So my brother was supposed to start school tomorrow. But we have a hear wave and are expecting heat indices in the 100s tomorrow, and his is one of the schools that is unairconditioned. So...no school for him tomorrow. I'm working from home tomorrow, so guess I'm keeping him here. He was actually looking forward to going back and is super disappointed.

Is it just me or are people recklessly crazy on the roads this Labor Day? Today,we saw one NJ woman who was driving alone and texting . :oops:She drove off an interstate and into a guard rail. Luckily she lived. Then I saw a couple of traditional 2 vehicle crashes as well. Although today I just took my "girls' to the outlet.....I felt grateful to make it back alive

I don't think Labor Day had anything to do with it -- happens a lot, holiday or not, unfortunately.

Best of luck to the children starting up school for the fall, and to the parents who are adjusting their own schedules for work, daycare, etc.

The only thing I don't like about the kids returning to school, concerns my usual workday morning commute. When you add kids & young adults who are unfamiliar with public transit, and it takes them forever to figure out the payment system on the bus & trains, it really slows down the commute. Sometimes I miss my train connection due to these delays. This all straightens out within a month, once everyone has figured out their routine, but man, I hate September!! :banghead:
and it doesn't get better until spring;)

Glad your safe! I wish idiots would stay off the road!

Thanks for sharing your trip! Aside from traffic and hotel issues, sounds like you had a great time.:)
It was a really good time! And really, the traffic was more annoying than it was an actual issue. That's the advantage of not really having a set plan. You don't have anywhere to be at a certain time, so you can't be late. The only time it was an issue was when we had to pick up the key to the apartment in Frankfurt. Even the rope drop at phantasialand was more of an "it would be nice to be there early" than that it was really important. The wait was 45 minutes, which we usually wouldn't do, but we REALLY wanted to ride it. We parked DS outside in the shade with DH's phone so he could play games and he was fine waiting for us. It all worked out.
The hotel thing....next time, we just need to do our research. That is the DISADVANTAGE of not having a set plan. But there was nothing so bad we couldn't deal with it for one night. It's kind of funny though....the worst hotel was the one where we actually knew we were going to stay in that town....that and Frankfurt were the 2 planned stops. And the best one was the one that was completely spontaneous....so maybe there's something to spontaneity. You don't know what will be available, but if someone cancels, you can scoop up their reservation at a great rate.
