The Park Formerly Known as Disney's Hollywood Studios? Yep ...

They can get rid of Great Movie Ride...as long as they bring in something of greater or equal value. It's not like that's the greatest ride of all time. It's decent and they haven't kept it up to date. I have zero emotional value invested in that ride.
Keep it...tear it down..whatever..

But...don't redo it and turn it into Imagination 2.0
I could see them closing GMR and cleaning up a few of the scenes but also shortening the ride (like Imagination). They could take the rooms with the scenes removed from the ride and make them part of a Great Movie Restaurant. Just plop down some tables and chairs right in the middle of the area where the ride vehicles passed through in a few of the show scenes. Instant money maker.

I'm not advocating for this and know it's a terrible idea, but one I could see happening. Following PhotoDave's advice to think what would be the cheapest and also make the most money.

I am in agreement that the Princess stuff shouldn't be further poured out into this park. It's already everywhere in MK and growing in Epcot. DHS doesn't need it. What it does need is a bigger Star Wars presence. It also needs more in Pixar, and something new for the Indiana Jones franchise. If they're gonna demo the show for Star Wars land, they sure as heck better bring in an Indy ride of some sort.

I hate DHS as it is. My last two visits to the park (which were free) I only rode Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller coaster and left.

I say they should put an Indy ride in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom. Gives MK a much needed new E Ticket and lets DHS use all that space solely for Star Wars.

Been thinking about this and here's what I think they *could* do...

This is going to be the Star Wars theme park and it will open in stages. SW will begin taking over around the area near Star Tours. They could move The Muppets to Epcot... I can see Imagination starring The Muppets!

I think that most of the other attractions would be up on the chopping block. A select few could be moved, for example, Toy Story Midway Mania could be moved to...

Pixar Land in the Magic Kingdom, which would replace Tomorrowland. They already have the Laugh Floor, this could replace the Buzz Lightyear attraction. They could replace the Stitch attraction with a Wall*E Robot Factory and redo the Speedway into a mini Cars land. Maybe Space Mountain could be the new Buzz Lightyear ride or the Monsters Inc ride? Unfortunately, Carousel of Progress would have to go BUT they could move it to a Progress theme pavilion at Epcot.

The only other 'big' attraction at the Studios would be the Tower of Terror. What to do with that? It's very popular... could it be moved to the MK somewhere? Could it be rethemed to a Jabba's Palace attraction where he hits the button, sending you down to the Rancor?

Anyway, just a thought of what they could possibly be up to. :)

I think Jim Henson did the Ewoks. Could they make The Muppets into an Ewok theatre?

Has Disney registered any domain names that might give a clue to the new name? I'd do it, but there are many on this board who know exactly where to find that info.

I love this park. While I feel it needs love, in a major way, I would hope that TSM, ToT, and RnRc would be kept. They are the only major draws for the park anymore.(and Fantasmic) I would be excited for a bigger Star Wars area but not for the whole park, that just seems stupid. All things should be incorporated, would love to see Marvel characters and rides, as well as Star Wars. Both do make sense, I would think as well as some of the other things that just don't fit at the other parks. I have never really been a fan of Pixar characters at MK.. Don't know why but to me it fits better at MGM/DHS. And, as far as the name change, I am a creature of habit, it is still MGM to me.

JMO, but I'd rather not see a duplication of a Cars Land attraction or area in Orlando. If many of the rumors posted on this forum are true, Disney has advanced plans just sitting on the shelf for E-ticket attractions based on the Incredibles and Monsters Inc. It can't be that challenging to supplement one or both in Pixar Place with two more C-ticket rides (e.g., something as simple as a suspended dark ride, like Peter Pan's Flight, with an "Up" theme).

Further, I believe DHS could benefit from a water-based attraction. Maybe an Indy adventure ride using something Duck trucks or an attraction utilizing the LPS tracking technology (Aquatopia).

Finally, couldn't the Fantasmic stadium be used for other shows during the day? This could offset a potential removal of LMA.

Great ideas...especially the water ride. It's Florida, it's almost always hot.

GMR : Monster's clone with Harryhausen's restaurant?
ToT : Harrison Hightower clone.
RnRC: ANY theme or IP franchise.

It wouldn't be too hard to remove "Hollywood" or "Studios" from this aformentioned park considering it often fails to re-enforce those themes in the first place.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
:( I can't. And NO, not because I "hate" the puppets (yeesh). Because Dreamfinder and Figment are a million times better, especially because they're original DISNEY characters and were created specifically for that ride.

Yes, it sure looks this way.

I mentioned this as a possibility over a year ago when talk of Star Wars getting an expanded presence and a Cars Land were being pushed for TPFKaTD-MGMS.

Well, now it appears almost a certainty that the park will be fully rebranded and renamed, yet again, within the not too distant future.

I'm hesitant to place this out because these things tend to have lives of their own and go off in many directions. And I haven't had it confirmed.

But I have had a few different folks in vastly different lines of the business tell me that the whole BS DHS moniker will be thrown away when the park changes its focus (let's face it, my Spirited bedroom sees more 'studio' type work than Disney's fourth gate).

So ... say buh-bye to the DHS name. And the entire focus of the park, which right now is more out of focus than the misshapen Roger Rabbit in the window over Hollywood and Vine.
Hmm... LucasFilm-Pixar-Muppets-Hollywood Studios? Long name, but fitting...

Joking aside, I'm surprised I didn't see this coming... Makes perfect sense. I would bet a name change would most likely be part of a 5-year expansion and rehabilitation project, if such a a massive project has actually been green-lit. If just an expansion of the Star Wars area is coming and not a park overhaul, then they wouldn't change the name of the park. What I'm getting at is, if this is true, massive work on the scale of DCA 2.0 is coming to the park formerly known as Disney-MGM Studios/Disney Hollywood Studios!

I want to start jumping and getting all excited but we have been down that depressing road of disappointment before!

Fingers crossed, but I'm not counting on it...

I know some of you have been looking for me to pontificate further on the OP and what it may/likely/does mean, and I hate disappointing anyone (even if people disappoint me on a daily basis!)

BUT ... I really have nothing more to add right now ... and I can't/won't go thru 18 pages of people talking of possible future names. I don't have the answer just more speculation.

I will say that the current moniker is largely meaningless, but that has more to do with the phenomenon of throwing anything in this park, so that it becomes just part of Dizzy World and the BRAND. It's not the only park, or even resort that suffers this affliction. DCA may look world better and have lots of quality, but it still has no focus. It's a mish-mash of theme and concepts and product. ... And we all know what EPCOT has become and even the MK.

UNI isn't immune from this, although one can argue that Diagon Alley stays truer to the 'Ride the Movies' conceit than dropping Hogsmeade into IOA.

The point being that quality or not, the idea of a focused theme park just doesn't seem as important to the players in the business as it once did.

Right now, I can argue that in O-Town the only parks that are true to their mission statements would be DAK, UNI and SW.

Universal Studios Florida has shifted from its original focus more to the one exemplified by Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Singapore. The problem though is that they draw heavily from Islands of Adventure. This is why I am not overly excited by the prospect of a third gate at Universal Orlando Resort, as so far I just expect Islands of Adventure the Third.

Actually, Hogsmeade does make sense in IoA. The theme of the park is stories and literature. Kong will actually be the first break of this theme but because it takes place on Skull Island, it still kind of fits.
