The Magic Of Disney Animation closing?

Sure, but everyplace can be a "museum" if one views it with a certain mindset.
"One Man's Dream" is actually a literal museum.

It's one thing to build a fake New Orleans and tell the visitor "This is New Orleans" so that they can choose to appreciate either the reality of being in New Orleans or the experience of beholding a stylized representation of the idea of New Orleans as realized by 1960s Californian animator/architects.

It's quite another thing to put an Abraham Lincoln robot from the '60s in a glass case and tell the guests, "this is an Abraham Lincoln robot from the 1960s".

Glass cases with actual exhibits are just so incongruous to the theme park experience that I wish Disney would consider building an actual museum on property to showcase some of this stuff.

Man, I loved the animation building in its heyday, as in, when actual animation happened there. It is pretty cool to see certain movies now as an adult and recall actually watching small parts of them be created.

Sigh. For a while in the 90s it really felt like the studios had so much potential. For many years it was my dad's favorite park. I sincerely hope that Disney actually has a real plan for this property and that they get on it before I'm old enough to take my grandkids.

I poked around a bit at Spirit's posts over the past couple of days but may have missed it. Did the post suggest that Animation was closing or that One Man's Dream was closing as well?
It was in the BoD thread...

Oh, and while I hate to admit that Scarlett's oldest child -- Tommy Boi -- is right, I heard a month ago that the Animation attraction was likely closing. I'm not sure if this has to do with the rebuild or not ... I asked @wdwmagic about it and I don't believe he had heard it was closing.

And there will be another 2-3 closings happening by the start of next year. The pace is going to really pick up, and I just have no clue how they're going to get bodies into this park for more than 2-4 hours tops.

Wait wait wait...

Let me get this straight...people are upset that they are removing the Walt tribute that is currently in a park that he had zero to do with?

Oh really. Maybe it should be named "Eisner's Hollywood Studios" then.

FYI, this is how most Walt fans will react if that show is removed:

I could understand if this was in MK or even Epcot..but DHS (MGM) was Eisners baby...One Mans Dream should have never been there in the first place. No..not trolling as I do enjoy the exhibit..but I am also aware that its run its course and could have been better placed somewhere more appropriate.

All the more reason they should move it to the Magic Kingdom!

The Original version of "One Man's Dream" was appropriately located on Main Street...well The Walt Disney Story... a smaller version. It was the perfect prelude to Disney's new world....Gave the visitor an appreciation for all they were about to see...
I think One Man's Dream is very appropriate....maybe the placement is not quite right. Would it make more sense at EPCOT in a Communicore building? Where the actual exhibition could even be enlarged? EPCOT was Walt's grandest dream....Seems more appropriate.. they would have the luxury of space...even more than they have at DHS...

Who cares... I am more concerned about the parks having actual attractions... the M&Gs are responsible for the lack of things to do... Unfortunately we have allowed Disney to rest on Meet and Greets... i remember when they were building Hong Kong Disneyland and there were only a couple rides in the whole park... The Disney Company said that the people of Hong Kong were more interested in Meet and Greets and shopping and Dining experiences than actual rides....They were dead wrong...and they have been playing catch up with that park ever since...
Seems like they are trying that game here now too... and as long as the Princess m&Gs have 3 hour lines, we will get very little for actual rides... So...
I care. Characters bring me joy.

Because it's a stupid attraction based on an incredibly overrated movie that will become redundant when the Frozen ride in Norway reopens? I agree, though, Beauty and the Beast and the Little Mermaid should go, too.
OH so having a show and an attraction in two separate parks based on the same film are redundant? Tell that to Toy Story Mania and Buzz LIghtyear Space Ranger Spin, the Circle of Life Film and Festival of the Lion King, the Seas with Nemo and Friends, Turtle Talk, and Finding Nemo the musical, Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage and Enchanted Tales with Belle, and Voyage of the Little Mermaid and whatever wordy title the attraction in MK has. The sing along is a great new show and shouldn't leave anytime soon.

If this comes to pass (closing Animation and/or One Man's Dream and/or Little Mermaid), I just hope they tear down everything and improve the horrible layout of the park. Come up with a sensible plan for the park for proper guest flow and for future development -- y'know, actually have a working master plan. Would be nice if that includes a connection from the Animation Courtyard area to the RNR area so that Sunset Blvd isn't just a dead end with one way in and out.

And while they are at it -- leave room for a parade to be held. They need to have a day parade come back to the park.

I hope this rumor isn't true for Animation or One Man's Dream. I love them attractions and I'll be sad to see them go. Little Mermaid on the other hand; I'm not bored about it's closing. I just hope it helps with future development of the park.

I agree completely...this entire park design is fraught with dead ends... Seems poorly conceived from the beginning...but at this point it is impossible to correct without some major reconstruction...Hopefully if we lose some more buildings, they can correct the traffic flow in the park and make it better than ever!

I think that as the original opening day design was that the only free to walk around area would be Echo Lake and Hollywood Blvd with everything behind the archway to the right of GMR the studio tour that did work. But when the walking tour didn't work as expected and then the tram tour didn't work as expected either they attempted to change the park and routed people down paths that were never designed for free flow crowds.

I found these articles very interesting on why the park was laid out as it is http://yesterland.com/mgm-beginning.html and http://yesterland.com/backstage.html

OMD is a favorite of mine because like many here, I have a respect and admiration for Walt and the nine old men. There are things I'd hate to loose but it's past time and necessary to break some eggs to see the omelette made here. I believe not finding a new home for OMD within WDW (MK, or Epcot) would be a mistake. I'm going to trust (although it may be naive) that if they're going to close this many attractions, especially one directly honoring the legacy of Walt, that something truly worthwhile is coming.

Holding my breath and praying TDO gets this one really right!

Wasn't OMD just meant to be a temporary exhibit for Walt's 100th birthday celebration... that same one that brought the BAH to the park?
Maybe a permanent OMD at EPCOT would be a fitting place...use the space to create an even more engaging story line...really explain the significance of Walt Disney and the World's Fair connection...then step out into EPCOT... a modern take on the classic World's Fair....Seems perfect.

Touche. For the record, I found it just as obnoxious when they were doing this sort of thing to Nemo too.
