It still has 1000 miles to go before it reaches land. It still could go any direction. It appears that they have given an approximate 600 miles leeway for landfall. It could still veer off and stay in the ocean, we hope.

My bro lives over in Lexington, NC, but at least he has a house, and not a tent! Maybe your daughter & family could go to a hotel for a few days?

That is one full plate of food. Bet it lasted all of 5 minutes. ;)

I made spaetzle before. Just once. That was enough.
ROFLMAO the full plate of food and the "small" bowl of spatzle was for one kid who had seconds that looked like firsts.
Making spätzle wasn't so bad before everybody went gf. It was a bit tricky getting the batter consistency just right, now it's "easier'. I may or may not make it again a few times before spring depending on how helpful they are;)

Yikes I hope it misses everybody but do they have a plan?
I haven't spoken to them since the threat became more real. I hope to be able to find out today. The house is still an enclosed shelter if need be. I'm sure that no construction will be going on during a hurricane. But, we had some pretty strong winds when they had taken a quick trip (vacation) earlier this summer and the tent remained in place. Hopefully, if it makes landfall close by, by the time it gets inland, 130 miles it will be more of a tropical storm and less of a hurricane.

I'm sure they have a plan, but, it seems that I am the only one that knows just how mule headed my daughter can be, but, I'm also sure they will do what is necessary. As I said in my reply to Figgy, they still have the house and all the work is being done on the inside so as a structure it still is available to them.

Maryland has the worst public transportation system anywhere. Most parts of the state have no public transportation system. And the parts that do either have lousy or unsafe public transportation. Seriously, if you are a small white woman, you know you do not take public transportation. It's easier to drive or Uber down to the city. The worst part is that we have lousy drivers and even worse pedestrians down there. Of course, we have lousy drivers and pedestrians everywhere in this state...

The only bright spot is that we do have the Marc train which can get us down to DC from the airport and a few other locations. That is perfectly safe and easier than driving down there.
I have a serious question... as a woman that is obviously very conscious of safety, I have to ask, how can you not trust a public transportation when you are literally surrounded by other people, but, have no problem with climbing into an Uber mobile, with a stranger, by yourself. They have virtually no checks to insure safety, you don't know the physical condition of the vehicles and they drive like they are trying to escape the law. They represent everything we ever were told by our parents concerning not accepting rides from people we don't know. It seems to me to be one of the highest risk things one could possibly do. What am I missing?

They do have background checks, and also they do require that your vehicle be of a certain age or newer. They also require pictures of the car before they hire you. Not saying everyone is legit, but I've never had an issue with uber or lyft.

As mentioned, I don't follow football, but your $15 to park at your stadium sounded very low to me. I just looked up Gillette in MA and it's $40 per car. And at the TD Garden in Boston (Celtics, Bruins) the rate if $50 for event parking ($75, if you lose your ticket . . . LOL ... :p ).

So glad I never was interested in team sports! (Then again, even if I was, I'd only take public transportation to these places--costs a fraction of the price.)

When we go to Red’s games we typically park about 6-8 blocks away.
For Bengals games I’m usually tailgating beforehand.. typically in Kentucky-cheaper parking, then we hop on a $1 bus to go to the stadium.. it’s always standing room only left by the time we get on, and we’re all packed like sardines, but it’s totally worth it! . :)
For FCC games we park about 1/4 mile away in a high school parking lot.. they have always have an athletic team collecting money.. only $5 there. I don’t know what will happen when the new stadium opens. Hopefully I’ll be able to find cheap parking somewhere in the area.

I took an Uber on Saturday. The driver was the best I’ve had!!

Asked me what music I wanted.
Had bottled water and an array of single packaged snacks.
Talked to me the whole ride- but asked if that was ok first.
Just simply Awesome!!!!

I’ve used Uber and Lyft quite a few times and never had someone like that...especially not the refreshments. I gave him a great review.. noticed that many other people gave him a similar review as well.

Meanwhile B was supposed to be home at a reasonable hour for dinner last night, but ended up working at the longest game in NFL history, and of course there are post-game duties, so it was after 11pm.

And speaking of parking, they used to give him parking passes, but apparently not anymore, so he has to park in an offsite lot and take a bus or something.

Don't care, there is no, if any, follow-up, I can imagine any number of scenario's that would be anything but safe. I know that riding any taxi service has it's risks, but, I am far more comfortable with a crowd of people then singular fend for yourself big picture. I've personally owned many vehicles in my younger days that looked good in a picture, but, could burst into flame at any moment. I also know that every day that goes by after the initial and shaky, at best, initial investigation the vehicle has more and more miles on it. The owner has to make whatever repairs that are necessary and I would guess increases the chances of putting off repairs until the last minute.

I understand that it is quite popular at the moment, but, they are so desperate for drivers right now, because they managed to not supply the promised benefits and income that if you have a pulse right now, you have a good chance of being brought into the Uber family. I'm not telling anyone what to do, I just would never suggest that my daughter, if not accompanied by someone else, use Uber. I'd even hesitate a regular Taxi company, must less Uber.

It's just like everything else, I am not saying that all Uber drivers are a threat, but, the lack of real supervision is inviting people with less then honorable intentions. It's kind of like playing the odds. Things are not always going to happen that are bad, but, under this plan it is much more likely to happen then other more closely supervised situations. If nothing else, I've had the opportunity to observe the driving skills of Uber, and like the queen once said... "I am not amused".
