We're finally supposed to get some rain....on the long weekend this weekend when we want to go to the zoo. When I don't have to go anywhere, it's dry as a bone, and as soon as we want some outdoor activity, THAT'S when it decides to rain. I hope you can stay dry!We have had loads of rain this month. Our little home weather station says we received 6.71 inches of rain this month so far. Expected more today and tomorrow. I would gladly send you some rain.
Oh no!! That's crazy! Sounds like someone didn't show up for a shift or something? We just seem to be having bad luck at Disney sit downs. We love the Planetarium. Going back on our anniversary. Blaze pizza was really good too (but really busy). Artist Pallet at Saratoga has been good and reliable as far as food. Fast food has been good too. But, as I said we like pretty standard food. Today at the lunching pad, it was crazy. We stood in line for 20minutes, and were told to go to the next line. We all did. No one ever showed up. The next person came along inside the restaurant and said move back. After another 15 minute wait, we left...I won't be getting my pretzel, this trip.
Tickets are selling at a crazy rate, even with prices higher than ever. They have a ton of sold out hits right now, such as Bette Midler in Hello Dolly, where you can't get in until at least this fall, and unexpected hits like Come From Away and Dear Evan Hansen. SUmmer is always busy with all the tourists in town.@BuddyThomas , how do the financial projections look for N.Y. theater this summer? Just curious if tickets sales spike during the summer tourist months, or if they are higher during the winter months, when people look for indoor entertainment venues.
Sending best wishes. And a speedy recovery.Well, I just got to the airport, and I got a call from an aunt. She said that my grandmother (who is 93 and is taking care of my dog) fell down this morning and might have broken her hip. Any prayers or good feelings would be very much appreciated.
When DD was in her first year of kindergarten (we start at 4 here and do 2 years), her vocabulary test came back with a very low score. I told them, "Well, you are only testing HALF of her vocabulary because you only test Dutch, and she also speaks English." If they had tested both, I'm sure she would have been above average. But, they don't make allowances for bilingual kids. So they enrolled her in this special class of 10 kids who needed extra help with language. Shortly after they did that, there was this article that came out about research of bilingual children. It said that children who are raised in a home with more than one native language start out with a delay in the vocab area when they start school, but they usually catch up quickly and then end up far exceeding their single-language peers. Sure enough, by the end of that school year, she was average on vocabulary and didn't actually qualify for that class anymore, but they had already enrolled her. So normally, if you start with the class, they have to go for the entire 2nd year of kindergarten, but because DD didn't even qualify anymore, they made us a deal that she only had to do a half year, and then if her test scores were average or higher, she could stop with the class. She scored above average and the teacher of the special class was so glad, because she didn't know what to do with DD. She told me DD was head and shoulders above the rest of the class and she could do the hardest work the teacher had faster than the others could do the EASIEST work...she didn't understand why DD was even in the class to begin with because she obviously didn't need it, when there were other kids who might have, but they could only take 10 kids. So she stopped going to that class and she is still off the charts above average in all the language things. She reads at high school level, she scores in the top probably 5% at least, and that's throughout the nation. So that article was bang on. It also said that for some reason, growing up in a bi-lingual household gives some sort of natural protection against dementia, because the part of the brain used for language is stimulated in a particular way with multi-languages, and by turning on that part of the brain, it suppresses things with Dementia or something...Really fascinating. But both my kids do really well in school, and a lot of that could be attributed to speaking 2 languages from birth, according to this study. Whatever it is, I'm glad my kids benefit from it.My personal belief is we underestimate children's abilities in all sorts of ways. From the word No! Following directions from very little, if they are smart enough to disobey they are intelligent enough to listen to parents and teachers.
Problem is everyone has a different opinion on that magical age.
