We've had a weird few days here so I can show you what we have tripped across in Northern IL the last few days.

First up....

A few weeks ago we were speaking of the programs on printers allowing you to print 3D Steamboat Willie

Here is some more pr-programmed.

Those printers are more advanced. Looking at the texture.. These use "sand". Which uses laser. Very different kind of 3d printer. (the special ones cost 10,000 USD upwards vs the plastic vinyl ones that cost less than 500 USD)

We have ordered some of the sand sculptures from a 3d company when ds was doing a 3d printing course. They don't feel too good on the hands but they look good. Now he is happy with his inexpensive 3d printer and little dd is happy with the over abundance of little plastic Stitch's. (insert green smiley). We are now up to 6.

Yep. We'll come by you and Stay in The Liberty Hotel aka former Charles Street Jail. ;)

Have to love a prison where the drunk tank is converted to a lounge called the Clink!

Have you ever stayed there?

So cool they even left the catwalks up

No and I never would. Cute concept to those who don't live in the area and don't know the horrible history of that place. I can't make light of it; lives destroyed. I'll just leave it there.

The official name was National Legion of Decency. It was supposed to be the guideline that the Catholic church used. I am a lot older then you, so perhaps it was on it's way out by the time you got to the age that it mattered.

Regarding your response above to @donaldtoo , I read that it was around through (at least part of) the 1980s. Guess it just mattered what school or church you went to as a kid--whether it was ever mentioned.

The only real issue I have with the Swalphin is you can see it from Epcot. :cyclops: Although the architecture is distinct, it just doesn't appeal to me.
The Contemporary was very unique for it's time, and still is to me...sliding the modular rooms in like desk drawers, and all. :geek:
BLT and the other addition you mentioned can't hold a candle to it.
Disney just doesn't really care about resort theming (among other things) anymore. Take that giant hunk of junk multi-story DVC POS they threw up at GF.
And, still not impressed with the curved curtain wall proposal at Uni. And although I realize Uni is a whole different game, it still looks like it belongs in Vegas.
Different strokes, and all...

I love Swolfin, but always thought the huge cement swan and dolphin on the tops of those hotels were stupid!!

I am old enough to remember the transitions in the MK. I'm also old enough to remember the forced perspective of Main Street to the castle with all the Cherry Trees giving the illusion of the castle off in the distance. I now look down main street and see a castle at the end of asphalt and concrete plopped down. It is a very different view from the castle and main street that I grew up with.

I am so happy Disneyland has kept that and the trees for that forced perspective, all that imagineering is not lost. The tea cups were fully landscaped at one time from Tomorrowland, even with the original Mickey's Birthday Party before you were born. The speedway was reduced in size. That is the thing, while some of us golden oldies know how the park was designed and others are just use to what it has evolved into 'cause they were not around for the original separation of design of the lands. I go back to the days of the old Frontierland and the quaint train station that doesn't exist at all anymore now a mere staircase. My grand-kids of the future will never see the cute squirt tiki's near the Jungle Cruise. The immersive details are being knocked off one by one. The shade and trees of yesteryear are mulch. Basically what I am saying is the Always to someone born in the 90s is very different than the always for those of us that were in the parks in the 70s and 80s.

Amen to all the above.

I have been up since 2:30 am. One of those nights. I decided to watch the gold medal curling game between the USA and Sweden. It was amazing. I can't believe that I actually enjoy watching curling.

I find that with the Olympics coverage, I've been watching all kinds of things that I normally would not bother with. Haven't watched curling, but have enjoyed things like snowboarding, speed skating and biathlon. (I also watch my regular favorites like figure skating, bobsleds, and Giant Slalom and Super G downhill skiing at breakneck speeds!!)

It was probably more that it's influence had begun to fall to the wayside. During the 60's attitudes began to change dramatically and until recently we decided to think for ourselves. It was there, but, not really relevant. I'm not really sure of it's timeline probably because I never was concerned about it myself at a very early age, however, my parents were.

I have streamed a lot on the computer. There seem to be more offerings and live offerings on their website than on tv.
