Before I was married, I used to change my paint, throw pillows, and a few accessories way too often in my living room and bedroom. I’d just get in a mode and do it.. I actually painted myself too. It was relaxing.

It’s so crazy to me that all this new construction is going up.. $450k+ homes, all with teeny tiny yards!! I understand it in Florida, but not here.. there’s no reason to put houses on top of eachother in Ohio!
Oh they are doing that here too. Apparently, no one wants yards now so they can play on the weekends and not have to do yard work. Sorry to offend the younger guys! Condo and apartment bldg has sky-rocketed. Prices too! Houses where our DD lives are half as much as our area. It’s crazy! I am not paying $300,000 for a house. We are too close to retirement.

I don’t want to sit on my back deck and stare into someone else’s house.
We had a choice to move into a completely brand new home that was beautiful. Now the bedrooms were a tad small (not the master), but the yard was maybe 1/3 of an acre or less. Our home is in an older but not completed development where all the homes are custom as opposed to being made by one builder. The properties are bigger. We have almost an acre. That was the selling point for dh. He wanted land.

North Carolina is building like mad. If you look at road atlases from 5 years ago and compare them to now, there has been a huge population increase around all the major cities. I just wonder what will happen with your taxes with all the road construction and new developments.

It is unreal how much is happening! Go up most likely. I just hope it just doesn’t get too bad!

We want to move and have more land too.

Yeah, the only way to get new construction and a big yard is to win the lottery, or move to Kentucky. ;)
Kentucky still builds with nice land.. and reasonably priced compared to my side of the river, but I just can’t do it.😂

I have to admit though, several of my friends have crossed the river.. one family just had their new home completed.. and it’s tempting. The houses and yard are gorgeous.

I grew up with a large yard, but lived in a condo for most of my time in Florida until married..and I was fine with that, but as I was house hunting here, I realized that I wanted T to grow up as I did, with a big yard to run around in. Funny how you don’t think something is important, and then it ends up at the top of the list.

The “city” I live in was basically farmland not too long ago.. now it’s all new developments, new roads that never existed before, great schools, tons of shopping and entertainment.. and high taxes.

@93boomer

Here’s the condo popularity, and what I couldn’t believe when I was looking (especially because Greater Cincy is not an “expensive” area!)

Renovated condos downtown-

‘New-ish’ condo in the suburbs..

House, nice size, great yard, right across the river- (it’s actually closer to downtown Cincy than where I am)

Crazy to look at the comparison!!! I think a lot of areas should follow Northern Kentucky’s lead!

Oh gosh! Well I won’t be buying any of those soon. The square footage of those places is less than my house and costs 10x as much!

Thanks for this! I’m glad your kids had a great experience! I’m going to think about your comment whenever I start to doubt. It’s about having fun, improving in sports you love, and meeting and spending time with new friends. It’s a lot of time, but I don’t think it feels like a lot of time to the kids themselves. Looking back on my own youth, I know I was busy, but I’d never regret it.

I’m happy that we decided not to do the summer training with the club though, he worked with a personal trainer, but only 2-4 hours per week (minus 1 while at camp), and better times of day than the training was.. it was a great break, and T is excited for the Fall season. I’m mostly worried about my own time management 😂
I don’t think I mentioned it, but he didn’t end up trying out for a baseball team last month. I had to put my foot down there. He’ll still play baseball, but just for the regular school team, not select, at least not this upcoming year. There are kids who do select baseball and select soccer at the same time, but it’s one more night of practice that we just can’t add. Baseball is also a sport where I feel like he won’t fall behind as he would if he didn’t play competitive soccer. He’ll still work with a pitching coach over the winter, and my dad works with him a lot on baseball too.
We’re livin’ and learnin’ how to manage a calendar over here. :)
And just when you figure it out the calendar changes

Around the Raleigh, Cary, Durham area it is crazy. There is apparently a straight line road from the north to central NC. Damn Yankees, messing everything up. Taxes around here are still low, because there is a bigger population to support all the infrastructure. I swear that more money is spent around here for flowering plants, trees and rose bushes then some states spend on highways. I remember up north charity groups selling small bunches of daffodils because you never saw many of them sticking up through the snow. Here, entire interchanges are just big fields of daffodils. Many more things are available with increasing populations, however, you are stuck with the people. That is the downside.

Me either.. I just think it’s so striking to see the Kentucky houses the same or less than a renovated downtown condo, or a suburban condo.

I understand location, but the way the KY suburbs are building, they have just as many restaurants, similar shopping, and almost the same amount of entertainment as the Cincy suburbs.. plus a place like Independence is closer to the city. All of that with good square footage and land size.

I’m interested to watch what happens over the next several years. I think people are going to keep crossing the river, and prices will probably eventually get higher. It’s been happening for about 10 years already.

I’m sure there are a lot of other similar areas around the country, as a response to the growth of smaller land plots nearby .. some people who can’t or won’t spend 500+ on a home, still want a bit of land...and builders will find places to make it happen. Cities are going to keep moving farther and farther outward, I think.

I only lived in new construction in Florida.. when I moved here I wanted a 100+ year old home.. then was too scared to do it.
Couldn’t afford a brand new home where I wanted to live, bought an older one than I ever would have considered, mostly because of the yard, the newer homes all have much smaller yards here.
Sometimes I regret it. I thought I’d do all renovations right away, but that just wasn’t realistic. New homes are so much easier!.., of course they eventually need work, but at least you get exactly what you wanted at first.
Never buy a house in Mexico lol, you're going to have nightmares about renovations (most of the houses are white brick + cement, red brick + cement or reinforced concrete)

Whats so special about these condos? the prices are outrageous compared to these giant houses.

The ones downtown are in a now trendy area, an area that was listed as “the most dangerous neighborhood in America” less than a decade ago. LOL.
Just looked it up.. Ranked most dangerous in 2009, but only 24th most dangerous neighborhood in 2010, with a 1 in 14 chance of becoming a crime victim. It’s reformed/gentrified now though, for the most part.

The buildings are crazy old.. but the interiors are gorgeous. Completely open floor plans and lofts, exposed brick, huge windows.. no parking or paid parking and drug deals down the street. Who could ask for anything more! ;)
