I'd rather have the few days here and there because then I wouldn't have to keep the kids occupied for 6 weeks. I don't know how parents in the US do it for 3 months!! 6 weeks and I'm ready to send them packing! Of course all our activities get suspended for the summer..there's no more chess club or musical lessons, no more soccer or choir...so the kids are home all day every day and bored and they want ME to find something "fun" for them to do since I won't let them play on the computer or watch tv all day every day. The worst is that we don't usually get much nice weather here...it rains most of the time, so you can't always send them outside to play.
They don't have camps there, or swim clubs, tennis clubs and such?

I would love to cut the cord. My kids only seem to watch on demand now. The big thing is my dh needs his sports like the Golf Channel. We already have Netflix too. How do you get Hulu? Through your tv or do you have an Apple tv or something else? Where will you strream CBS from?

We can't get rid of cable either, my hubs likes his sports too. Although during hockey season I need it to watch my team.

Just wait for it someday...I had my son in the car with me, I was driving and he kept point to things, noting cars coming to me...kept scaring the crud out of me.
He so is Not use to being a passenger anymore.
I'm already getting there. I don't let my friends drive me. I drove the entire time in San Diego, even though we were both drivers (no fee in CA). My one friend offers to drive a lot, and I'm always like, "Nope!" Although, she drives like an old lady and once got a ticket for driving up a one way street, so, ya know, I've got my reasons.

We have so -called Smart TV's so I am wondering if we would even need something like an Apple tv or roku. We actually have Sling and Hulu available on our TV's. I never thought about cutting cable until recently. We bundle our TV, internet, and phone. Our bill is just off the wall and dh and I don't really watch much TV anymore. We have shows DVR'd from 6 months ago that we have yet to watch. Thinking I could save at least $150 a month. I tried to go to Xfinity which is our cable company and see what just internet and phone will cost and the website won't give me a number. I hate calling. How do you get your internet and tv? From your cable company?
You don't need to do anything else with a smart tv. Internet and land line are cable. I don't regret cutting them off at the knees so to speak.

I knew when it was my time to give up driving. I'm so glad I did. I didn't want to kill anyone else, or myself. My eyesight is not very good. And I see with only one eye, and have tunnel vision, along with macular degeneration. Getting older can be hard. I'm plowing through, though. Hubby calls me his tough old bird!

CBS has its own streaming service called CBS all access. You can stream live and watch full episodes without commercials. Some shows, namely the new Star Trek: Discovery and The Good Fight), are exclusive to all access.

When I eventually move out, I'll probably do the same thing @figmentfan423 is doing. I only watch cable when Cosby Show or Home Improvement is on. Other than that, I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, probably will get Hulu and CBS all access and be set.

Hubby had to fix my computer yesterday. I got one of those hijacked virus, wanting us to pay the hacker to "get my computer back. Those people should get hard punishment for doing this. My rant for today.
Dont forget to keep the machine up to date. There was a security hole that allowed the virus to be installed by local network (aka computers in your office and/or home). SO you didnt had to do anything, you would get infected just being connected to a network.

My dad had that happen a while back. Got a call at school saying what had happened from my mom. I told her to turn it off and let me handle it. Then when I handled it that night (by running a system restore after rebooting in safe mode), he kept coming in and watching it, and I guided him out by his shoulders, "Come on, it's fine, it'll take a while. Let your daughter handle it." Then he sat in his chair and complained he was bored. But I got the virus off, so...

We have satellite, and my main reason for keeping it, is because I'm a news hound--I watch so many news programs and those aren't accessible on the over-the-air antenna (free TV signals) that we also have. (We got the antenna to try it out about 6 months ago, and see what we'd get, but it's basically limited to our local TV stations. The antenna comes in handy, though, if the satellite goes out, if there's bad weather, for example. At least we can pull in the local channels when that happens.).

As to @MySmallWorldof4 , Xfinity purposely wants people to call--because they have these huge sales pitches that the salespeople try to ram down your throat. Be really careful and savvy when you talk to them, and don't hesitate to say, no, and end the phone call if it doesn't go your way.
