I think that a lot of people do not realize that WDW is a victim of its own success. As an example, the most visited National Park in the USA (Great Smokey Mountains NP) has less visitation in a year than Disney Hollywood Studios. The total annual visitation of the top ten most visited National Parks is far less than the annual visitation at WDW.

And as you and others here well know, the guests at WDW come from all over the globe (often dependent on favorable monetary exchange rates and package deals). International tourism continues to grow at WDW. The real bottom line is that WDW is the leader in tourism supremacy. No other entity is even close to the visitation WDW enjoys.

And that's an excuse for running the place poorly? It's not like the attendance numbers have come out of nowhere; it's been like this for years now.

That should be even more reason for them to keep improving and maintaining the parks. It's success means they definitely have the money, they're just really ******* cheap.

From the top:

To see Knott's embrace its past in a real way (no, ripping out the Calico Mine Train and then having fan merchandise events selling pins and tees and cells of it) is heartening to see. When I lived out there, I'd visit every so often, feel like there was nothing there for me and leave it for a few years when I'd repeat. Now, I look forward to visiting and the place is improving all the time. Oh, and a seasonal pass good for the rest of the year was only $84 (think that ended last week).

I know plenty of people from O-Town who liked Colglazier personally. He seemed very good at selling the whole idea of the Disney MAGIC. But he was awful at keeping his park in show condition as we know. DL has some issues now that they, frankly, didn't have before MC took charge.

I don't know that Mary Niven is so amazing, but she is very good at disguising just how tough she is. I think people find her unassuming and she has used that to survive from Cynthia Harriss's reign of destruction until today. She has also fought for projects to better DCA and gotten money that wasn't allocated. The fact Monstropolis is moving ahead has lots to do with her perseverance.

I was fortunate to grow up with Knott's and experience it when it was an open admission park. To put it in proper perspective, it started much differently from Disneyland, basically a roadside attraction, but a very elaborate one. Whereas Disneyland was about polished showmanship, I always appreciated that Knott's was much more tangible in it's approach. Where else as a kid could you put your foot on a grave and feel the heartbeat of the dead, walk through a mine to reach a gold panning operation, or simply operate a hand pump for a watering trough. With the historic vignettes, collections of antique items, and the reproduced buildings it was essentially a "museum of the weird". It's these quirky qualities that gives Knott's its unique character. I hope that the current management keeps these thoughts in mind as they work to restore the family experience.

I think it's really just a matter of perspective. For example, several years ago the MK got rid of Mr. Toad and some people felt that the attraction should have stayed at MK. Same thing for 20K and AE. At EPCOT some people lament the removal of WoM and Horizons.

For me, I always felt that Mr. Toad was nothing more than a cheap carny ride and that it degraded the entire park. 20K was a miserable ride that was hot, smelly and generally unpleasant. I liked AE but I understand why it was removed and I can live with Stitch.

WoM was a direct commercial for General Motors and it was removed and replaced with another commercial for GM. And frankly, I used to pity the poor person who first rode SE and then did Horizons back to back. Horizons was removed and replaced with a centrifuge. That wouldn't have been my first choice and I'm not at all a fan of Mission Space but I guess some people like to experience increases in their gravity.

What it all comes down to is you can't please everyone because people have very different experience bases. For example, I detest IASW. To me it looks like something my grandfather slapped together in his wood shop. I keep my mouth shut and let other people enjoy IASW. I'm not saying it's a bad ride. I just don't like it. And that's the case with most of the WDW attractions. I'm discerning enough to say that there are really just a few attractions in each park that I really enjoy. I think that is the case for many people.

And I don't do M&G, parades or fireworks but there are plenty of other things to keep me busy while those activities are in action. All of WDW is very much like a three ring circus. A lot of simultaneous activities take place all day and night. It's not too hard to find fun things to do and ignore the boring stuff.

A Frozen overlay, soarin update which will be good for one more time riding it, and avatar will not be done.. where can I get some of those blinders you wear?

A Frozen overlay of Norway is going to be one of the most popular rides in Orlando. If Soarin goes Digital with different destinations like Star Tours, it will rise the replay value of the attraction. Going to California is nice, traveling around the globe will be awesome.

3 years from now, it will be summer 2017, and Avatar will likely be open.

Because honestly, if you think there a cheap overlay of a mid-level attraction, a replacement of a film on a headliner attraction, and it scaled-down new land at a half-day park is exciting… Your standards are pretty low.

Me? My parents brought me to Disney because it was the best. I was raised to only accept the best. And what you're talking about is no where in the ballpark, vicinity, or trespassable distance of the best.

Actually, I still remember part of the conversation in that old thread; I remember some guys did swear how the band ranges were very limited.

Probably people I have on ignore for demonstrating that level of stupidity prior. I don't usually count people who are blatantly wrong and refuse to accept reality.

There will always be people who are below the line and are so far off base. You can't fix 'em and you can't let their existence rub you because they will always be out there to some degree so it's best to just move on and not look back :)

The band has two tags - one short range, one long range, and the radio transmitter. It is known

That alone does not mean it should go in Norway. In fact, it should be the opposite. Since it would be such a popular ride it should be built in an all new building/area made to handle the crowds it would receive (either in Fantasyland or DHS, take your pick). Not a small pavilion in World Showcase that would be completely filled to the brim with the line for this ride. I was at the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter back in 2010. That was a whole new area and it was completely filled. Now imagine that same kind of situation in a much smaller area with everyone wanting to ride Frozen. Waiting in line for this ride will be a hell on earth.

I was wondering the same thing. Anyone got a link, because I can never find anything on Twitter.

Fake E Cardon Walker (do I really need to keep saying "fake"?) was the first to Tweet it, as far as I know. The joke is sophomoric and sexual, and not really the kind of thing someone who wants close ties to TWDC should be posting anywhere, supposedly private or not. But to me the main point is, when you make enemies, there are always people cheering for you to fail.

Leads me to one of two conclusions. Either… You're delusional.

What time period did you think Disney was at its peak?

What time period did you think Disney was at its peak?

Early 90s. Back when Frank Wells was still alive.

Even a happy celebration on earth was pretty damn cool in 2005 when every park got something new all at once.

Eisner was being like Oprah with "and you get an attraction and you get an attraction, and you get an attraction"....

That was the last time I can remember them doing anything large-scale.
