You always have to worry about the other guy. You can be the best driver in the world, but if you ignore the ones around you, that is when trouble can happen.
Exactly...which is why I can't let DS bike alone. He just CAN'T interpret what other people are doing. He can see the person, but in his mind, he has the right of way, so that person will stop, because those are the rules. It's not that he's ignoring other people, but he can't tell what those signals mean....that a person not slowing down means they might not stop. He doesn't make the connections. So I have to be his eyes and ears and tell him what to do.

Yay!! A shame we are 2 weeks apart. We arrive on the 17th and will leave the 25th. Question, for anyone who knows. Our AP's expire on the 25th. Haven't decided if we will renew them. Hospital bills to think about even with our good insurance. We can still use them on the 25th correct?
I know! It would have been fun getting together! Have no idea about the APs but I would think you could use them the 25th.

I knocked on wood for you.:)
Almost everyone that has ever heard me tell that story says the same thing. When in public transportation I used to teach defensive driving and I would always tell that story (of course, the number of years was smaller), but, almost everyone would flinch when I would say that. If it were to happen now, I still went 54 years without one and that is a record I am proud of. My grandson just got his licence and I told him that story and challenged him to beat my record. He immediately stated that he would make it 55 years. I told him that is one contest that I am happy to lose. (It didn't occur to him yet and I would have to be 125 years old to verify that it actually happened and by then I might have a much bigger number to aim for.) :hilarious::joyfull::in pain::jawdrop:

I just googled annual passes. I love google! It says you can use your passes the day they expire.

If a drunk driver or texter crosses a double line on a two lane road with a guardrail on either side, there is no defensive driving that can prevent it.
There is no guarantee that a plane won't drop down from the sky and hit your car either, but, in the case that you mentioned there are thing that you can do to prepare for such a situation. The possibility always exists and not every accident can be avoided, but, constant defensive driving will increase the chances of finding a way to always anticipate something like that. Example... watch the wheels on approaching cars in relation to the line in the road. It is possible to see cars drifting into your lane well before the time they get to you, but, just being aware that this is something to be cautious of can and will prevent a number of accidents.

My sister’s babysitter is still out of town, so I have her kids for an hour.. my mom just called me and said that my sister was in a wreck but not to tell the kids.
No details.. brother-in-law called my mom and told her that sis called him and said “I wrecked I’m calling 911.” and hung up without saying anything else.

I’m guessing that she is ok. Hopefully it’s not bad. She literally just bought her new Pilot a day before their Disney/Florida trip. :(
Sympathy like for all of you xoxo

I'm working on a way to show her how the earth is round and casts a shadow over the moon right now. I think that's going to be my mom project for the weekend. She keeps talking about how the moon is broken whenever it's a crescent moon, and I've shown her in books but she still isn't getting that the sun doesn't disappear and the moon isn't broken. Maybe it's beyond her understanding right now, but I'm at least going to try showing her with maybe a ball and a flashlight.
Sounds like somebody needs a side trip to Kennedy Space center

I watch for that as well. I will also look at other drivers in their side mirrors to see if they are looking over to change lanes. I am definitely a defensive driver.

This is a big fear of mine with DS. He's a stickler for rules. The problem is that not everyone else is, and if he's determined that the rules should be followed, it can cause problems when someone else breaks them. He has no insight into what other people are doing. I've tried to explain to him that you have to be aware of what's going on around you and try to figure out what someone is going to do. If they are coming from a parking lot, yes, you have the right of way (on the bike), BUT, you have to watch that person....is he slowing down? Does he act like he's going to stop or does it look like he's just going to go for it? You have to adjust yourself....better to give up the right of way than be under a car! But he just can't read those situations...he can't interpret others actions, etc to tell what they might do. I can't allow him to ride his bike himself, because he can't make the necessary judgments about what he should do based on what's going on around him. And that's his thing...I shout to him to stop, or slow down, and he says "But I have the right of way!" Yes, sweetie, you do....but that won't do you any good if the other guy isn't willing to give it.
Reminds me of when I was teaching my daughter to drive. She took forever to get that concept in her head. She went by right of way and not by what might happen. If she saw a person with a bike, approaching and intersection she would think. Well I'm coming down the road in a car and he is just on a bicycle so he will be smart enough to stop and wait for me to go by. Finally after months of nagging and reminding, she on her own covered her brake and touched it mildly to make sure that the bicyclist was indeed going to wait for her. I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

My girls didn't have the same desire for driving safety that I did in spite of my preaching. They had accidents galore both when they were on my insurance, which caused me to have to pay more because it was on my policy and later when they got married. However, that time the cost increase was something that they had to deal with and their driving record improved greatly.

