OK, I just posted this on the Apple Pay thread when I noticed there's another eight page thread on Apple and ... yeah ... I just don't know what more to say.

But here's the post I dropped:

So, lemme get this straight ... but the fact that you'll be able to pay with your kewl kids Apple iPhone187 1/3 is somehow news and important to the Disney Fan Community?

Maybe I'm just special (yes, I am!), but I've never had an issue paying for anything at WDW provided I had cash, a credit card or a resort ID if I were staying at one of their overpriced resorts.

Just why should I ... should anyone not in the Cult of Jobs ... give a **** about this (yes, I am serious)?

And on the same day UNI announced its next resort hotel ...

EDIT: when did the slightly worse form of darn become a naughty word here?

But Apple said this was the greatest thing ever!! Why would they lie?

I find the Watch more relevant, which essentially has all the functionality of a MagicBand (payment, hotel room keyless entry). A FastPass+ type application with scheduled reminders, reservations, etc. seems sort of a no-brainer.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... nothing good comes from people asserting device preference and foaming at the mouth/lobbing insults (from one side or the other). Both groups are just as bad for this.

I'm not sure but I've noticed it too

Likely my fault.

What I have said, and will continue to say, is that I think most people today in the USA are far too interested in their toys and not reality. Apple is only the worst because of their smarmy we do everything better 'tude. Creating a HUGE amount of technological trash by putting out a new iPhone about every 59 days isn't doing a whole lot for making the planet a better place.

I don't care what device you're addicted to, they don't make the world better.

I don't need an Apple watch. I have a nice one. A Disney one. It tells time.

Seriously, when are we going to go with the Apple chip in your cornea?

Somewhat disappointing information re: US budgets. I also suspect that the lack of a firm opening day for DA resulted in families postponing trips to US/IOA until a later date. I really hadn't planned on any major domestic theme park vacation after next month for several years. I'll be watching theme park investment for those years and may consider Tokyo. After all the great news and reviews for these parks, I must say it is becoming more appealing.

Well, there have actually been some negative comments of late about TDL's recent (and pricey) Jungle Cruise redo. I haven't looked at videos/pics because I hope to experience it soon.

As to UNI budgets, I can tell you that one major project has seen funds slashed and others face that potentially.
I would hate to see that ... with all the momentum they have now isn't the time to take the foot off the gas pedal and go cheap.

The hotel looks nice enough, but I haven't had time to read much about it.

Fair enough, it's a bit of a generational difference in some respects and far easier to keep distance from technology in the first place than to break yourself from it once you get "sucked in". Although I don't need so much hyperbole to get your point. :p

From a Medical education/delivery perspective though, iPhones/iPads make life a hell of a lot easier/a lot less medical error. Even from a monitoring perspective the Watch is tricking the American public to wear a Halter monitor, not the worst thing on our road to Wall*E's ECV's-in-a-starship dystopian future.

Do you/have you used any sort of Smart product? Phone/tablet?

I have a watch that tells time, a camera that takes pictures, and a phone that makes and takes calls.

Sorry to hear about your family emergency. For what it's worth, most of us appreciate your contributions and the time you take to share info with us. Don't let a few bad seeds get you down.

I don't. Thanks. And the individual I referenced yesterday has apologized and it turns out there was just some very bad communication. But what can I say about the fan community ... too many people who tie their entire self worth to a BRAND. It was always Disney. But now there are the UNI crazies as well. ... It seemed purer before the Internet days. Of course back then WDW was truly amazing and UNI didn't even exist beyond a great studio tour in Hollywood. I do see myself taking a Spirited Sabbatical from posting (and likely reading) soon. I need a cleanse!

I look forward to hearing more of the story on Uni when you get the chance to share. It sounds pretty disturbing. They really looked like they were on a good run. I hope this is just a small bump in the road and not a total derailment.

I have plenty more now, but I am waiting for the OK to put it out. I don't see this as anything like a ''total derailment'' ... but it does appear to be more than a ''small bump'' ... the execs had crazy expectations for DA and it couldn't have ever delivered on what they wanted. They should just be happy with the great results they have had, but is never how this game is played.

Technology can be a great thing, especially when it's used for things like medical care.

But let's not mix that up with people needing charging stations at the MK (a place that exists to take people away from the outside world, right?) so they can charge their iPhones (boy, is it me, or does the average one last about 75 minutes of use before it needs a boost? Perhaps, that's what Apple should be working on?) and connect with life outside the berm. Many days, I'll leave my phone behind when heading to a theme park. I don't get the need to be plugged in. And I don't view it as a generational thing. I view it as an addiction. Because it is.

And, yes, I have both smart phone and tablet and use them regularly.

Well then I do agree with you here. I had no issue keeping my phone on airplane mode for 10 weeks and very occasionally keeping in touch back home. It's nice to have, but easy to set aside. The addicted ones are those who can't seem to keep the thing charged for more than half a day, I usually only charge my phone every few days...

You are right, it's not generational... I also don't get Twitter (completely off-topic) and I'm in the key demo. Heck when people try and convince me it's useful to Medical Education I role my eyes. Yes, there is a Twitter Circle-**** in the Medical field as well... I'm not kidding. Fortunately it's not so ubiquitously used in Canada as it is in the U.S. We can be grumpy about that social platform together. :)

But full-disclosure, I kind of want the Watch....

One quickee, but anyone here see the special $199 DVC Pass for WDW? It's a four day ticket, BUT you can only do one park per day and MUST do EACH/EVERY WDW park.

Seems like desperate move to get DVCers trapped in parks that they have given up largely to me.

Your thoughts?

That was the fla Res 4 play/$99 ticket in 2004. Also 1D1P then.

The problem though is when the middle-distance is advocated as something superior when much of the risks involved are still there, just without the conveniences offered by the newest.

I don't get the need to be plugged in. And I don't view it as a generational thing. I view it as an addiction. Because it is.
Similar statements were made about the proliferation of newspapers.
