The Passion of The Christ

I will not be seeing this movie...

I am Jewish and find the topic of this film to be extremely antisemetic. Gibson is creating a film strictly based upon his views, regardless of how they may alienate a large majority of society. This is just wrong...

As a result, I will NEVER see another Mel Gibson film.:(

(remember this is just my opinion)

....and the Academy Award for Best Screenplay goes to.......

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John!

I think it is going to be hard to watch the Crucifixion. I saw a clip of the whipping of Christ and it was painful to watch.

Are you talking about the part in the trailer for the movie? That was really hard for me to watch too. I saw the picture book of it and it shows a close up of Jesus feet nailed to the cross... It made me want to throw up and cry at the same time. It's really just.. gruesome. But incredibly accurate. Wow... that's all I can say... just wow

I feel ya Paul. I wish the 25th would hurry up! I hope I can see it before I move to Florida. From what I hear, tickets are going already!

:( Wish I could convince you otherwise... Jesus was Jewish as well, you know. I would never in a million years condemn a person today for what somebody did a couple millenia ago. (Millenia... the proper way to make millenium plural? I think I just made it up! ) I think the unfortunate truth is that those who would hate the Jewish people because of a movie probably already do.

And Lovecraft, I once had a priest suggest that rather than give something up for Lent you can take something on. :) (Volunteering or donating to charities or whatnot) Easier to start a good habit than break an old one, lol, and probably more beneficial.

So it's definitely NOT going to fail in fact it's going to do the complete opposite...I want to see it but I know I'll cry like a baby it's hard enough to see in the trailers...

BTW I saw Jim Caviezel (sp?) on Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight and  he is CUTE!...wow...forgive me I had a moment I'm fine now!

Oh, totally! What I'm saying is do you think Jesus would rather we sit around starving ourselves or go down to a local shelter and help people? :animwink: I'm still trying to decide what to do this year.

I agree...

I was just pointing out the more "extreme" things people do during lent...:)

I'm giving up soda pop. I did the same thing last year. Let me tell you. I had a countdown until midnight Easter. I counted off ten-nine-eight-etc. And I popped open a diet pepsi to break my fast and to celebrate not drinking soda for 40 days. The soda was flat.:brick:

Really, WOW!

The fact that so many people are supporting a project that is offensive to so many disturbs me.

I think it is important for people to understand that Gibson is indirectly hurting a lot a large population. This situation is anything but peachy.

The support shown for this movie in this thread makes me feel sick to my stomach. As a result, I am going to be smart and am no longer going to respond or read any more responses in this thread.

How is this offensive?

If they were to make a movie about Moses...would the Egyptians be offended?

I understand the concerns of many...but I think that this movie doesn't offend anyone...atleast I think it isn't meant to....

Ok, my only comment is, I'm sure it hurt alot of people when Jesus was actually crucified as well. It's history, ok? I mean, I'm German, but I don't get offended and all hurt when they make movies about the Holocaust. It happened, it's history, I didn't do it! After all, it's actually the Romans who nailed Jesus to the cross, and I don't hear them complaining! Ok, rant done... Sorry if I've offended anyone, it truly was not my intention.

I think some people are offended by it because it's a film that will inevitably inflame the hatred of or prejudice against Jews. And because it's a film directed by a huge Hollywood star, it gives some sort of perceived legitamacy of Gibson's and others view on the death of Jesus and the role, whatever it might have been, certain Jewish leaders at that time played in his death.

It's an age old battle against prejudice. And unless you're part of any group that has been historically been treated in a prejudiced or racist manner, then of course you wouldn't understand why it's offensive to that group.

This is like when Abercrombie & Fitch released those shirts with characatures of two Asians on it with the title "Wong Brothers Laundry Service. Two Wongs can make it white." Of course Abercrombie didn't find it offensive because they probably didn't have any Asians in a position to tell them it was. But they discovered otherwise because it was offensive to the people they mocked.

I frankly don't care about this film, and I neither have the inclination nor the interest to see it. However, it doesn't bother me that others here wish to see it and are excited about its release.
