We were shopping at a store today to get a gift for a 9 year old girl. Yet before we made it to the appropriate section for that gift, my wife stopped to admire (and desire) a Christmas Nutcracker figurine. A tall handsome dude. She looked at the price and put it back. I could return to that store and get it.....but if pjs and a spa certificate then it might not be needed. She HAS chosen her own gifts numerous times. So far no. She has a "women's surgery" on Dec 10th so Christmas prep takes on an urgency a little earlier than usual.

I think the Nutcracker is an excellent idea, if it's still there in the store. :)

Well, “brake fun” made for an interesting afternoon... :cyclops::hilarious:

Youngest DD wanted to go pick up the parts as she was heading out to run another errand anyway. OK, cool.
I normally pick up parts after I’ve already taken them off the car (or whatever I’m workin’ on) so I can take the old ones in for direct comparison and not end up with the wrong part.
I decided to call the parts store to make sure all the part numbers were correct before I started. I was told ooops the front brake pads were not. Went to exchange them, and because it seemed every local shade tree mechanic in our hood chose to take advantage of the great weather, it took 30+ minutes. :cyclops:

Anyway, when I finally got back, I jacked up the front passenger side and pulled the wheel. The rotor was as smooth as glass (as it looked before pulling the wheel), had no wear lip on the outer edges, and still had plenty of meat on it. :cyclops:
I then unbolted the top brake caliper bolt and loosened the bottom one to let the caliper pivot down and reveal the brake pads...they still had considerably more than half the material needed on them. :cyclops:
No way am I gonna’ change those pads...they just don’t need it.
But, I thought I would replace the rotor anyway in case it was warped (she was noticing brake vibration at higher speed braking).
Cut the top rotor box open and immediately started to chuckle (especially since I was told it was the correct part earlier - only the front pads were wrong)...!!!!! :hilarious: Slots for 5 wheel studs instead of the 6 on her wheels (plus another smaller one for a Torx retainer screw)...!!!!!!! :joyfull:
At that point, I just decided to put it all back together, go exchange out the rotors, and attack it again first thing tomorrow morning...!!! :bored:;)

But, wait, there’s more...!!!!!!! :joyfull:
I called the parts store before going to exchange the rotors to make sure they had the right parts in stock...I was assured they did.
But, when I got there I was told they didn’t have them... :cyclops:
I told her Hector just told me over the phone y’all had them in stock...she found Hector, and Hector exchanged my rotors with profuse apologies (my fault really, as I should have double-checked about the rotors after I knew the front pads were the wrong part earlier ).

Brake Fun Saturday...!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull::hilarious::joyfull:

Ready to attack it again tomorrow...!!!!! ;):)

What an aggravating day. I feel your pain--been there before (not with car parts, but with other items that were necessary for something--and were given the wrong items, or the items were on backorder ....) :banghead: We all have so little time to do additional chores on the weekend, after working all week; and it's so frustrating to waste additional time tracking down things, before you can even get started!

Me too. I've been approved to miss school for 3 consecutive days ....12/10, 12/11, and 12/12. I hope that I am a comfort on the day of her surgery and the 2 days that follow....a comfort rather than being an annoying husband. I'll just try. This is new for both of us.

I was thinking about this, and there's no way you'd be an annoying husband to her, after her surgery. Just being around is a blessing to her. The fact that you've put in to take off 3 days, already tells her that you care very much. I'm sure she'll appreciate anything you can do to assist her. You don't strike me to be the "smothering" type either--but just sensitive and smart enough to know how much attention to share. You'll be fine and she'll be fine. :) Everyone should have a person like you in their corner.

Couldn't have said this better.

My DD is currently in grad school-engineering. She looks at the methodology of teaching math currently at the current levels of early on education Has a genuine fear for these students transitioning into higher level fields that need a strong math background. Her undergrad was a double major in mathematics and statistics out of U of I. Her fear too is the struggling future students that are currently a human experiment. Her current professors are not going down that common core ramp and not likely to change at the higher level to compensate for unique districts. What will happen to these students from Districts that have gone down that fork in the road a few years from now? There is going to be a lot of struggling. :banghead:
Human experiment is a great way to put it. A whole generation of people have been abused by those who probably never taught kids or had kids.

Wish me luck lots of chopping and cooking to do today. On the menu chicken soup, cranberry sauce, Japanese stew, hummus and veggies to go with, tangerine rice, veggie soup and with luck muffins. I was hoping to get to key chains today. Oh well maybe tomorrow when I get home
Luck muffins?
Oops. Never mind. I read it as “luck muffins”, but then I realized you meant, “and with luck, muffins. “:hilarious: But if you could figure out how to make actual luck muffins, you could make a fortune!:p

Considering what they looked like in the past, this one is a masterpiece!

It's WAY better than anything I've tried before. I bought one of those kits a few years ago. My house was decorated kind of sparsely, because I kept eating the candy decorations from the packages in the kit! (Okay, that's 4 gumdrops for the roof, and 10 for Minnie. :hungry: ) Etc. . . . :hilarious:

Here's a general tidbit about the amazing gingerbread houses on WDW property --

After the holidays, they break them up and put them outdoors as food for the birds. :)

Oh my gosh!!! Now it makes sense! I actually googled "Luck muffins" and somehow thought the keychains were some sort of fortune cookie type thing, where you put a charm in one of the muffins and the person who gets that muffin wins a prize. Google had nothing on Luck Muffins, so I was confused.

Glad to know it was not just me.:hilarious:
That's so cute! Was it a kit, or did you bake the gingerbread yourself?
It was a kit from the $5 store.:)

Funny thing is, the guy sold youngest DD the correct parts, but, pulled the wrong ones off the shelf... :cyclops:
The correct front brake pads were part #MKD1159A, and he pulled #MKD1159...the correct rotors were part #41232, and he pulled #41132... :hilarious:

All in all, it still makes me chuckle more than anything, but, hopefully :cautious: ;), it’s all sorted now, and I have no more incorrect part issues... :cyclops: ;) :)

Seeing how close the part numbers were to each other, I can see how the mistake was made.
