Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
More than anything else I think the strong licensing of Star Wars products tends to underscore that additional Star Wars attractions in the parks are not needed.

The two are not linked, retail is retail and theme parks are not. Just because something is popular in retail markets does not mean it would not be a home run in a theme park either. If done right, a very weak IP could make a very strong theme park attraction. For an example Song of the South doesn't even exist to most people but Splash Mountain is immensely popular but at the same time Toy Story movies are great and so is TSMM.

With all due respect...

You are comparing "hype" of an entire themed land/attraction that debuts in two weeks to Disney hype that hasn't been announced..."yet?"

Swing and a miss...
Not really. You misunderstood.

There's hype over Diagon alley. There's also hype regarding future Uni projects because they have built a reputation of successful quality additions.

I don't see as much hype over avatar, which has been announced, because Disney has developed a track record of value engineering their additions. I said "yet" because they could prove me wrong.

No, I did not misunderstand. Just going off what you said. Thanks for your clarification.

Popular IP doesn't not mean good theme park attraction, a good creative team makes a good theme park attraction. With Pandora and Star Wars Land will they go outside the box and think of things that are never thought of before? Who knows. Disney doesn't need new or popular or big IP, they just need to take actual risks with attractions. They need to create the next gen dark ride that everyone can ride but its so amazing that it is the future. Whether it be Star Wars or Pandora or even a Princess themed ride. (more next gen than Ratatouille but even more unique and intricate than Mystic Manor).

But why does it matter to you if someone else complains?
I would, because a complain ( if its valid ) will tell me that something is WRONG with something and I should avoid or try to dodge it somehow.

If someone complains the Tower of Terror is being run like crap with no effects enabled.. do people still want to ride it ? I bet most wont until its fixed.

On the past decade or so, Disney seems to be ignoring them with the intend of "the complainers will go away" than actually fixing the problems.

hopefully the current row and push by some exects to add things to the parks, will also mean an increase in solving the long known problems in WDW.

Because they know they have a bunch of die hard fans and apologists who will come up with a reason why this is this way and surrounds itself with Yes men.

It seemed like the poster would get offended whenever criticism (even valid criticism) was pointed in Disney's direction.

That's why I suggested in order to prevent those moments in the future (and countless thread pages of nonsense), to simply ignore the "hate" and continue on.

On a company level though I agree, Disney should listen to criticism and act on it, not rely on their cushion of mommy bloggers to defend them.

I've made this same case millions of time. What makes a solid theme park attraction is allowing creatives to be creative. The best theme park works have been done as new builds, not retrofits. The best theme park works come when budgets aren't slashed. Most importantly, the best theme park attractions come unsolicited from creatives. When they're given a blank sheet of paper, that's when the best stuff comes to fruition.

Or maybe there is no hype over Avatar cause it is a boring IP which no one cares about????? Now, if they announced Star Wars in 2012, and wasn't opening it until 2017, there would be constant hype... IP matters a lot in cases such as these... If Avatar was more popular, or people cared more about it, maybe there would be much more hype... Or maybe if they were going for a revolutionary attraction mechanism instead of rebooting Soarin, then maybe there would be a lot of hype... a 3D Soarin doesn't screen excitement to me, enough to hype it constantly...
