Sympathy like. DD is doing poms. So, right off the bat, the coaches say if you want to plan a summer vacation, do it during the 2 weeks of "no contact". Of course, first week of no contact is mandatory band camp. During that week the kids learn marching, the field formations for pregame and halftime, parade, and putting it all together with the music. Second week is incoming freshman orientation, I actually have a work meeting to gear up for the upcoming school year, and then she has her official audition for poms Thursday and Friday. And good bye summer.

Help me along. Doesn't Pom's and Marching Band conflict?

Yeah, my daughter wasn't reading chapter books that early, but she was starting to read and they didn't want to help her because "they don't do that until 1st grade." Um....so you'd rather she be bored out of her mind than to give her material at her level? I understand that not every kid is there yet at 4. (we start school here at 4) And I agree this push to teach kids to read and do math so early is nuts...not every kid is ready for it at that age and they still need to PLAY. I get that...but at least offer material that's on that child's level. If a kid is behind, you offer them help and lower level material, so why not with kids who are faster learners? That school closed and we went to the school where the kids go now and by that time DD was starting 1st grade. They put her right into advanced reading, so it was good.

Sounds like your language teacher was feeling threatened. Incompetence?

Yea, don't get me started on keeping people who excel down in the name of salvaging the self esteem, or whatever, of those who don't. With the exception of being on the Principals List a few times (which, the first time I told my folks about it they thought I was in trouble  :hilarious:) in junior high, I never really excelled academically. Did very well on the varsity soccer team and in drafting class my junior and senior years in high school, though...! ;)
I never have, nor ever will, harbor any resentment of those who are more intelligent, in whatever way, than I am. We are all dealt a different hand, and, hopefully, make the best of what we feel we can do with it. :)

The first pic is from about a month ago, the second from yesterday, and the last 2 from today...all from those little "fun size" candies in the office candy jar...!!! :hilarious:

Outlet shopping for their candy? In Southern Wisconsin near where my son first attended college there was a jelly belly reject store. Decades ago when I worked in downtown Chicago the had reject Fannie May Chocolates. Both yummy, just ugly.

Me I am sitting here eating a Fannie May hand poured chocolate bar, about 1/2" thick, premium milk chocolate with several almonds. It is about 2 inches across and 4 inches long. I will eat it all. Myself. Now. :hungry:

Saw it once. Enough for a lifetime. Beyond depressing. I'd be going for Good Morning Vietnam instead.

Yep, Good Morning Vietnam definitely had lighter moments. ;)

I will always watch Saving Private Ryan, and certain other similar movies, because it lets me never forget about the sacrifices so many made for our freedom.
Not a cut on you, or anyone else who doesn't want to watch it (it is definitely brutal). It is an important movie for me to help keep my perspective in focus and it helps to keep me humble and grateful. Sooo many people have given so much for our freedoms...men, women, black, white, brown, etc., etc., etc.
You get the idea. ;)

Um . . . so many things to comment on here . . . :in pain: But the one that wins the prize is someone volunteering you and hubs for "toilet duty" ??. That's a new one . . . Now, granted I haven't been to any sort of big relative get-together for probably 18 years at this point (and I don't miss those . . . one of the benefits of rellies spread out all over the country). But, even back then, the host or hostess never asked, or delegated, anyone to toilet duty. I'll just leave it at that. If I were you, I'd at least guzzle a lot of beer this weekend . . .

I just read my DD @ajrwdwgirl toilet post. Wonder if her inlaw family is related to my Inlaw family. We don't do gatherings anymore. Depending on who it is maybe a wedding. So done with all that. My one SIL on that side of the family is mean, a (w)itch, bossy and delegates everything 'cause she always deemed herself more of a hostess than a worker bee. Witchy lady would even instruct others over the years to Go Change His/Her Diaper. She had 3 kids and mostly the last 3 born unto that Inlaw side. Trust me she did figure out I never followed her Diaper orders. And they were orders she barked out about everything, fix his plate, load the dishwasher, pick that up, he's going to spill that...Crazy lady they were her kids. I took care of my own.
