There is no guarantee that a plane won't drop down from the sky and hit your car either, but, in the case that you mentioned there are thing that you can do to prepare for such a situation. The possibility always exists and not every accident can be avoided, but, constant defensive driving will increase the chances of finding a way to always anticipate something like that. Example... watch the wheels on approaching cars in relation to the line in the road. It is possible to see cars drifting into your lane well before the time they get to you, but, just being aware that this is something to be cautious of can and will prevent a number of accidents.
This is very true, but sometimes things happen too fast. Crossing a line, a deer jumping in front of you, hit when turning left.
When it happened to me I didn’t have anyone in my car, thankfully. The entire side was smashed. The person who hit me was an old man.. he told the police “I was going to the CVS over there and needed to be in the far left lane”

Ummm, what?? It was an 8 lane road going east/west, the north/south is a 6 lane road... I turned left on a green arrow from the 6 lane to 8 lane.. he came out of nowhere turning right on red and crossing over 3 lanes to get to me. I was looking in front of me, not to the rear right. He smashed in the driver’s and back seat doors. Speed limit on that road is 40. Thankfully he wasn’t speeding on top of that. Neither car was driveable afterwards. I was furious.

What I don’t understand about my sister’s situation is that the woman was driving a newer Mercedes sedan... the car has capabilities to stop if an impending crash, so does my sister’s Pilot.... There’s nothing that city break support could have done for my sister, but I thought it would have stopped the other car. I guess it was because of the angle of the crash (woman hit the passenger side rear quarter panel).. that’s the only thing I can think of.

Side note- I actually debated buying a deer whistle for my car when I moved here, but I decided against it. The deer freak me out more than anything.

It is weird to see that my mom was not the only one who got hit multiple times as soon she got a new car.

Its always the new cars.

Its like other people are aholes on purpose or .. fate.. I dunno.

Just mere month after my mom got her car.. an idiot kid who had no business driving a huge pick up.. tboned her.. the kid's boss paid for everything.. but the car already lost value for the hit.

Then barely 2 months later.. a bus driver (with passagers) hit my mom square from behind. Then instead of helping my mom and seeing if she was ok. the b****tard ran away.. My mom was baffled and didn't do anything ( I blame her for this as she is extremely passive on anything).

She didn't even try to take photos of the damage or the bus in question.

Ugh. I’m so sorry for you Mom!!!

We were able to drive our car on the beach on The Outer Banks of NC. It was pretty cool to be able to take a short walk from the car to the water. :)

Next to Key West, OBX is my absolute favorite part of the USA. There’s a woman in Nags Head who sent Christmas cards to me for over 10 years... and I had only stayed in her rental twice. Such nice locals from Nags Head to Hatteras (haven’t visited south of there).

Do they still let you drive on the beach there? We haven’t been in years and it’s in our state. 🤣

This just stabbed my heart, you’re so close... GO!!

I know, we need to go back!! I don’t know why people have things in ‘their backyard’ but forget to visit them. I guess we go to FL too much!:hilarious:

It’s just so peaceful there.. I’m not sure if you can still do bonfires on the beach, but we used to surf all day...sit at night with a bonfire.. tried hang gliding... just such a beautiful place. I spent most of my time in Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, and Cape Hatteras. I want to return soon so badly, never find the time.

You’re totally right about the “backyard”... we took a trip Hocking Hills for the first time last summer, I don’t know why I didn’t go before then.. such an amazing place just a couple of hours away from me! We’ll go back this year for sure.

Speaking of Ohio.. who are the Northern Ohio peeps here?
Anyone know when schools go back in the Cleveland/Sandusky/other northern part areas?

I have to change our Cedar Point reservations.. apparently we have a Cub Scout Cub World camping weekend on those same dates.

I love Kitty Hawk and the Cape. When we have gone, we start in Wilmington-DH was born there-and work out way up the coast into VA visiting all the lighthouses. DD and SIL camped out near the beach a few years ago near the Cape.

I have friends who went to Chapel Hill and one who went to UNCW.. Wilmington is such a fun town!!! We’d all meet in Wilmington and head to one of the 3 that I mentioned. Such good memories.
Does your husband surf?

That’s a really good idea to make your way up, how long did it take with all of the stops?
T loves lighthouse and has a book about all lighthouses on the east coast.. he’d enjoy a trip like that.

No he doesn’t surf. We took a week and slowly made our way up and ended in Williamsburg VA. The lighthouses are all really cool! He would like that. Now you need to plan a trip! 😁

Good morning everyone!
It does not seem that long ago that I was one of many posters who were complaining about the cold.
Now today in Brick NJ it is predicted to reach a high of 87.
Weird, huh?
Yes, not cold anymore, but... The storms last night that came through dumped a LOT of rain. DH had to drive to Madison, WI for a training. At 7 PM, you couldn't see outside, it was coming down so hard, and the wind was whipping. So, I made him sit for a bit. He finally made it there, but told me for at least a half hour (of what is normally just under 2 hour drive) 30 MPH with the flashers. There were quite a few people pulled to the side, but the rest braved it.

And because of the storms, I didn't make it to DS's concert last night. And that was ok. Didn't make it back from DD's Tues. night concert/reception until 11PM. And it was still going when we left.

Sun is finally peaking out, but we are supposed to get hit hard again tonight. Not sure if I will make it to DS's performance tonight, either.

Must be a congested area thing. All the Wegman’s I have ever been in are regular one floor supermarkets. Normal parking lot. Guess we have more room in PA than by you?
Same with ours. There's an upstairs for seating if you've bought hot food, but it's otherwise all one level.

I love ours, although I spend way too much time trying to find stuff. :hilarious: The prices are usually pretty comparable to my closest grocery store, Safeway.
