I'm sure others here in SoCal just had this happen... My iPhone just sprang to life with that horrible screeching emergency alert that tells you either North Korea launched ballistic missiles at the West Coast, or a tsunami is headed our way in 10 minutes.

Except it wasn't World War III, it was an emergency alert about dwindling electricity on the California grid and it told me to turn off all appliances and air conditioning immediately to prevent blackouts in my area.

So, like the subversive jerk that I am with a generator in the garage , I turned the AC down to 68 from 71, hit start on the dishwasher even though it's only 2/3'rds full, and turned on my big TV set and its blaring alone in the other room now.

But I'd hate to be at Disneyland in this heat! And think of all the electricity Disneyland is gulping down right now! With the D23 Expo convention requiring massive AC and electricity loads later this week.
Was enjoying a nice home made bbq'd surf and turf dinner with my wife and it freaked us both out.

Meanwhile six flags, Disney, and Universal can run giant roller coasters.

Exactly. They need to stop using the World War III Alerts or else people will begin to ignore them, then when Communist China or North Korea does attack we'll have people not knowing and missing crucial information and minutes. This evening's Attack Alert for electricity angered me so much after the scare wore off that I turned on as many appliances as I could.

I see that they've got rolling blackouts now tonight up in the Bay Area because the California grid has failed. So far they've cut the electricity to Palo Alto and Alameda County.

Meanwhile, in Anaheim this evening... 🤔

Here's your handy dandy guide to California Rolling Blackouts from the nice folks at the California Independent System Operator. We hit an Emergency Energy Alert Stage 3 this evening just after 5pm, which is what triggered the statewide World War III Attack on everyone's phones.

Y’all stay exaggerating, which is ironic.

So the power wasn't shut off in Alameda and Palo Alto and other Bay Area cities? And the California ISO didn't trigger a Stage 3 Emergency Alert this evening at 5pm and begin rolling blackouts just after 6pm? Cause the news says that is what currently is taking place.

No exaggeration there, just simple facts.

I’m referring to your diction, not the power situation we’re currently experiencing.

The message says “turn off or reduce nonessential power if health allows.” In other words, if possible. Disneyland therefore can’t shut off all the power in the park, due to safety. The park had been operating for many hours before we all got that message, but you know that already.

Let’s all read the message again.

This is the Sixth Day of official Flex Alerts. Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day so far, before a cool down into the weekend and a chance for rain here in San Diego from the tropical storm heading up Baja. This had been talked about all weekend in the news, and when people went back to work today the electricity use in California understandably went up too.

I don't think Disneyland does anything for Flex Alerts, do they? They certainly don't turn off the ornamental lights, that's for sure. Should they?

If Californians are told to raise their AC up to 78, turn off all major appliances, and not charge their electric cars while rolling blackouts purposely move through large California cities... should a theme park still be open? If so, why are decadent and luxury activities like theme parks excused but dishwashers are forbidden?

This is the first time I’ve gotten one of those alerts this week.

Sunday (yesterday) was the hottest day.

Why are dishwashers forbidden? Seriously? Use your hands and get to scrubbing the dishes with a sponge/cloth and soap. Dishes can be washed without dishwashers. We’re talking businesses using energy versus some using a dishwasher at home.

Its not that hard, get some APCs for your electronics (or a whole house generator if you can afford it), turn down your AC, wash your dishes after 9pm or before 4pm or better yet order out and not have any dishes to wash. Yes the alerts woke some people up to the situation, so what. This is now part of life, life goes on.

So California says we are suppose to buy only electric cars in the next ten years but does nothing to improve the power grid. How are we suppose to charge these cars during rolling blackouts? I think they need to bring back modern nuclear power plants. They are smaller, safer and more cost effective that other forms of power. Europe uses them.
The amount of energy used by electric cars is quite small, especially when compared to poorly designed buildings.

Um, that only potentially hurts regular people, not Disney or the government.

ETA I live in a zone that includes a hospital and a Fios building so we're exempt from intentional brownouts but I still cut back for the greater good.

Why aren't you in the top five instead of the bottom five? Your in a class of 100 and you come in 96th in your class?

We keep our AC at 81 during the day. I live in a 2nd story unit, about 1400 Sq ft. The car just drinks KWH thanks to the AZ heat.

Correct, 96th out of 100 sample of similar local homes
