll catch up but thanks for your concern.

I don't know about APs, but when we bought and for the first nine or so years, you got a length of stay ticket for admission to all the parks. I believe it was two passes per room, but that I don't recall with any certainty.
When we bought in it was 10 years of free park passes for however many guests in the room, as many trips as we took. Best thing ever.

Say what you will about newspapers and the 1950s in media...red scare and nuclear family propaganda and all that...but come on. At least those commuter drones don't have their head in the cloud, aren't texting their mom while on a date with the love of their life, or during a movie, or at a theme park....even though I don't have a time machine and can't argue for my strong inclination that people were not really glued to newspapers to the same degree they are today glued to their smartphones, at the very least, they were processing real, hard information about the world around them. Versus today, where....well it's pretty symbolic really: we're stuck to our iPhone looking at pictures of the next one.

I don't think it's Disney trying to get people hooked on their phones it's the other way around. Everywhere you go people's faces are glued to their phone screen. In this case they are just meeting a need (or at least a desire) of the majority of guests. I don't really get it myself. I have an iPhone and it's convenient, but I don't feel the need to be on it constantly. On my last trip I rarely even looked at the app. I changed a reservation one day and looked at the standby wait times maybe once or twice. I still had a piece of paper with my ADR and FP+ reservation times, but I still like to roll "old school" and my wife loves lists. You definitely don't need to have the phone out all of the time.

I suppose it must have been an odd combination of the lure of finding the best stand by times and not realizing how often I check our schedule when it's just folded in my pocket that made me feel so tied to the iphone on our last trip. It was constantly in my hand! I think I relied on my phone as a camera as well, since I was taking it to the parks this time, why carry a camera? So that was not Disney's fault. The new FP+ seems a bit too phone dependent for my taste though. It seems like most of the tips for using the new system involve using he mobile ap.

"we're stuck to our iPhone looking at pictures of the next one"

Rather damming of society.
