OK, we finally made it. It's not 2009 and new Fantasyland, such as it is, is done. Dragged out absolutely as long as they could My question: what's going to keep the bloggers and fanbois and lifestylers going now? What project is going to hold their rapt attention? Garages at TSFKaDD? New food and wine kiosks? Seriously ... As UNI speeds ahead on multiple top of the line projects that are MAJOR in nature, what will keep the fanbois going? Retro merchandise? Poly DVC? Dole Whip beyond the MK? What? Because I see nothing that has me remotely interested.

I know you didn't ask, but Heat in six.

Oh, and congrats to the Kings for making the Stanley Cup Finals.

So, I see MAGICal Steve has a thread on long range uses of the MAGIC Bands for PhotoPass going into use tomorrow. Where are the folks who said these things are passive and can only read from a foot or two away?

I'd expect to hear some news regarding something new in a Disney park very soon. Just not a Disney park in North America. Things are heating up in Asia on multiple things.

Rainy, humid, 80 something degrees ... Yes, I sure get why people thing Florida is a great summer vacation destination.

One chapter in my tome on Mental Health and the Disney Fan Community: How Pixie Dust Destroys the Brain will be devoted to the taboo love that must not be spoken of. Yes, I am talking about fanbois and wall carpeting.

Have great Mondays ... Hope to have more meaty stuff tonight or tomorrow ... And remember, Jack's back tonight on FOX at 9.

Turn off your distortion filter. The long range capabilities of the bands have been fully known and uncontested since the bands showed up on the FCC filings years ago.

Contention has been how the technology will be applied and the differences between theoretical and business value

A Maelstrom Frozen overlay

And Id gladly take a rainy, humid, 80 something degrees day over every day we had this past winter.

I still think Monstropolis is a -poor and creatively bankrupt idea for DCA. There's no public demand, it thematically makes zero sense in Hollywood Land and it's just lazy. Hope it dies again and a better proposal takes its place.

Yup. The only possible way I can think of to connect those themes is the popularity of monster films in the 40's and 50's but that's a very loose connection. If they were going to put a Pixar property back, I think the incredibles would be the best fit since it at least takes places in the same time period as golden age hollywood (incredibles- 50's 60's/ hollywood 30's to early 60's) and would be a less jarring transition than a city filled with monsters. I'd much rather that area have a mix of properties and originals and not be a mini land but that's probably not gunna happen.

i think that's a very real problem, and arguably, could be one reason why WDW brass didn't mind this thing dragging out for a HALF A DECADE. those who are inclined to believe new fantasyland adds something of significant value could feast on each little nugget as it slugged its way through development to competition. now, even the staunchest disney advocate would have to admit that there's not much on the horizon. so what now? i'd assume the PR machine has some kind of plan to keep the lifestylers fed (no pun intended), and i'll be interested to see what it is.

also, go kings! beat the rags!

EDIT:
A Maelstrom Frozen overlay .

great point, alissa. that really will keep that segment of the fan base charged up. those who view the country-centric films and attractions as "boring."

i was just saying the other day how, in the disney of yore, it was brilliant and fantastic because epcot was a park you grew into. MK might have satiated your needs as a kid (or when you needed to revisit that childhood), but epcot was the soul. not so much anymore, and that is the biggest aspect of current WDW that bums me out.

Spirited Late Night Musings:

Anyone see Cosmos tonight? Amazing what Seth MacFarlane was able to bully FOX into. To see a cool series based on pure science, with no religious, financial or political spin thrown in, on primetime network TV deserves a standing ovation. To just talk about the realities of global warming, and not even p- it all up by calling it climate change is just so damn admirable.
Yes, it was great (as has been the whole series). Glad that MacFarlane has used his powers for the greater good (the new western excepted, I'm hearing). But really, last night's Cosmos could serve as a foundation, or at the very least the outline for a total revamp of the Energy pavilion. Perhaps Disney can ask Seth to sponsor it; seems like that's the only way they will move on things in Epcot these days -- they want someone else to foot the bill.

Flat out, the artwork sucks. And a large number of people are going to think those are kids at the bar ... wonder what braniac thought that was great art to place out there.

BTW, having been back to Trader Sam's, again I will state that with a few EPCOT exceptions, WDW's adult drinks might as well be kiddie drinks because they are so lacking in alcohol.

Anymore than two drinks at Sam's would have me severely buzzed and likely unable to walk a straight line. In other words, they're great!

Mostly true but BB, TL and tambu lounge have the best drinks(strength wise) on property.

Yep ...SSE has taken a lot of fanboi angst since its 2007 redo. But this version is pretty much as good as any prior versions. The descent has been problematic since the first one and any Imagineer will tell you that.

I'm just happy it still exists ...and I love drinking a few and then staring up and losing myself in those blue lights.
I totally agree with that statement. I am somewhat bias in my opinion that the Walter Cronkite version was the best, probably because that's the one that I saw first and repeatedly, but I was never impressed with the decent. It always seemed somewhat disconnected to me, and the current one, at least gives you something to look at while you fall down backwards on your head. I have never checked to compare, but, if I had to take a guess all those that are most adamant about how stale WDW has become, are also the same people that get all weepy when something is different from their memories.

Btw, "drinking and then staring up and losing yourself in those blue lights", sounds a little bit on the verge of insanity to me. But what do I know! o_O:joyfull:

I'm weeks behind on Cosmos. I really want to support that the show is on, but it's been given an unfortunate time slot that conflicts with Game of Thrones... and I got my priorities in check, so it's On Demand for Cosmos during the week when there's absolutely nothing else interesting to watch.

.

A Frozen ride, a Soarin update, and Avatar over the next three years sound pretty good to me.

Actually, I still remember part of the conversation in that old thread; I remember some guys did swear how the band ranges were very limited.

Really?

Thanks for setting us straight there, Phil. ... I sorta look at WDW as the cubic zirconia (so?)if we're going to talk about jewels.

Get out of Clermont much? (I kid, I kid ...)
I think that a lot of people do not realize that WDW is a victim of its own success. As an example, the most visited National Park in the USA (Great Smokey Mountains NP) has less visitation in a year than Disney Hollywood Studios. The total annual visitation of the top ten most visited National Parks is far less than the annual visitation at WDW.

And as you and others here well know, the guests at WDW come from all over the globe (often dependent on favorable monetary exchange rates and package deals). International tourism continues to grow at WDW. The real bottom line is that WDW is the leader in tourism supremacy. No other entity is even close to the visitation WDW enjoys.
