My experience with these long lines at the entrance are just that -- at the entrance. From there on in it moves quickly.
It's been backed up through the entire queue since being unnecessarily saddled with FP+.

And the HM is shoving Guests through the front doors so quickly that you miss the Ghost Host's opening lines, PLUS the room starts stretching before the doors close.

A stretching room with open doors: another example of the famous Disney MAGIC that sets them apart from everyone else and commands premium prices.

You might want to read some of the posts on the running threads here. The medal is certainly not the only reason to race, but it's certainly part of it - a concrete proof to oneself that they did indeed do it. As far as intensity goes, it seems to me that 26.2 miles is 26.2 miles no matter where it is run, and completing that is worthy of reward. Frankly I was annoyed that my son back in his little league days got a trophy every year when I can count on one hand the number of times he even hit the ball or made a sincere effort to catch one, where others on the team worked hard to improve their skills.
Do they give out awards just for finishing the Boston Marathon?

If a runner finishes a race, how much more concrete proof do they need that they indeed finished it?

Do I think it's necessary that someone who doesn't finish it gets an award? No. But is it that big of a deal for a race in WDW? Not really.

IMO it's not about having proof of finishing the race, but having some sort of way to commemorate the achievement is nice. After all, many people who go to these races sign up for them with the goal in mind of being able to finish the thing by the time they get there... as a motivation of getting in shape (or staying there). For those of us who are seasoned runners, it's still cool to have something tangible as a momento of the event.

BTW, as I just edited my above post to say, the medals are not the only "awards..." from what I'm reading, people who place in their divisions get rewarded beyond those medals. So the medals, at that point, are really little more than a prepaid souvenir, if you prefer to think of them that way.

Assuming there is eventually anything to the rumors, closing two shows in the same corner of a park already desperately short on attractions would leave a major hole in Hollywood Studios for the duration of the construction. Sure, things will have to close eventually if Star Wars is to ever go in that area, but its really going to hurt the attraction count.

I never understood the early Star Wars rumors of building a speederbike e-ticket based on Return of the Jedi. Why would they build a massive attraction on a movie released over 30 years ago? I fully expect a Star Wars e-ticket based on the new trilogy to open at DHS in 2019(to coincide with the release of Episode IX).

You're nuts. That scene in RotJ is one of the most iconic action scenes in any movie...ever. And it lends itself perfectly to a theme park attraction.

Age doesn't matter. RotJ is probably still watched more times now than most of the movies that came out last year. It will take the new trilogy years until we see just how classic it will be. I don't see them hopping on a new attraction from the new movies anytime soon (besides maybe additions to Star Tours) unless there' some action scene that's truly amazing.

And the problem comes in when those who didn't train properly walk the entire marathon route and impede the way of those who did train. I know my husband has complained of "runners" just dead stopping right in front of him almost causing a collision, of runners running approx 100 yards and slowing to a walk at the start of the race, of runners not adhering to "runner etiquette" (slower traffic (walkers)) keep right). I think proper corralling would help -- put all walkers in the last corral. I think Disney requiring a previous half/full finish time (for corral placement) will help. I think Disney sweeping the course (if you can't maintain a 16 min per mile pace, you get swept) will help.

You're exactly right. That's one of the reasons that why my wife and I won't do the RunDisney events, they can actually be dangerous for runners. I've had it happen on numerous races elsewhere and it's really a hazard. They need to have them properly corralled and it wouldn't be an issue. It reminds me of someone who pulls outs from behind in a car and then cuts you off, yet they then drive even slower than you were going and now you're stuck.

I always tell friends that to have a great run in Orlando through theme parks without the absurd RunDisney costs, do the Dick Batchelor Run for the Children, which runs through CityWalk, Islands of Adventure, backstage areas, and Universal Studios Orlando. Most importantly, it supports Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital and not a corporation's bottom line. Universal makes no money from the event and volunteer their services for the race. It's very enjoyable. It's run in mid-January each year.

Sadly, they were doing this even before FP+.

I feel as if someone caught wind of the American idol experience closing, and wanted to increase their site views by quickly spreading a rumor that people were looking for.

Well, that would be my guess. There might have been some truth to that once upon a time.... but its more the home of an abandoned rebel base, long since past.