My DS learned to bite after being bitten at his daycare center. For a few days he was testing us, he was only 14 months old. But you could tell there was thought there and he grasped No! And when he'd take a nip he looked very still and quizzing. I was in the kitchen and he was in his Dads lap and out of the blue there was this blood curdling scream. He had bit his Dad in the shoulder and left teeth marks. Daddy bit him back. I don't know if I was more appalled or stunned. Two of them with bite marks. Neither of them ever bit again. Who says kids don't have a quick learning curve.
Me, with all my years watching other peoples children as statistics, I have never seen anything more true that the earlier the better is learning dual languages. Whatever happens in those little brains of theirs they seem to absorb multiple languages and are able with ease to differentiate what is being spoken at that moment. Impressive.
My kids actually love the new Muppet movies. The two younger ones will spontaneously sing songs from them. They loved the Mobile Muppet Science Lab in Epcot last week.I think the Muppets are on the way out. The show needs a huge upgrade. I could be wrong because Disney just built the rat place. But your and mine generation knows the Muppets but the last half of my generation and the next - doesn't.
It seems like it rains here every Friday and Saturday. Has been going on since April. Just odd. Partly sunny now. At least I won't have to worry about watering plants. We're finally supposed to get some rain....on the long weekend this weekend when we want to go to the zoo. When I don't have to go anywhere, it's dry as a bone, and as soon as we want some outdoor activity, THAT'S when it decides to rain. I hope you can stay dry!
Oh my goodness. Sending good wishes for your dear grandmother. I hope she will have a speedy recovery.Well, I just got to the airport, and I got a call from an aunt. She said that my grandmother (who is 93 and is taking care of my dog) fell down this morning and might have broken her hip. Any prayers or good feelings would be very much appreciated.
My dd does not have a phone, blackberry, ipod, or a laptop. She does have a tablet, not an ipad, and she bought the tablet herself. She also has facebook, but doesn't use it...she's not allowed to have friends she doesn't know and we have to approve them. So she has like...3 school friends and us. It was just so that she could play a couple of games on FB like Cafe World. Today, everyone in her grade had to write an essay about whether cell phones should be allowed at camp in 6th grade...she said no.
Oh no!! Does she live alone? Will this affect your trip? Prayers and pixie dust!!Well, I just got to the airport, and I got a call from an aunt. Squirrel. I always put food first -- and a squirrel is agile, very fast, and can scoop up all kinds of good food from the unsuspecting park guests!!
Yummy. The chocolate cake on the bottom is one of my favorites.I'm tired, so a few pictures today. Note the beef taco plate. Yummy?

awesome! take lots of photos!!Leaving for the airport to start my Alaskan Adventure in 25 minutes!!!
First flight should be no problem (just about 5 hours long, which is the longest flight for me in about a decade). Flight #2, however, is overbooked, so we'll see how that goes.
Not sure if there will be non snack food served,on the first flight (I know it depends on the length of the trip), so I'll need to find something at the airport to bring. As for entertainment, I have 2 books (A Man Called Ove and 1984), 2 coloring books (Harry Potter and Buffy), colored pencils, and a phone filled with music.
I'm so excited!
That image is fake. Blackberries are non existent now.. and they were almost exclusively for corporate users
Thank you! That coworker said to me a while back that she was looking for another job (obviously she hadn't found one yet) and I never said a word to anyone there. Nor that she has a friend who works on the first floor and they'll come up and chat for 10-20 minutes every now and then (which, fyi, it was okay for her to have a conversation, but she would get annoyed if I was having one).@StarWarsGirl , that coworker sounds like a piece of work. First of all, a coworker that rats out a fellow coworker is a jerk. In the workplace, that will create a wall of enemies against the perpetrator. There are certain unwritten rules in an office, and she crossed the line. The only time I could justify her action would be if a coworker was engaging in illegal behavior such as stealing, or if the person was being obnoxious and unprofessional to customers, or colleagues.
You're smart to copy your own boss, on any communications you have with this coworker. I think it's great that the boss gave you a separate space away from her. My hunch is that this may not be the first time this coworker has had "issues" with others in the company.
