It likely also helps that The Mom lives in Florida, where they have no such electricity demands or civil alert drills turning off all their appliances and raising their AC to 78 in late summer. She has no idea of the struggle.
Cant speak for @The Mom , but as a Floridian we lose power plenty of times in the summer, and sometimes for weeks at a time.

This past summer lost power for the day during a storm so had to deal with hot and humid Florida climate all day. The feels like was 108 that day for the record.

During and after Hurricane Irma we lost power and were without it for days. In the hot humid Florida summer, some people were without power for two weeks following that hurricane. The grid was so messed up that school was cancelled for a few weeks as there was no power.

I can keep rattling off tropical storm and hurricane names and how it caused for my family, friends and I to be without power or AC and dealt with the excruciating Florida summer heat and humidity however I think you get the point 😉 Floridians aren’t spared from losing power nor AC and many of us know what your “struggle” is, stop being so dramatic 🙄

Thank you for explaining this.

You’re welcome! And it doesn’t matter now. :)

I’m going in to work in a few hours and I’m dreading it. I sincerely hope you’re having a good day. :)

Thank you!! Likewise! Let’s hope we get some good rumors to bring us through this day lol. The heatwave looks like it finally ended. So there’s that. Kind of liking this weird tropical earthquake weather today.

I can agree to that! It was drizzling earlier, which I’m not happy about, but hopefully it stops. I’m enjoying my cool house before afternoon hits and it starts feeling like the 7th circle of hell (my house is over 100-years-old and we have no insulation or central heating and cooling :/ ).

Now there’s apparently a rumor about WoC being replaced. I don’t believe it for one second, unless it’s a new WoC show? Speaking of the Expo, is anyone planning to hit up the parks this weekend? Godspeed, if you are.

BTW, I do think some things were better in the 50s and was curious to hear what other people thought was better in the 50s.

I have a strong feeling that quality of food was better then. I’m sure there are facts to prove this, but I haven’t looked into it.

50's probably had better food, and I like mid-century furniture design.

The rest of their antiquated backwards ideals can stay in the 50s.

Oh no! Try to stay cool! If at all possible

I saw that WOC Rumor. I haven’t seen the original in like 9 years so it’s not something I’m too invested in.

I was planning on going to DL Sunday. Should I reconsider? Won’t everyone be at the expo at least until the late afternoon? Our Passes expired in mid August (renewed since) and haven’t been to the parks since. Don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much with this heat though. August/ September is my least favorite time at the park.

I love mid-century architecture and furniture design. Would love to fill my place up with almost nothing but mid-century inspired furniture and appliances. My stove is probably 70 or close to 70-years-old. I love it.

Agreed about the ideals and social climate. There were a lot of really messed up things going on during that time. The current social climate isn’t that great either, but I’m happy to have been born when I was born.

I haven’t seen the original in years either. I’ve mentioned this before, but WoC is overrated and just not very good. Guess I wouldn’t care if they got rid of it.

You’re right, people will be at the Expo. But there could be a chance that folks go back and forth. I’m imagining annoying crowds, but I could be wrong. It’s going to be much cooler on Sunday, and no rain! Also, you don’t want to watch the livestream of the parks panel? Isn’t that on Sunday?

Tattoos are gross and unprofessional looking. Particularly at a place like Disneyland which is supposed to take you out of the real world to somewhere cleaner and more fantasy-like.

I know the point has been made before- but I've started eating at my local In n Out with some regularity. And every time I go, I'm impressed with the staff.

Every single one is professional, courteous, and well groomed. They communicate effectively. And that place runs like a well oiled machine.

I wish I could say the same about Disneyland, but it's a night and day difference when compared to the frumpy cast members who don't understand the basics of service, and are more concerned with whether they can proudly display their anime tattoo they got when they were drunk then whether they're actually doing a good job.

For whatever it's worth to you, I do dress up a bit more when going to Disneyland. Not a suit and tie, but business casual. Disneyland is a place that ought to respect its guests and have its guests respect it.

Ay I do the same! I wear lightweight casual chinos that do remarkably well in the heat, a Brooks Brothers polo that is incredibly comfortable, and my Red Wing chukkas that are incredibly comfortable and not too hot to wear. Of course, I also avoid the place when it's 100 degrees.

While I don't think visible tattoos and outlandish hairstyles should typically be allowed for CM's- I do think there should be exceptions. If they have the tattoo/hair style because it is culturally significant or for religious reasons- I believe being allowed to display it while working the parks would actually make the place a richer cultural experience and would help Disney with their diversity/inclusion 'key' they implemented a year or so ago.

Talk about news that stops the whole world in its tracks....

We will likely never see another one like Queen Elizabeth. She was an incredible person who lived through incredible times. As a proud American I would never bow my head to her when she was living, but I have nothing but the utmost respect and awe for her and thus bow my head to her at her passing.

And my heart and prayers go out to all of our friends and allies in the United Kingdom in the days ahead. The next few days will be something the whole world will watch on TV and mourn with them.

I’m no fan of the British monarchy, or any monarchy, for that matter, but I do find the history interesting and I respected Queen Elizabeth II as a person. Today is a very sad day, indeed. I’m not British, but she was the only monarch I’ve known. I remember seeing her on television as a child. She was always there.

May she rest very well. She deserves it. God bless King Charles III.

Quoting myself because I just got done on Amazon ordering a couple UK flags to fly in the yard this next week or so in solidarity and mourning. :(

Get 'em while they're hot kids, because I was literally watching the stock of British flags disappear on Amazon as I was shopping!

FYI, Queen Elizabeth visited California in the mid 1980's. She did not go to Disneyland (who approved that itinerary?!?), but she stayed at the Annenberg Estate out in Palm Springs.

I went to London in 2018. Buckingham Palace looks better in person. I’d hate to be there now.
