@RedNoseMickey I clicked on your user name under the photo of Mickey w/ a red nose....'cause I noticed your phrase : "just when I am ON HOLIDAYS ..." Sure enough you are British. Very cool!
I'll never forget the 1st time I was a tourist across the pond in Ireland. A friendly Irishman asked me: "How long is your HOLIDAY?" I was confused but assured him I was not celebrating any "holiday"....I was on vacation! :angelic:
Between here and watching sewing videos from the other side of the pond I've started saying things such as jumper for sweater, going on holiday, pants for unmentionables, pint for beer bum for bottem

I am actually Dutch but the Brits have adopted me.
There are a couple of difference between British English and American English and it gets even more confusing when you throw in Australian. Since London is now my home I try to stick to British English I just pronounce everything with an American accent.;)
you would have thought them yanks invented the language and not the British  ;)

I kind of got in trouble for that yesterday. I went to the VA eye clinic to have my vision tested. More or less one year check-up, but, I had noticed that things seemed a little blurry. Looked in my right eye and told me that the cataract in that eye has grown and now is in my field of vision.

Some of you that have been here awhile might remember that I had my left eye done about two to three years ago. So to me it wasn't a big deal. For all of you that think that at the VA you wait in line forever for medical care, let me give you a time line. I called and made an appointment about two weeks ago. I didn't feel that there was any rush so two weeks was fine. So I go in Monday to get my eye exam and my surgery is scheduled for Thursday morning. That seems quick to me.

Anyway, I posted on Facebook that I was going to have cataract surgery and made it into a mildly comical rant on aging. About an hour later I get a text from my Daughter asking... "how come the only way I ever know that you are having some medical situation, I have to read it on Facebook?" What could I say, I wasn't taking it all that seriously. The only thing traumatic about that is that I have to be at the Hospital at 6am and it is 23 miles away. It's worse for my other daughter that has to get up at 4 to get here, pick me up and take me to Durham. I felt bad, that she thought I was leaving her out of the loop, but, more upset because others knew about it before she did. I was going to talk to her about it later, but, she was at work and I thought I should wait. It wasn't like I was having a heart attack or anything. Just can't make people happy, but, I love the girl and know she just cares about my health. So I'm not going to complain.
Good luck

Starbucks is my achilles heel. I have to control that otherwise I'd be there every morning. I have one of those Starbucks cards. I reload it once a month. Once it's gone, it's gone. I do a pretty good job of controlling it. Usually, I don't go unless I'm out of breakfast food or I'm starting with a migraine, which has improved since going on my new meds. Sometimes, those chai tea lattes plus two Excedrin migraine are the only thing that will make my migraines go away. Don't ask me why.

One month I had to refill early because I had a migraine and was desperate, but lately I've been refilling less often than once per month, which is even better.
I have the Starbucks app so I can save for free drinks but, like you, I try and limit how often I go. When I first moved to London I went to Starbucks every day until I did the math and realized how much money it was actually costing me per month.

When feeling the need for Starbuck I brew my own to save a few bucks:hilarious: My dh has a small coffee maker at work to save money

Interesting. One of my family members when a migraine strikes only relief is Excedrin and Coke. Wonder if it is that combo of Excedrin and caffeine? Aspirin nor Advil helped, Tylenol always seemed to make the Migraines worse but were the Doc's first suggestion.

Starbucks for me had been rare. Over the last year+ it has become my daily treat. I try not to think about the weekly cost even though it is a simple coffee not a $6 specialty drink, about $2.50. This too shall pass but for now it is my special thing from me to myself. Oddly I've had one Starbucks coffee in Disney since they moved into the parks. Go Figure!
I had one in 13 during the soft opening(free) and 1 or 2 last trip. Now UNI is a different story, not everyday different but I must have had at least 4.

So, funny story.... When I was stationed at fort Bragg they had run out of housing on post so they put me up in this apartment right outside the gate. It was glorious, because I had a garden tub, and a couple spare rooms for my friends to stay in when they came to visit.

But I had a lot of trouble with the clothes dryer. It worked okay when I first got in, but grew less and less effective. Soon, I was having to dry a load of laundry six or seven hours before it would actually get dry. So I finally broke down and called maintenance who said they could come check it out the next day while I was at work.

So I get home from work, and on top of the dryer is a cake if dryer lint that was, I kid you not, at least six inches thick, and a note from the maintenance guy that said "you're lucky the building didn't catch fire. Please empty the dryer lint after every three loads" :hilarious::hilarious: I had only ever done laundry at the laundromat before so I had no idea there even was a dryer lint trap :banghead::banghead:

Seriously I did not do much to speak of today beyond sitting, sitting and listening to conversation, actually my Mom talking non stop and my niece and I listening. You'd think I wouldn't be so tired???

Since I opened my laptop I have taken at least 3 late nite power snoozes that I am at least aware of. There are ONLY 9 pages of new posts I going to try and read. Maybe the power naps will help. :joyfull: Who knew sitting and listening zapped that much energy.

There was a big recall in the UK (not sure if it was worldwide) of driers that would catch fire. Millions of units were converted including the ones we have at home. There were even a few house fires caused by faulty machines in the UK. scary stuff.
