Wow that is quite a crowd. Was that in Chicago?

It is. Grant Park. It was cold but not freezing cold today so that helped. Actually last year was really warm for January. I didn't go last year but actually my DS did as he was in town for convention. It is a very kumbiya
event. Everyone was happy and positive. Very nice. :inlove: A local florist passed out flowers saying the flowers are for everyone but we are here for our girls. So sweet. Such a nice day. It was impressive.

We went to the Open House for one of the high schools yesterday. I don't think DD will change her mind about where she wants to go, and this school didn't have the programs she wants to do, but it was fun and DS needed to start looking anyway...he has to make the choice next year.
So the kids got to paint lampshades in the art room, do an economy quiz, test out different sports, make bubble solution, make ice cream, and do a quiz about food from various countries, among other things. There were brain puzzels in the math room, and a geography challenge in the "gymnasium" classroom. (gymnasium is the highest level of school, plus Latin and Greek.) I didn't get pictures of that challenge, because DS slipped and fell as he was running back and forth...there was a case with 5 objects in it and each kid had to open a case, take out one item, figure out where it belonged and place it on the map, then go get the next item. He had placed the Canadian Flag and the Spanish flag and had some sort of South American mask thing when he was running back and slipped and fell. He was fine, but he wouldn't move at first and he was screaming bloody murder. Other than that, they had a fun day.

DD spinning plates in the Circus section of the sport department. You could also learn to juggle, walk on a barrel or a ball, and maybe stilts or something? DD was only interested in the plates. Then they had badminton, field hockey, and an obstacle course in the other gym, which last year DS wouldn't do most of it and this year DH said he did everything. (I was with DD in the music room when he did the course)

Playing some sort of math game in the Math department. This was also the room with the brain puzzles, like "The impossible square" and some things where you had to draw one continuous line, going through every white square, starting at the blue one, avoiding the red squares, and you could only go through each sqaure once and could not cross lines.

Basically the idea is to see what high school will be like and what a particular high school might have to offer. I could see DS at this high school eventually, but not yet...he is still WAY too young, developmentally. But he really loves the math games, and the economy quiz, and the gymnasium stuff...so I could see him doing that...maybe.
Next week we go to the open house for the one DD hated last year. We'll see if her opinion changes.

Now you know why I want to get away so bad. Every year this happens, not a shutdown but just wondering if they will pass a budget which is in October. Morons all of them. I have no faith anymore (for the country not for me).
Sorry about the shutdown. Personally I think the lawmakers should go without pay. But that is all I will say about that in a chit chat thread.

That is really great how the schools have an open house like that. Funny though how when we think of high school it is for those in 9th grade and above and there it is from middle school or junior high age. What is the last grade there? Looks like the kids had a blast, but for the fall. DS has to leave his wonderful school in a couple of years? Oh that is sad.

Many I'm sure won't care, but to those who might be interested.....I've been a Philadelphia Eagles fan since age 10. I recently downloaded an app for Philadelphia's ABC affiliate 6ABC. They just posted a video of Vikings fans who decided to dress in purple and gather next to the Rocky statue on the front steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum. I'll post a 30 second video just below.
