Thank you both for the input. The electrical issue down the road has made me wary as both my original Oldsmobile and my current one had that issue. Not to the extent that Minnie's did, but they've had that issue. That being said, I'm buying new, including newest model year, so hopefully that issue will have been corrected, and it will still be under warrenty if it does pop up within the first few years. It's just very hard to pass up $3200 in free money.

Not looking at Kias. My cousin had one and it didn't last her five years. Looking primarily at Toyotas, Hyundais, and Chevys.
Cash is king as they say.

Speaking of traveling, I am reading a book I got for my birthday about world wonders and there are some things in it that remind me of places you went on your last trip with your mom and your sister. I loved reading about the mines and places you visited, and I'd really like to look some things up. Could you PM me a list or post a list here with the city and site names of the places you visited on that trip, please? Nothing fancy, just the names of the places so I can google them? Thank you!

Ah, yeah, sorry...I don't use my phone. I am always on the laptop because I hate typing on my phone. It takes too long. So I can't help with that. On the laptop, it gives the page number...it says "1...6938" and if you click on the " ..." it asks what page you want to go to.

That must just be on a mobile device. I don't have that on the laptop. I do have a drop down menu with the " forums" button, but I never use any of that stuff so I ignore that. It's so much easier just to click on the thread I want in the main list. It records where I was in each thread the last time I visited, so it takes me right to the last read post there and I can just start from where I left off. Easy-peezy.

Thank you!!! I hadn't even noticed those things were missing until someone said it...I rarely look. But it's nice to know HOW the next time I want to!

My family was always a chevy family. My first car was a Malibu...granted it was the same age as I am, and they've made a lot of changes since then, but I loved that car. It did have an issue accelerating, so if that's a concern, I would test that and make sure they've fixed that in the last 40 years. My mom drove a Lumina and loved it so much that she got another one when it was time to get rid of the old one. She drove her cars for YEARS though, and they always held up. We had a Cavelier for a while and while it was good with feul efficiency, it did not have much space. We'd go on vacation and I would be crammed into a tiny space in the back seat with coolers and suitcases so I couldn't really move, and my brother was tall so my mom let him sit in the front and push the seat ALL the way back so I was really boxed in and my knees touched the back of his seat. If you are wanting to schlepp friends around with you, I'd go for something bigger than the Cavelier. It was uncomfortable for me at 13 years old when I was only 5 foot 4 and about 130 lbs. The Lumina was much better. More leg room both front seat and back, so my brother didn't have to push the seat quite so far back. My mom bought a basically new car...I don't remember what they call it, but when a car has been retired from a rental agency, they have very few miles on them, but they drastically reduce the price. So it was almost like new...only a year or so old, and low mileage, but it was soooo much cheaper than getting a brand new one off the lot. You might look into that?

OMG, I laughed so hard that I had a coughing fit. I'm so tired of being sick!!

Oh that looks great! It kind of reminds me of Old Chicago. We ate at Old Chicago when I was back for dad's funeral and that was the best burger I have ever had. So so good. I've never heard of Ale House, but that burger looked fab!
It’s actually Millers Ale House. I’ve ate at one near my MIL but this one is newer. Awesome. Real burgers not cooked frozen discs.

The cold going around in my neck of the woods seems to be lasting close to 3 weeks with its symptoms.(I prefer blue eek emoji too.)My dh says his voice still does not sound the same to him from all the coughing he had gone through. I hope you get over yours soon.
Thanks. I've had this for about a week and a half now, and yes, I still sound like a frog. I think I'll skip choir tomorrow. The director is sick, too, so everyone is just branching off for sectionals and practicing alone, and then after an hour, they are having a the New Years "borrel" ...basically just a little get together with a few snacks and drinks. I won't be missing much by not going. I just took a nice warm bath to clear out my sinuses and it was soooo nice. I feel bad that I gave it to the entire family though. The kids are supposed to go back to school tomorrow, DD has a field trip to the Rijksmuseum, and I'm supposed to work. DS didn't want vacation in the first place...if he can't go to school, he'll be upset, and I won't be able to go to work. And I'd hate for DD to miss her field trip although she doesn't seem too upset about it. But, I guess if she's sick and is going to miss something, I'd rather it be that than the open house days for the high schools. We can always go to the Rijksmuseum on our own, but the open house days are only once a year, starting on the 20th, so at least she'll have time to get better before those.
Did you get the crud, too, or just your hubby?

Sports are what they are known for and yesterday and today is Football playoffs so football it is.
Having TVs in restaurants is rather foreign to me, I think it is an American thing. European culture to eating out is different from the US as in going out to eat is a social event where you take your time. An average dinner out takes about 2 hours and is the main event of the evening.

I am sorry you are still feeling unwell, I hope you recover quickly.
Het Rijksmuseum is very interesting so I hope that DD gets to go.

The TVs are normally only in a sports bar and grill place...it's still a social event, but not necessarily with your family or close friends...people go and watch whatever sports event is happening and they want to watch it with other fans. A lot of times, people meet other fans at those places and become friends because of it. My best friend's dad was a regular at Old Chicago in their town and had his own stool...the place where he always sat and everyone knew that was his seat. When he passed (brain cancer), they held a memorial there so my best friend could meet all his friends there, and everyone could share stories about him. You wouldn't see the TVs in just any restaurant, though.

No just him and oldest dd got it. I attribute my not getting it because of my regimented vitamin taking. :D I made sure the other kids stayed away from dh, but oldest ended up falling asleep in my bed on his side when he was at the height of his illness. Lo and behold a few days later she was ill.

That reminds me @Songbird76 and @RedNoseMickey. I have a question about sports in The Netherlands. We have a relatively new cable station here called The Olympic Channel. It is really cool because we can finally watch sports they never show on regular tv here anymore like bobsled, luge, speedskating, biathlon, etc. Speedskating US Olympic trials were in the other night and the commentators were saying that speed skating is a huge and popular sport in The Netherlands were everyone goes crazy for it. Is this true?

While my brother was still here we went to Madurodam. It is a miniature version of the Netherlands with all the famous buildings done to scale, with a view interactive bits.
Among others there is a beautiful version of the St.Jan.

There were several games for kids to play, seeing how heavy cheese is and matching art work with Dutch artists. You could also "fly" over the Netherlands in a simulator. 20180107_181912.jpg

It is very popular and usually the Dutch do well in skating. I am not sure if I would say people go crazy for it, maybe during the Olympics or World championships.

In case I'm not driving everyone crazy enough with this topic...

Has anyone had any experience with Chevys?

I'm thinking I might be going that direction. My dad, at first, was very much on the path of "Oh, just pay $1500 and repair your car" until my mom and I remembered that there is a another repair that is needed before it goes through emissions testing again; otherwise, the car will fair the emissions testing, and that repair will cost $1100. So the car needs $2600 worth of repairs and is worth, at most, $1300, which I told my dad is not worth the investment. He is now more on board with me getting a new car. So much, in fact, that he is willing to give me the points on their GM credit card, which amounts to $3200. Since they aren't planning on replacing their cars for another 4-5 years.

BUT...I told him flat out that if I get a GM car, it will most likely be a Chevy, since they seem to have more features at a lower cost, and I'm looking at midsize sedans, and the Chevy Malibu gets better reviews than the Buick Regal.

I'm curious though; I've heard good things about Hyundais, Toyotas...any experiences with Chevys?
I had a Cavalier for years, it was a good Chevy. (Until my ex wrecked it.)
