It doesn't really try to be Mexican. The only reason it has that name at all is because it is just south of the NC and SC border. South of the Border just begged to be represented by a man named Padro with I big ole sombrero!
I know; it's just fun to call it fake Mexico.

Though I still fail to see why anyone would wanna stop there.

This. I get my groceries delivered about 60% of the time. It helps in every facet of my weekday.

I'm usually too cheap... it pains me to pay more for Aldi items than I would if I went to the store myself. I actually enjoy grocery shopping usually... but Friday and Monday beat me down at work and it was rainy and I just didn't feel like it!

I've been driving by there for 36 years and only had a desire to stop once strictly to see what was on the grounds. As I said I did go to one of the stores to buy peanuts usually when I was visiting Myrtle Beach, before I found the shortcut back home, but my determination to just wave to it as I drove by intensified when the bathroom thing happened. South of the Border was a big thing back when Florida was a destination and not WDW. Roadside attractions like that were in their heyday. I would miss it if and when it is gone because it is such an established icon on I-95 plus before the days of GPS it also let you know how far away you were from the NC/SC border without having to do math.:)

At my age, going to the market is almost my only form of social activity and an excuse to get the hell out and flex a muscle or two. Someday, I may get to the point of having to have my groceries delivered and I actually am happy that type of service exists now for that very reason. However, there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of those things when it is convenient or just when we want too.

We stayed at AoA in 2 family suites in the Cars section for our week-long trip in July of ‘12, about a month after that section opened.
Interior hallways and all. The whole area was REALLY well-done to Cars...!!!!!
It was really nice for us, and we were very close to the main building. Don’t remember the bus stops bein’ too far away.
The food court was great, although we only ate there 2 times. For lunch one day I had the “Surf ‘N’ Surf Burger”...a huge crab cake sandwich with a bunch of fried shrimp piled on top...!!!!! :hungry:
But, yes, that was over 7 years ago, and the only other section open was Nemo, which opened before Cars.
No Lion King or Little Mermaid yet.
Also, not only were the room prices much lower then, I also had my 60% CM resort discount...!!! :)
Unfortunately, when we went to book it again for our June of ‘13 trip, there was a CM discount blackout, and the prices were way too high beyond that. We were plenty happy to get my discount at ASMusic, which we had stayed at before, then again (no discount, as I was no longer a CM) on our whirlwind Feb. of ‘16 Princess 5K trip...!!! :)
Bottom line...
We’d love to stay there in the Cars section again someday, but, it’s way overpriced in our opinion, and from what I’ve heard pretty crowded these days.
It sure was nice to have stayed there once, though...!!!!!

I logged on yesterday and checked the prices for their dates. I was shocked. I didn’t realize the family suites were priced the way they are. I’m trying to convince them to switch to a MK resort, but it sounds like everyone is liking the idea of extra space in the rooms, and the gondolas. 🤦‍♀️
I was trying to read reviews yesterday to show them that it’s too much walking, but surprisingly I didn’t find negative ones during my quick search. I did remind them that there is no pool slide, and there is not a full service restaurant, and that it’s a huge resort and will be crowded. A coworker of my sister’s is the one who recommended it to her. I’m going to continue to advocate for a change.

It is a great resort. A asks about it all the time and when we get to go back to it. We really loved it.

And honestly, if he has a hard time walking, he's up the creek without a paddle anyway if he doesn't get an EVC. Disney is huge. The parks are huge. The bus stops are far away from the front of the parks. Even with the best touring plan he'll be walking much more than he needs to be every day. That's going to catch up to him quickly.

So I don't know that the resort is necessarily the problem, but rather,... he needs to at least have it in his mind that EVC can be a thing for when he's done being stubborn and in pain.

I'm so freaking happy, this is so strange for me. My girlfriend is the sweetest, I GET TO FLY THE FALCON in a few weeks, school couldn't be better. Life is going good for me, let's hope it doesn't take a nose dive into the pavement

It always takes a nosedive. And then goes back into the clouds. Then takes another nosedive. Life is a roller coaster. There's no avoiding that. Hoping you can stay in the clouds for a while though!

I'm cheap and I enjoy going to the store as well. I enjoy taking A to the store too, because I think it's important for her to learn about money and how we spend it. BUT..... If we're out having fun and I need milk and a few staples and it's close to her bedtime, or if she's already down for the night and I realize I forgot something I needed for the week, grocery delivery saves me.