I'm worn out!! Today is Harry Potter Day, and they had a whole event where DD has her musical theater lessons, and this year her group did a musical about a magic school, etc, so she got to perform it again today. It was kind of fun....they had places to make your own wands, you could hold an owl, you could ride a mechanical bucking broomstick, you could play wizard's chess, etc. And you could buy tshirts with your house crest on them, and add your name. 1 Tshirt for 4 euro, 2 for 7, or 3 for 10, and 1 euro extra to add a name. So we go and order 3 Ravenclaw shirts, 2 with the kids' names on them. The guy says it's 14 Euros. I'm like....no....it's 3 shirts for 10 and he says "Yes, but you have two with a name on them". Yes....and the name is 1 euro each. "Yeah....so each shirt is 4 euro...." no....it says 3 for 10. He's standing there arguing with me and it's not even difficult math!! Finally a supervisor comes over and immediately adds it up to 12 Euros....the kid looked like he didn't get it, but ok, supervisor says. So we pay, he tells us they'll be ready in about 30 mins. We go do other things, come back after an hour and a half, get the same kid, who doesn't seem to remember us at all, and he comes back and says they aren't done yet. So I tell him....but...you said they'd be done in 30 minutes and that was an hour and a half ago! He looks confused, then asks me to write down our order again. So I did, and then we came back in 30 minutes....not done yet and the printer is down and they can't guarantee that they will get it running again, so all the people ordering now don't have to pre-pay. But we've already paid. So we come back later....still not done, but the girl writes our stuff down....again. It took 3 hours to get our tshirts that were supposed to be done in 30 minutes. Good thing we had nowhere else to be!! DS was afraid even to be sorted...he wouldn't even walk into the room with the sorting hat. Not sure what was going on there, but we had fun anyway. DD LOVES owls and was ecstatic that she got to hold one!!!

That's so cool except having to wait for the shirts. My older ds is also afraid of getting sorted, even online. He's afraid if he's not in the same house as the rest of us we won't like him any more or worse he'll get sorted into Slytherin.

I just received my winnings and can't stop looking at it https://www.minervacrafts.com/shop/...en-stretch-jersey-knit-dress-fabric-per-metre 2 meters1525290260331.pngalong with1525290349828.pngand 1525290410072.pngNext rainy day I'm going to trace out the wrap dress view B but make it sleeveless and with the bow. First I'll make a mock up in muslin and once the fir is perfect I have some lavender linen. This is going to take a while. I'm allergic to inside in nice weather:angelic: I didn't know until today they call the postal service on the other side of the pond Royal Mail until today.

Ha ha! Perfect!
When T was around that age he randomly said “A car engine is a brain.”
What?
“It’s like our brains, it controls the car and has many different jobs to do. They should have just name it Brain instead of Engine. Why did they name it an engine?”

It really is great that kids think so much.. I love curiosity and critical thinking and empathy when it’s about people..sometimes though, I wish he could accept the first 3 answers. Once I was running late dropping him off to preschool, he started on his house stuff again- I said “Bob the Builder built it”
“MOMMY! BOB the BUILDER is a CARTOON! He’s not REAL! I want to know the name of the REAL person.”

Ok T, his name is Jim. Look we’ve arrived, hurry up.

“What’s his last name? I don’t want to get out until I know his full name.”
:banghead::banghead::banghead:

But yet.. around that same timeframe, the kid asked me to go get money out of the machine that gives out free twenty dollar bills, without questioning it.:hilarious:

In defense of ATMS, some have been know to do that.
