Well yeah, Chapek's responsible for the Disney Vault concept that by all accounts should have disappeared years ago.
I have this gut feeling that Disney Life, the streaming service that started within the last year or so, is going to be Disney's successor to The Disney Vault. Since, unless Ultra Blu Ray becomes a smash hit, there aren't too many more new formats that we know of, Disney will have people paying a subscription to watch their films, rather than being able to buy them before they go back into the vault.

Just my speculation. Any thoughts?

Reasons why Disney didn't get Ghilbli theme park rights..deserves so much better than being a basic dark ride

Ramirez told Kotaku that he’s spoken to Hayao Miyazaki several times about having Disney build such a ride. He said he’ll continue asking “until they bar me from the studio or until he says yes!” Oh, Disney and Miyazaki-San, please say yes! Think of toys you could sell! People will run up to your stores screaming, “Take my money! Take it now!” It’s a no brainer, guys.

Maybe if this imagineer realized the true message of my neighbor Totoro rather than thinking about the money, he would realize what the story is really about. Its about two young girls trying to cope with their mother being sick and potentially dying so they create this character who protects them and keeps them safe to provide them hope in that things will get better when you believe sometimes.

I'm not sure the fragmentation and a la carte nature of the current streaming market can continue. It's the same issue as television packages, people want a few select items.

So are you saying that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was a crappy ride because it avoided the fact that Nemo was a dangerous ecoterrorist? Or that Peter Pan's Flight would be better if it addressed that we all have to grow up some day? The Seas with Nemo should make special mention of how Marlin's a grieving single father?

Not to mention Miyazaki himself made a light-hearted followup to My Neighbor Totoro with Mei having fun with one of the Catbus's kittens.

Peter Pan doesn't wow me and never has wowed me as a dark ride (unpopular opinion), the only thing remotely I enjoy is flying over London but other than that.

When it comes down to Ghibli, if anyone knew what he does and why he does what he does would know money never mattered to him, the reason he made the films he did was for the stories. Not everyone sells out for a dollar just to get a ride in Disney. Sometimes there are things more important which if Disney understood then they would finally get those rights for theme park use.

Wow, that sounds like a fun and upbeat ride for a "happy place" theme park.

Why would I want to go on Totoro: Ariel's Undersea Adventure? I don't get WDI's obsession with book report dark rides.

I may be an old softy here, but, it seems like the above scenario is much more personal and possible then either the Haunted Mansion or the Pirates. Might just be me, but, I would be sad if people couldn't easily see the difference.:(

I don't think that Disney expected Zootopia to do as well as it did and had no expectations for Jungle Book at all. I was in a Disney Store today and they only had 6 ft out for Zootopia and zero for Jungle Book. They did have about 20 feet + out for Captain America though. Also still about 35 ft. for "the force awakens". That is about half what they had just before TFA hit the screens. What amazed me about TFA is that a good portion of that space was for adult type Star Wars items.
Interestingly.. seems Zootopia definitively is popular.
Some friends of mine mentioned the art books going as "sold out" everywhere, including Amazon. (its on backorder last time I checked)
And who knows how many toys, figurines or DISNEY INFINItY related stuff are they selling.

I don't check this thread often as it just goes so fast and there's a lot of nonsense. HOWEVER, I was wondering if anyone knew if the Sports Center change where it's just SVP in studio has to do with cuts over at ESPN due to worry of subscriber loss.

That's what surprised me. They had more space out to Cars then Zootopia. I mentioned to the store manager that I would bet that very shortly they will be increasing the space for Zoo. She said, and I quote... "Why?" I replied that the movie was doing really well. She said... "Really, I didn't know that." :jawdrop: So much for people that work, even in retail, for Disney knowing anything about what is going on. :)
