It's just like everything else, I am not saying that all Uber drivers are a threat, but, the lack of real supervision is inviting people with less then honorable intentions. It's kind of like playing the odds. Things are not always going to happen that are bad, but, under this plan it is much more likely to happen then other more closely supervised situations. If nothing else, I've had the opportunity to observe the driving skills of Uber, and like the queen once said... "I am not amused".
Different people have different comfort levels. For me, I've been using public transit (buses, trains, commuter rails, trolleys and boats) since I was probably 12 years old. I don't drive much, and far prefer public transit. I've also taken taxis many times down through the years.
I'm still not comfortable with either Uber or Lyft yet (obviously there are many good people who work for both--it's just that I'm not sure I trust the vetting of some). We've had some high profile cases here in MA that turned me off. Again, I'm sure most drivers are decent and trying to make a living, but I'm sticking with taxis for the time being.
