Wait... isn't that what Walt planned for the Florida property? A little city called EPCOT?

Yes, as we all know, the original incarnation for EPCOT was to be a self-sustaining city, and to look like a city, although a much more modern concept than anything that's been built, even to this day.
After Walt passed, it was changed to a Park...bye-bye city.
You could make the argument that the CR was the original WDW tower resort, but, at least it had an intended theme as opposed to being a generic tower resort, and even holds up to this day, IMO.
Same argument could be made about the Swan and Dolphin.
My point is, why does the whole darn resort hafta' start being coverd with towers... It's not like they don't have the land to spread out, like they mostly used to.
I know why they're doing it, but, it just shows a lack of creativity and more bar lowering to me.
Again, just my opinion.

Currently waiting for Fantasmic but we’ve had a good Disney day. Brad went golfing and I did the Backstage Magic your. It was so fantastic I can’t even put it all in words right now. We also had dinner at Chefs de France and the went to Hollywood Studios and caught the tail end of an almost park wide power outage! We still were able to ride Alein Swirling Saucers, Toy Story Mania (I won), and Tower. Fun!

Wait a minute! Apples and oranges here. :jawdrop:

EPCOT was an inclusive, futuristic design. EPCOT would have been cool, if they ever had the money to build that community.

In comparison, what we're seeing now are a few tall hotel buildings thrown in here and there, and not exactly complementing the scale of the other original buildings.
You're 100% correct on this. the awful tower at Coronado's and the new towers planned for other hotels are killing the theme.

Not a fan of vegan stuff myself, but the half country chicken thing looks good!

Every review I've read has given it very high marks, for all the reasons above. Happy to hear that you had such a great dinner experience. I was only up there once -- it was called the Top of the World back when my mother and I went. You see, it wasn't until 1995 that it became the California Grill. :)

There is now a Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower...! :)

Back in late May, I was on a bus to one of the parks. The bus drove by the new construction of that hotel. I remember thinking it just looked odd and out of place (of course it was just a bunch of open metal floors and wall supports at the time--not quite as far along, as the more current construction pictures).

Interesting to note that I didn't know the direction (which roads) the bus would be taking, so I had no clue that we'd be going by that resort at all. All I know is I looked out the window at one point, and saw this tall hotel structure going up, and it was almost startling. I just couldn't make the connection between that higher building and the rest of the resort. Placed in another location, perhaps, but not "there" . . .

I just can't figure out why Disney continues to lower their bar FOR THEMSELVES, when way back in the day THEY were THE bar...?!?!?! :cyclops:
It just doesn't make sense. They were the standard to try and match or beat...now, well... "We're The Walt Disneric Company, and, well that's what we are, but, we're still the best no matter how much we lower the bar and price-gouge you because you've all been conditioned to think that, and that's the way it's gonna' be!"

Yes, I still love Disney, and always will. But, I just don't get the bar-lowering and the price gouging now, in so many ways. WTH?!?!?!

This is why we're going on another week-long Carnival cruise week after next. The first one last December was a blast, and I'm sure this one will be, too!!!
We just can't justify paying 3+ times (yes, you read that correctly) the amount for similar accommodations to hang with the greedy mouse on his boats.
I'm just soooooo disappointed in the mouse in recent years...what a shame...one step forward, maybe, then two steps back... a sad dance, that.

And, on that note ;), I bid you all a fond farewell for tonight with a pic of my tropical island paradise...!!!!! :hilarious:  ;) :)

Best photo ever!!! :joyfull: And what's funny is that it appears as though Mickey (on Brad's shirt) and Minnie are looking at each other!

P.S.: I love your EPCOT symbols t-shirt. I didn't see those back in May. Is it new? Where did you find it?!

I didn’t notice that with the Mickey, nice observation. I got my tee shirt from teepublic, so it isn’t sold in the parks.
