The next one is Saturday in Baltimore. Another big one. Then the next one is what is called US Finals, which they had to qualify to get in by getting first place in a qualifying competition. That is in Virginia Beach the first weekend in May. One of the gyms teams also qualified for the Summit competition in Disney the second weekend in May. I found out yesterday that one of the girls broke her middle finger. Apparently they were working on jumps and the girls were holding hand weights. She somehow clunked her finger between the weights. Out for a few weeks. They had to get a 12 year old from the senior team(she is the only one that fits in that age group) to take her place. This girl now has 2 practices to learn the other one’s spot in that routine. Funny thing is I always tell my kid when she is acting goofy and flying allover the place in the house, “Don’t do that. You don’t want to get hurt before a competition”. I am guessing that the coaches will not have them using the weights anymore.

Oh no! So sad to see someone get hurt at any time, but especially with big competitions coming up. :(. I’m sure the coaches will rethink the weights!

Sounds like you have some exciting weekends coming up. Best of luck! :)

I only went to two camps. One when I was about a 3rd or 4th grader to Girl Scout Day camp. It was fun I guess, but my best memory of that camp is that on the last day my Great Grampa came to pick me up. They lived in Florida and had just arrived that day. Anyway, he picked me up and had a container or Kemp's (a Minnesota brand) Rocky Road Ice Cream and it was just for us. We sat in the park and ate ice cream together. It was the best!

The other camp I went to was Bible camp, it was a requirement for confirmation. I didn't really want to go because I didn't like many of the other girls from my church, they were mean girls. I got along okay with them, and I was shy so they left me alone. I just didn't like them. The camp experience was good though and I had fun. My ultimate goal at camp was to pass the swimming test. My sister was way more athletic than I was and she had failed it so I wanted to pass. And I did!

What a great memory with your grandpa! And.. Congrats on the swim test!

My mom was a SAHM, so we didn’t really do camps. We spent our time at the swim club, I think I was allowed to go with friends around age 11 or so. I did do Girl Scout camps when younger, but my mom was one of my leaders so she was always there. When I was a teen I went to a diving camp at Stanford University 3 consecutive years.. I do remember being a little nervous the first time, California was so far away from home! I loved it though, it was fun to meet people from all over the country.

My son has been begging for me to join a swim and racquet club for the past few years.. I just think it would be a waste at this point. We don’t have enough free time to make it ‘worth it’. As he gets older and our activities thin out, then we will join. Club rules are age 12 and up can go without their parents..we’ll most likely join around that time.
I’m hoping that he wants to do this overnight camp in Kentucky. He could meet people, have fun, be active..and maybe grow up with the same kids in camp. I don’t ever want him away for more than 1 week, but I know it’s a place where he’d be safe and enjoying summertime activities..ones that just can’t fit in our schedule as much.

Today is my youngest daughters birthday so I'm leaving in a few minutes to take her to lunch. Going to her place tonight for her birthday dinner (I assume her husband is making that, so wish me luck.) I only mention it because she is such a delight, at least to me, she is known as the devil lady at her work. She is a straight shooter and never fails to speak up if something is wrong and one of the only ones with the ability to actually fire people if they are not producing. Every one always thought she was the laid back one, but, I remember an incident when she was in first grade. We lived in a small town so she had the same first grade teacher as my older daughter who had preceded her by two years. My oldest was also a very good student and was admired by many. Anyway, the teacher accidentally called her by her sisters name almost constantly. Finally, according to the teacher, she stood up in class and told the teacher, "My name is Julie, my sisters name is Amy, please call me by my name. The interesting thing is that my wife and I had never heard her ever say anything about what had been happening previous and she never mentioned saying that to the teacher. All of us, including, the teacher, raise our respect for the, at the time, little one with the solid sense of worth. One of the many reasons I love her. Both achieved their own respect and no one ever called her by her sisters name again.

I finally watched The Last Jedi. All I can say, is I have not been impressed with the way the story has been played out telling the future of the original 3 Star Wars heroes.
They are pretty much ditching them to path the way to the current heroes.

I still have no idea why would they make the same dumb mistakes of putting yet another whinny baby (Kilo) when the prequel Anakin (who did the same in the perquels) was downright intolerable.

@dryerlintfan Do you have any recent photos of the Veterans Museum?

Has the weather slowed down the work?

This picture was last September when they were almost done with the building

But as far as I read on Facebook, they're done with the building itself and they're working on the exhibit halls now. So the weather shouldn't impact anything more than landscaping! Still no word on when it will actually open though, LOL
